Hi, good people. I am trying to make my brother to stop smoking. He doesn’t want to. He even told me last night that leaving smoking could lead to some side effects. I really don’t know what he talks about. Do these side effects really exist? Can anyone tell me something more about them?

Hi, you can read through the post on here called "Quit smoking a year ago - sick ever since!" There are side effects to quitting - but most are short term and definately not as serious as the long term effects of continuing to smoke (like cancer, emphysema, ect.). And they're not really caused by quitting, they are actually a result of the body healing and cleansing itself from the damages done while smoking. I myself gave it up about 8 months ago and still have some issues with my sinuses clearing up, but I will never go back to smoking! Unfortunately you can't force someone to quit, but I've heard alot of good things about the book "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr". I've never read it myself, but I did buy it for my father in hopes of convincing him, he hasn't read it yet though... maybe you'll have better luck with you brother! Hope this helps!

Side effects of the quit: short tempered, moods flucuating, feeling like going crazy, weight gain
Being quit: blood pressure lower, palse lowered, feel better, more self-confident, smell better, have the nose of a bloodhound, colds not as devastating, no chest pains, less SOB...mid is more clear
