I'm so glad I found this site. I thought I was losing my mind until now. I had a cortisone injection about 14 years ago with no ill affects that I can remember. I just had a second injection about 10 days ago for plantar fasciitis and have been very sick since. The first day no issues other than the pain from the injection. I stayed off of my feet as directed by my podiatrist. On Sunday, 3 days after the injection, I started with stomach pain, nausea, extreme tiredness and just general feeling of not being well. I spent most of the day either in bed sleeping or in the bathroom with an upset stomach. By Tuesday I was feeling much worse with severe stomach pain, tiredness, anxiety, some chest pain, irregular heart rate, hot flashes. I called my PCP and she got me in right away. At first I didn't make the connection with the cortisone shot. She initially thought I was having an attack of diverticulitis (which I have never had before). She sent me on my way with an antiobiotic. On Thursday I was considerably worse. The stomach pain and weird feeling in my chest was still there along with being physically exhausted and just the all over feeling of something is not right. I called my PCP again and she got me in immediately. She ordered blood tests and a CT scan of my abdomen to check for other issues. Of course, nothing showed up on any of the tests. Blood work was normal, no signs of infection or anything. The CT scan was "unremarkable" and showed nothing. I literally sat in the hospital waiting room and cried. I told my husband something is definitely wrong with me. It was on the way home that I thought of the cortisone injection and wondered if it could be the cause. Of course the doctor says no, that cortisone injections should have no adverse side effects. It's now Sunday and the stomach pain is still there. I still have the chest pain and tiredness although it is not as intense as it was. Instead of feeling like I've been hit by a train I feel like I've been hit by a small SUV. %-) My appetite is still not where it was prior to the injection. I'm hoping that this will not last much longer. I have decided that from now on I will just live with the pain. No more cortisone injections for me.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE CRAMPS IN MY LEGS AND MY THIGHS AND HIPS AND ALL OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE CORTISONE SHOT AND YOUR POST HAS CONFIRMED THAT.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SUFFER WITH THIS AND WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS OUT OF MY SYSTEM QUICKLY?
water water water... the more I drink the better iv been feeling. I wake up at 2 for some unknown reason and cant get back to sleep also have upset stomach. I will never have an injection again!! I will just get a massage he took the pain away for the same amout of time and less money!!
How are u feeling these days? I could really use someone to talk to who knows what i am going through. The vision problems really are scary....
I have just found this link and now know that the reason I am having trouble typeing this is the cortisone shot I had 6 days ago.My eye sight started playing up last night and I though I was just tired I started getting night sweats about a day after the shot and have been so depressed and anxious and couldnt figure why now knowing its the shot and I did this I just sat and cryed for about an hour and just want to know how the hell do I get it out of my system ! ! Oh am also extreamly bloated and uncomfortable and the thought of the weight gain so many people speak of just makes me want to cry a whole lot more and not to mention the fact that no one has come back with their story of recovery isnt helping.

I wish someone who when through these side effects would return to the forum and let us know how long they lasted.
I went in about 2 and a half weeks ago and had 2 cortisone shots into Keloid scars. I felt a little anxious the first day but one thing I did notice right away was the feeling to my face when it was freezing cold. I did feel pain in one of the injection sites for the first day or so, the scars only started to go down in size when the peak of my symptoms were happening. It was about a week after the shots that I started to get major anxiety attacks through the day as well as cycles of lightheaded feelings. The feeling is really hard to describe... but as I would sit at my computer I would feel this wave come over me, I would get hot and sweaty and then my heart would race. The mood swings have been terrible and the past week has been filled with me getting set off by stupid little things. My blood pressure went through the roof this week and fluctuates rapidly.. I have had to start taking BP pills. I have had vision issues, at times thinking my prescription glasses must need to be updated. I have always been really regular with my menstrual cycle but this time I started spotting 10 days early, spotted for 3 or 4 days and have now stopped spotting. I feel like some of the things are slowly starting to get better. I don't feel as anxious but still get waves of anxiety a few times a day (as apposed to 20 or so times at the peak of this). I am moody but seem to be getting a bit better. The worst for me is I still feel unsteady and lightheaded. Today my spouse walked up to me to give me a kiss and as I closed my eyes, I lost my balance and fell forward.. I was able to catch myself, but this unsteadiness and lightheaded feeling has not gone away. I am still getting the hot flashes but they are further apart than they were before.
Anyone who has gone through these things, could you please visit again and tell me how long it lasted. I read through so many posts and have yet to find someone who came back to talk about how long the side effects lasted.
Thanks!

I deal with migraines so my neurologist decided to give me a prednisone regimen. When that didn't work she gave me trigger point injections with steroids from above my eyes, all over my head ( even my temples), and all down my neck. Yes, it did get rid of the headache but I went into a deep depression, crying because I didn't know what was happening to me. I had anxiety, didn't have any interest in my normal activities, couldn't sleep without waking up in the am hours and know am dealing with this foggy out of body feeling at times. It has been almost a month and I still don't feel like myself. I am not depressed person so this is driving me crazy. I pray a lot and I try to exercise to help with the anxiety. I just want to feel normal!!!!
