You could also have either Herpangina, or Gingivostomatits both are virus and not helped with antibiotics. Use hydrogen peroxide and or salt water mouth rise twice a day. Try and rest, and let your bodies own defenses win this one!

There must be something going round for everyone to be getting it around this time.

It started off with a lump on my lip which has thus turned into a canker sore/coldsore ... i treated it with Zovirax and my gums started swelling, but I presumed it was the Zovirax as it tells you not to use it in the mouth but when the sore is on the inside of your lip, you can't really help it.

Anyway, I haven't used the Zovirax in 5 days now but my gums are proceeding to swell, the lymph nodes under my jaw are like golf balls, I look like a frog haha.

I'm suffering from severe halitosis and my breath never smells so when I can feel it it's set me on a paranoia trip.

My tongue is covered in blisters. My throat was sore but not anymore.

Also, as aforementioned in this topic, I have a wisdom tooth coming through. I've kind of linked it to that too.

I went to the hospital, who gave me Clarithromicin, took a swab and blood tests but I haven't heard anything yet.

The canker sore/coldsore started developing 9 days ago, my gums have been swollen for 6 days and my lymph nodes for about 5 days.

I haven't yet been to the doctor or dentist.

Have people seen the symptoms just vanishing or have you been getting it treated? If so, what by?

Anadin Extra and Ibuprofen seem to help with the pain. As well as a cheeky Diazepam before bed :-).

It's still an issue, even now. I developed it last Friday. It wasn't this bad though. Started with dizziness, headache, fever, body aches, and a sore throat. Two days ago, my mouth started hurting. I had my Dad take a look, and he told me he saw some white things in my mouth, and my tongue is white. My mouth is in constant pain, and I really can't eat much other than soup or noodles. Even those are uncomfortable.

It's Wednesday now, five days later. The pain started three days ago.

Has anyone figured out what this is? I woke up on my birthday - yesterday - with the same problem. It started out with my upper right gums hurting and now it is on the front of my teeth - tops and bottoms. I have a swollen gland on the right side of my jaw as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well it seems I'm not having too much trouble with this SO far. Last Monday I started having problems such as exhaustion, headache, throat pain and of course gum swelling. On Wednesday I go see the Doctor and he gives me some antibiotics for the throat infection and so far it's been working great to get rid of the throat pains and my headaches are gone too. But now my gums are still swelled and though I'm finding it easier to drink and eat the pain in my mouth is sometimes unbearable. I'm going to wait another week and see what happens. Hopefully it gets better with time. Still this worries and annoys me.

Hey everyone, we're all in the same boat. I woke up Saturday with a sore throat and fever. I just took motrin for it, and continued through Sunday. I decided today, Monday, to go to the doctor. My gums are a little swollen and I have a few canker sores. My doctor said I had sores in my throat, too. She said it was a throat infection and gave me antibiotics. Guess we'll see what happens. I'm gargling/rinsing my mouth with salt water, and it burns, so I guess it's doing it's job. Also, pushing the fluids and getting rest. Hopefully this will turn out well.

Well I have the same problem... I really wish I could figure out an answer. You see, I'm a college student, and last saturday I woke up with swollen lymph nodes and a major sore throat... I figured, "ok its a cold whatever, I get through this." The next morning I woke up with canker sores on the inside of my bottom lip on the right side, and when I looked at my throat in the mirror I saw white stuff on it. At the same time I noticed that my inner gums on my bottom two front teeth were very sensitive and swollen. Me being the ignorant college student that I am, I ignored that. However, I went to my welleness center and they tested me for strep and mono. both came out negative. They did put me on penicillin and sent me on my way. Before i took any of the meds I took like a 5hr. nap, when I woke up not only were my lower gums swollen, but now my ENTIRE upper gums were swollen. I also have a moller growing in and I have a feeling the gums around it are swollen, so it hurts like crazy. I have a fever that comes and goes, it makes me break out in a sweat perfusely. I get light-headed, and the chills. I can't eat at all. I'm a college student, do you know how much I want pizza?!?!? I've been gargling saltwater, it feels like it helps sometimes. And just recently my mouth has been watering and drooling like crazy, I can't swallow it enough. It keeps coming and coming. I've been in pure pain these past 5-6 days. This stuff is driving me nuts, there's gotta be a way to cure this!!! I can't take it anymore!!!

