How can one tell if they have splenomegaly (enlarged spleen)? Is there a pain or more feels like heaviness. Where this pain would be seen? I’ve been told that enlarged spleen is not always felt. I am HIV+, male, 43. Thanks
Well, as I know a mildly enlarged spleen isn't usually felt, however, a significantly enlarged spleen may cause some abdominal discomfort because other organs are being squashed. You were right; splenomegaly feels like fullness or heaviness in the upper left part of the abdomen. In HIV’s + an enlarged spleen is usually an additional disease process going on. You know that the spleen is a large lymph organ which can be enlarged due to HIV. You should ask professional help for this, I can only tell you that immune improvement treatment can sometimes further enlarged lymph nodes, so that usually I wouldn’t be highly concerned about moderate splenomegaly.
