Any smoking before or after the surgery is dagerous. The smoke consitricts the blood vessels making the healing go slower and it can lead to heart damage.
Smoking would also interfere with anesthesia leading to a higher occurrence of EKG abnormalities again associated with restricted blood flow to the heart.
