They are adhesions caused by surgery of any type. You have to live with them. You can however, have surgery to remove them but you run the risk of more adhesions.

21 year old female. As far as I can tell there are 2 different "fluttering" going on in the post. I assume that surgery is the cause of mine after reading this. I had gallbladder surgery a little over a year ago.  About a 4 1/2 incision from about 2in below my breast in the center going down my rib cage on the inner left.  My "fluttering" however just started getting noticeable and constant. It hasn't really stopped in 3 days. Today I noticed a lump (1 1/2 inch diameter) about an inch below the start of the incision in the middle of my chest. My uneducated guess is that I herniated which is causing the muscle spasms.

I have one child, 5 years old, and I started with the same spasms a few weeks, maybe even months ago.  I had a c-section and a subsequent tummy tuck.  It's curious that quite a few have stated lower left area, as that's where my spasm/twitching occurs.  Same thing her...reminicent of little kicks when I was carrying my baby, but I know I'm not pregnant.  Hoping to find some answers, and in the same boat, don't want to go to the doctor and sound weird.  I guess I can bring in some of the responses in this forum as evidence that I'm not?  Also, if it's an alien...I wonder if we would be spared since we carried them? LOL!!!

I have had the flutter you describe for years (occurring the first time about 6 months after having my second child). My doctor said it's common, and nothing to worry about--just a twitch--but ordered an ultrasound for me just to put my mind at ease. It showed nothing, and because it's never been painful, I've decided to let it go and not worry about it anymore. Aside from that, the "stomach" spasms you mentioned after having weird dreams are something I also experience from time to time, and again not anything to worry about. It's perfectly normal in women who are not sexually active. It's actually a clenching of the uterus in reaction to the dream--your body's way of keeping itself in shape--just like a "wet" dream that young men experience during puberty. Hope this helps.

2 things to make them go away... drink more water (you're probably a little dehydrate) and get a massage (you're probablly stressed!)

It's a muscle spasm, like when your eye twitches when you're tired or haven't drank enough water.

Oh thank God I'm not going insane. I am 31. I have a (almost) 5 year old and a (almost) 4 year old. I had a tubal after the delivery of my second child. I have had regular periods. For the past two to three months I keep having a fluttering sensation on the upper left side of my abdomen. It feels the same as when I was pregnant and the baby would kick. My husband even felt it today. It's totally freaking me out.

Yes you should get checked for a uterine fibroids and it could just be the fact that you grew big and when the child is gone your organs have to move back in to place so you all need ct and mri so you know everything is back in place I hope this info has helped

To anyone still having these FLUTTERS in the tummy area - especially within a couple years of having a baby -

GET YOUR THYROID CHECKED!!!

Many women have or get thyroid imbalances during pregnancy, and then after pregnancy.  Has something to do with all the hormones.  This can lead to real problems, ongoing problems.

This was brought up in another post on this forum about tummy flutters, and it's worth mentioning here.

Having your Thyroid levels checked is a really easy & fairly cheap blood test.  ASK for it!

So glad to have found other mums with these symptoms. I had may baby 5 months ago via c section and was back in surgery 4 hours after the birth with a hematoma. I was cut open twice and recovery has been rough. The last few weeks I have experienced what feels like movements in my stomach. I think it's the muscles twitching and possibly nerves causing the sensation. I really dont think its anything to be concerned about. A c section is major abdominal surgery that cuts through skin, muscles and nerves. My ob has said that the skin only grows a mm a day, so very slow. I think because you can't feel anything for so long, it feels very strange and is more noticeable now.

Thank God i found this ! i had a c section 7 months ago, this past 2 months i have felt like i was pregnant again, like a baby moving around inside me and sometimes i would even see my belly move!! i am on the contraceptive pill and i take regular periods but i still wasnt satisfied, so i bought a pregnancy test and it was negative. i went to my GP and was tolf that the moving sensation is actually your abdominal muscles, during a c section the surgeon has to cut throught all the layers of muscle and muscle tissue and after your body heals the wound it then begibs to heal the muscle which can take up to a year, anyhow, the sensation we get is because our muscles have been seperated, whatever way we lie or move it can caused them to move around trying to find the place they should be. this can go on for months before they start sowing themselves together again keeping them in place. i.e this is why situps wont tone ur baby belly after a c section, pilates is the only thing that works as it starts from the bottom layer of muscle. Hope this helps.

Your stomach is overreacting, its the nerves in the stomach and most ppl take reglan for this problem and it is a problem.
