I gave birth to a son (with my first husband) that was diagnosed with Sirenomelia 6 years ago. I have now a soon to be 4 year old (with my 2nd husband) that they are possiblely saying that is being diagnosed with Norres's disease. I was wondering is it me that is causing all of these birth defects in my children. I also have a 2 year old that is "normal". I understand that the Norres's disease has a x-related cromosome problem. I was just wondering is it me or just another "flook of nature" as they tell me. Any information would help me, more just give me piece of mind of trying to find out why my children are they way they are. I just cant accept that I have had 2 children with a "flook of nature". I hope someone can help me. ANY information would help me tremendously! Please email me at _[removed]_ with any info.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know little about sirenomelia, because a good friend of mine had this terrible experience with her first pregnancy. This was really terrible news when I heard that her unborn baby has abnormal body and organ structure. The doctors couldn't know what will happen in last two months, but after some test end examinations during the 7th month they diagnosed sirenomelia disorder. I never heard before about this, but it happens when you don't expect it.

However, 2 yrs later she got a 100% healthy daughter!!! As you said you have a 100% healthy boy...

Sirenomelia is very rare, I think there are no more then 100k known births world wide. There are a lot of things that could cause birth defects.

Inherited or genetic factors; things in the environment, such as smoking or drinking alcohol or not getting enough folic acid; and a woman's illness during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Most birth defects happen in the first 3 months of pregnancy, when the organs of the baby are forming. This is the most important stage of development.

I never heard for this Norres's disease?? Maybe Norris disease?

Anyway, I'm not a doctor, but I think there should be a lot of test which could verify your genetics, like DNA analyzes or similar ...

I would like I could help you but I'm really not an expert in that area. I'm so sorry for your lost and hope that diagnosis for your second child is wrong.

God bless you and your family!
