My 7yr old daughter Jaiya wants one but I think she is still too young so we battle each other on this issue :(.

In my opinion, no. If you feel the need, then a basic phone, not a smartphone, may be of use.
I say no but I can understand why she's keen on me letting her have one, she goes out with friends quite a bit plus sometimes they arrange sleepovers whilst at school so if she has a mobile then she can text me to let me know instead of me picking her up and finding out that they've arranged a sleepover.
