also... should insterting a tampon be painful since i am a virgin? i felt no pain whats so ever while inserting it, but it felt very uncomfortable. since i felt no pain does that mean my hymen is broken? how can i tell if my hymen is broken.
the pain indicates it wasn't inserted deep enough into the vaginal canal.
You can't loose your virginity with a tampon! you need penatrative vaginal sex!
The hymen has very little nerve endings in it, most people don't even feel it rupture. Most pain is probably from the vaginal muscle walls.

Don't worry darling, as was said, it probably wasn't inserted deep enough. If you've just started using tampons, don't worry, they take a bit to get used to. In some ways, practice does makes perfect.
okay so i have used tampons for 3 years now. does that mean i broke my hymen?
That is not true saisfaire.
You must stop telling these girls that they are no longer a virgin if they use a tampon.
Maybe you should consider taking a break from this forum until you have researched this issue a bit further.
Time after time i see you say the same thing. It is not so.

thank you, bbfeet9, for setting saisfaire straight. Using a tampon is not sex, and many tampon users are virgins. And what gives saisfaire any authority to advise a young girl not experience any sexual arousal while exploring her own vagina? How archaic! Young girls can and should explore their bodies freely, and learn what feels good and what doesn't. Enjoying masturbation is no more wrong than enjoying eating a good, juicy apple. Young girls can read My Body My Self for more information about developing a healthy body image, and to remember always to read advice with intelligent skepticism.
i agree with saisfaire
I suppose that you can agree with saisfaire all you like, but the fact of the matter is that virginity is tied to actual coitus, where as an intact hymen nowadays is a pretty poor indicator of someone's actual virginity. I do respect cultural differences, but I disagree that it's an indicator that someone is not a virgin.
Sais whatevr scared me I'm only 13 and I just started using tampons because of sports and I couldn't get it all the way in and it hurt so idk what I was doing but I came here to see and I thought I had lost my virginity I was about to freak out
Listen hon, pay no attention to anyone who tells you that you will loose your virginity to a tampon. I'm sure that being 13 you pretty much know whats up in the sex department. Because you are athletic, you may break your hymen yourself with out even knowing it, again you are still a virgin should this happen.
If inserting a tampon is painful for you, you may have the wrong size to begin with. Try the juniors as they are narrower. You should be relaxed while your inserting also. Either sit on the toilet, legs spread or stand with your legs spread. I always found it easier if i stood up and bent over at the waist. If it goes in crooked it will pinch, so position the tip of the tampon just inside your vagina then use the applicator to gently push the rest of it in. It should feel comfortable enough to where you don't even feel it and the only thing that you should see is the string hanging out.
So my dear, you are still a virgin, don't freak about that at all.
There are many religious beliefs that will tell you otherwise but this is what THEY believe and they are entitled to that for sure, but medically, it's not true.

Yeah, I agree with bbfeet. Just because someone says you lost your virginity doesn't mean anything. The point is that virginity is this old notion that someone had to not have sex, but nowadays kids are having anal sex but claiming virginity. I'm sorry, but vaginal penetration is not the (only) way you can lose your virginity. It's about human contact, so it isn't like you lose it to a tampon or even a vibrator. Just realize that it's not really something any adults actually keep track of (trust me on that one) so don't worry about it. NO one is going to judge you here. DOes that help?
its tru i asked my doctor n she said that u are indeed not a virgin if you insert a tampon
This is not true. No doctor I know of on this planet would say something like that. There is no medical definition of being a virgin anyway. Where is your source?
Bbfeet 9 has cleared up the tampon issue perfectly.
But heres just some simple straight forward answers for anyone wondering about Hymens and Virginity.
(yes I copied from another of my posts!)
Okay, quick lesson:
Virginity
You are a virgin until you engage in the act of sex.
This means a penis entering your vagina.
After a penis has entered your vagina, even for a moment, you have offically lost your virginity.
Fingers, toys, oral sex and tampons all have no effect on your virginity.
Hymen
The hymen is a piece of skin on the inside of the vagina.
Your hymen can be broken in many ways - and is a natural thing to happen.
It can break:
-during sex
-aerobics
-physical activity
-self pleasure or other sexual acts that involve "inserting" anything
-the use of tampons
-horseriding
You do not need a hymen to be a virgin.
Having a hymen can make sex more uncomfortable for the first time as it will tear and may bleed (this is perfectly normal and not someting to worry about). If you do not experience this then that doesn't mean you are not a virgin, just just means that you have likely already broken it. Most people seem to expect this to happen and look for this if they are with a "virgin", this is why your guys are getting confused, let them read this post as it may help them realise!
If you have not had sex then you are a virgin.
If you do not have a hymen and have not had sex, then you are still a virgin.
Hope that makes things clearer.

That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard. Girls, pretend this post doesn't exist, i left it here because it's funny actually