It sonds to me like you could have had a resurgence of herpes. Not the genital time, but the oral kind, it sounds like. Do you think that you could have that investigated? I think you should definitely see a doctor about it.

Red swollen gums, sores, swollen glands and a fever are signs of an initial herpes outbreak. Antibiotics won't make it worse, but you might need antiviral meds. Good Luck

I am not a doctor so I am not 100% but canker sores are not herpes that's cold sores they are different.
" Canker sores are small white swellings or sores surrounded by an area of redness. While canker sores are not contagious, they are often confused with cold sores, which are caused by the contagious herpes virus. It may help to remember that canker sores occur inside the mouth, while cold sores usually occur outside the mouth. Canker sores can recur, and can be minor (small), major (larger) or herpetiform (multiple, in groups or clusters).
Canker sores are common and often recur. Although the exact cause is uncertain, some experts believe that immune system problems, bacteria or viruses may be involved. Factors such as stress, trauma, allergies, cigarette smoking, iron or other vitamin deficiencies, and heredity may also make one susceptible. "
So that confuses me because every web site I go to say the same thing "canker sores can be confused with cold sores" (cold sores are herpes1)? but they are not.
I have these symptoms too and I have never had cold sores ever but I have had canker sores which I usually get when I bit my lip when I have chapped lips.
I got a canker sore on my lip 3 days ago and then last night I got a fever and a mild sore throat. My fever has come and gone all day and my tongue just developed 2 new canker sores. My throat doesn't hurt that bad and I can still eat and drink no problem. I have a headache and swollen gums too.
I was thinking this was just from a vitamin deficiency because I haven't been eating well. Supposedly if you take vit B12 and iron pills and just boost up your immune system they should go away? I started taking oil of oregano (kills viruses) and bee pollen (high in B vits) today. Hopefully this helps. Antibiotics are awful they kill the good bacteria in your body I would stay away from those if you absolutely can.

Hi,

I have the same sore throat, cold sores on the tongue and my guns are swelling over my molars in on the bottom left and right of my
mouth. As well as a fever over 103 and cold chills her and there.

My doctor told me just a fever and strep, My mom had strep some weeks ago and she told me she had the same thing.

My doctor prescribed "Penicillin 300mg" to take 2, 4 times a day the first day and then 1, 4 times a day.

Soon after my tongue began swelling up and making it hard to breath and my mom said that It could be a reaction from the penicillin.

This is my forth day and it's feeling a little better except for the growing amount of cold sores on my tongue.

I have also not taken any penicillin today until I speak with my doctor again in 2 hours.

My throat is feeling a little better and my gums don't hurt to bad but I have been taking 2 "Acetaminophen 500mg" to relieve my
fever and pain and I have also been drinking plenty of herbal teas and liquid soups.

Everyone Get better,

I have been having the same problem for two months now with swollen tongue and swelling inside of my lower lip, also very dry mouth. I have seen two doctors without any success also went to my dentist. He basically said don't put anything on it (I was using oragel for the discomfort) and use baking powder instead of toothpaste. No help at all. Any solutions? I don't want to go to another doctor, just want it to go away.

I have the same symptoms and everyone ive talked to has told me its strep, but im starting to think otherwise. This is my 6th day like this, but only the past four have been the worst. Yesturday i went to the doctor and she gave me the quickest examination ive ever seen in my life, she looked in my ears and up my nose and then as soon as she saw down my throat she walked back over to her little station put a ton of hand santitizer on and then she told me to go, but she did perscribe to me some predisone, amoxicillin+clavulanate potassium, and some lidocaine for the pain. I take the pills twice a day and i fell a little better today. Im supposed to use the lidocaine every two hours as needed but i cant stand it everytime i put it in my mouth i feel like im goin to vomit, and that hurts worse then just dealing with the pain, and i am also supposed to rinse 3 - 4 times a day with listerine oh my does it BURN, but i now i need to keep my mouth clean. I have been drinking mostly water, milk, and the occaional ginger ale/7-up/sprite to give me a lil sugar now and again, but the only thing ive been able to handle in my mouth food wise is soup and a lil bit of bread. I cant handle this anymore. I also live with my boyfriend and i am worried for him cuz i dont want him to suffer as i did when and if i ever get better.
Does anyone know what excatly this is and the quickest route to recovery cuz i cant go to work because i am contagious, or atleast i think i am. Would you take the chance? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
