Hi. I just smoked weed around 3 am this morning. I am not a usual smoker. I woke up at about 10 am and went to the bathroom and afterwards it feels like I have a UTI. Why would I experience this after smoking weed and will it go away?

I've smoked nearly everyday for a good year and a couple of weeks ago got a UTI, I left it hoping it would clear up on its own. After about a week and a half I got so fed up and went to the doctors to get anti biotics, I decided to stopped smoking weed as I was going to take the anti biotics but never got round to taking them as it completely cleared up after I stopped smoking weed. I don't think it affects how anti biotics work but rather probably just screws up your body..

Thank you. I am also an RN and have mixed connective tissue diseas that had stolen my quality of life. That is until I began using edlible marijuana. I suffer from chronic UTIs and found myself here looking to see what others have been experiencing. People are too quick to write of THC and refer to it as weed. no one should be made to feel as second class just because they have been using a less accepted drug therapy. I just wanted to say thanks for speaking up. I think I will take your advise and stop for a week or so to see if that clears up my UTI.

Cranberry juice is acidic. No coffee, no alcohol, no sugar (it's very acid forming and also kills white blood cells). Drink lots of water, and try cayenne pepper. Not kidding it has worked really well for me. Dark leafy greens, veggies of all kinds. No dairy.

What strain/form of cannabis were you using? I've been smoking for the pain but haven't found any relief. How do you feel about AZO?

I have been a pot smoker for quite a long time. Recently I'd been diagnosed with uti and took antibiotics as prescribed and stopped smoking it for 5-6 days and it even went away in my urine analysis. The very next week I got back to smoking pot and cigrattes and it came back again. I read somewhere on internet that weed has no relation in causing uti but the cigrattes might be the cause.
I again took antibiotics as prescribed and stopped smoking cigg but continued on weed and the infection is far from gone and the value of pus cells increased in my latest report. Now I'm getting stacked up injections in my ass twice a day for the cure.
Honestly, I'm gonna stop smoking this time until it's completely gone and don't think so weed helps in uti, only makes the condition worse. I even lost 1-1.5 kilos weight in this whole period.
I need one advise, I have been drinking milk to keep up my weight 2-3 times a day. Is milk good in uti? And don't smoke mj!

There has been no conclusive or peer reviewed research done that cannabis causes UTIs or prevents the healing process. Since it dehydrates you, that could be a cause. Just make sure to drink lots and lots of water next time you smoke.

Of course, everyone is different. For example, alcohol gives me UTIs and severely damaged my kidneys. Even if I have just a couple of sips. So it's important to listen to your own body

And I hope I can clear up some misconceptions. Some people need cannibis for medical reasons. I have several chronic pain disorders that I have gone to specialists for my whole life, only to be told "there's nothing we can do," endometriosis being one of them. I throw up pain killers. Cannabis is the only thing that elevates pain and allows me to complete daily tasks. Otherwise, I would be in so much pain I couldn't walk half the time. So it's important to be sympathetic, because you never know what someone's reasons may be for smoking.

For the OP's question, I found that if I start to get uti symptoms, I take uva ursi and goldenseal for a week. They are natural antibiotics, so you should still be careful. I try to save them for emergencies so I don't build an immunity. But they are a good alternative to prescription antibiotics. So far this has worked for a year.

Marshmallow root is the real life saver though. It helps a lot with flushing it out, like d-mannose and cranberries are supposed to do. I take it everyday (and have for a year) because it also helps as a preventative, and has no side effects. It is a great symptom reliever too, and seems to work within 30 minutes for me.

I hope this helps. This is all just my personal experience, and in the end your body may be different so just do what works for you.

No..it's because Weed causes people to have a herxheimer reaction...it's killing the infection and your body is breaking it down...so your body feels worse after.
Try a castor oil pack...or warm...not hot epsom salt bath...then smoke...the effects will be less.
I have an auto immune disease....and you might want to get checked for Candida. ...that is90% of the cause of all UTI'S..AND BLADDER INFECTIONS.
