I have R.A. ,have been taking methotrexate for 2 years, problem with my blood counts forced my dr to take me off methotrexate, found out that enbrel does not work well without methotrexate, anybody had the same experience?
Metho is sort of a preparation to maximize effect of enbrel
most dr's i know think methrotrexate is very strong and frown when i mention i was taking it. However, i took it once and 5 days later was getting pains in my head as if i was electrocuted, So I stopped taking it immediately. I went to a new Dr yesterday who wants me on embrel. I have to think about it. Well good luck to you with whatever you decide.
did your wife gain weght on the two drug as I will be starting enbrel along with methotrexate...the pain is so bad and I'm reading comments but I am 53 and am scared of the gain!
I have been living with RA for 13 years , and have been taking enbrel and methotrexate for about 6 months now. I have had no serious side effects, no weight gain, and only some stomache discomfort when I consume alcohol, or highly acidic foods on occasion. I gained too much weight on prednisone, and tried other treatments until they got me on metho and enbrel, and I have never felt happier to be able to move around, and drive. I must say that most of the nausea goes away from ingesting some cannabis. That and exercising daily is key!! If people just had a little kind in their life they could ease the effects of the harder drugs we take. Methotrexate IS a form of chemotherapy.
I am currently awaiting a phone call from my psych. nurse regarding Enbrel, weight loss and worsening depression and bipolar disorder symptoms. I began Enbrel Oct. 28, 2012, participating in a drug study through my rheumatologist's associates. The one thing I keep hearing is that I look "drawn" and that I've lost weight. I was within my BMI before beginning the study, though I can easily fluctuate up and down 10 pounds. Sadly, last night I was berated by a friend who thinks I'm either on street drugs or anorectic. Admittedly, these are things I've done in the past. I ca also taking hydrocodone as directed for the pain, which hasn't gone completely away but has been greatly reduced. I just don't know.
I just noticed these posts go back quite awhile. Is there anyone out there who has anything they can tell me about their experiences? Thanks!
I have rheumatoid arthritis as well, and I am currently on both methotrexate and enbrel and i have been for close to a year now. I haven't had any serious side effects although I do prefer the methotrexate over the enbrel it doesnt come with as much pain. i am on the verge of being taken off methotrexate because enbrel is more effective.

Hello,
i have taken my second injection of Enbrel this morning. Within 12 hours I am full of cold. Is this a coincidence or side effect? last week within 24 hours IOC injecting I had a sore throat and chesty cough. I can put up with them if they are side effects but I just wondered if anyone else had side effects so soon after injecting. I also take 17.5 mg of Methotrexate weekly and NSAIDs as I need them.
thanks :)
Sorry, that should have said 'of' not 'IOC' (???). :)
with enbrel you can have these problems, i have the same issue but its mostly transferred from other people. With enbrel you are more likely to get colds and sore throats due to lowering of your ability to fight infections. best solution is to try and stay away from such people for first 2 days of injecting enbrel.
i was diagnosed in 2005 by an RA specialist, then in 2009 taken off all meds (methotrexate &arava) by another RA specialist saying I didnt have RA. Now, it is 2013 and my hand/ fingers are stuck (swan neck aka Trigger finger) n my feet hurt to stand. Saw another RA and she put me on Embril n Metho because the FDA doesnt approve doing the Arava n Metho (which worked PERFECT) i could work my 12 hour shift and not hurt. Currently i've been on Embril for 2 months and just got a script for Metho wish me luck. Oh! but found out I had Gout which is rare to have gout n RA n a woman, but of course AGAIN I'm the Lucky one to have it......Looong story short :-) check ur Uric acid since its most comman in men (just an idea) I know u dont want to take anymore pills, LORD knows I DONT, but its something to look into......Good Luck
i've been diagnosed w/RA n fibromyalga , I was given cymbalta n amatriptaline small doses for pain and they work alot better than the Tramadol I was taking for pain. Hope this helps. Good Luck
I am a full-time student , when i get home after class , which is about 3 or 4 ish i cant get motivated just feel like doing nothing. I been on enbrell for a 2 years and i think it has something to do with me feeling tired.
I've been on enbrel for at least five years- I have bad psoriatic arthritis- it works very well- and I've had ZERO side effects. Im 58 years of age- wo enbrel, I'd be a total basket case- pain, fatigue. enbrel's been a life saver, literally, at least for me- way better than metho.
