Hi, I too am 44yr old and have stopped taking the pill approx 6 weeks ago and I too also have Hashimotos.
I have gained about 4kg in the last couple of months and I regularly go to the gym.
I was wondering how things are going for you now as your post is a year old? Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you stay on the birth control pills and did the weight continue to drop? I've had the same problem and getting ready to go back on because I can't stand this weight gain. Been off for 7 months and I've gained 12 pounds. It's like the 12 pounds went right into my gut and I have a muffin top which I've never had before. Now I have this layer of soft cellulite over my body mainly in stomach and upper thighs. Disgusted. I've never gained weight like this before and I can't wait to see my doctor so I can go back on the pill. I'll just stay on it until I hit menopause! I'm only 39 now. lol Good luck!

Good to hear that going back on pill helped you to already lose weight. I can't wait to go back on the pill. I hope to lose this weight too.

I too gained a "silly putty" middle like you and gained 12 pounds so far and still gaining. I've also gotten muffin tops which I never had before. I'm going back on the pill, I'm so done with this weight gain! My self confidence has plummeted and I'm done buying bigger pants. My libido came back for like a week when I stopped birth control pills and then was gone....so much for that. It comes and goes but I think my weight gain has affected that now because I feel so fat and bloated. Gosh the bloated feeling all the time is the worst! I feel like someone has put a balloon inside of me and inflated it!

Maybe you have PCOS if it’s to do with androgens. The pill helps with PCOS. I think many women who come off the pill regain their PCOS symptoms and weight gain.

The same thing just happened to me! Did you ever find out why you gained weight and were you able to make it stop?! :(

I stopped the pill 2 years ago, I also did gain around 10 kilos in a very short term. You just need to be patient, I lost weight since then, you need to wait until your body gets used to it.
It takes 2 years for your body to loose the weight you gained

I am having this same problem! I’ve always been able to lose weight fine when on the pill eating EXACTLY the same, if not worse, than what I am now and i am rapidly putting on weight. It’s really getting to me and everyone is trying to tell me it’s not a thing which is frustrating me even more. But it’s the only explanation to why I’m putting on so much weight and my clothes no longer fit. And I don’t want to go back on the pill bc I have zero sex drive when on it. Does anyone have an solution to this yet???

Every single woman I know has gained weight after stopping the birth control pill, each one gained 15-39 pounds within 3 months. All these woman were of different ages, from mid 20’s to early 40’s. The weight has been impossible for each one of them to lose. Despite every doctor denying the connection, there is definitely some kind of association between stopping the pill and gaining weight.

I know this post is old but I thought I'd give it a try. I am in the same boat. Hashimoto. Long term use of the pill. As soon as I went off I have been steadily gaining weight. Did you go back on the pill? Do you think it was worth it?

I have also gained weight, particularly in my love handle area, since going off the pill. I started going off end of December and have gained a noticeable amount in that area. I haven’t switched my workout or diet. I’m really fit and only 24 years old. I eat healthy as well. I am going on the pill again starting tomorrow. I hope my weight drops to what it was.

I’m 36, was on Mononessa for 4 yrs with no problems, only switched to Yaz to help clear up my breakouts. Worst mistake ever! Was on Yaz for only 4 months and I gained weight very very quickly, also all in my stomach and upper chest. The side effects were so severe I thought I was having heart problems and GI/abdominal issues. I had every test known to man done to figure out what was wrong. I’ve always been a size 0 110 lbs consistently for yrs (It’s taken me 10 yrs to gain 10 lbs), now I’m about 123 lbs and still gaining. I’ve been off birth control all together for 8 months. I don’t know what to do! My diet hasn’t changed since before switching my birth control and I’m fairly active. My GI Dr said my gut flora was severely damaged and put me on reflux meds to help repair my stomach (even though I don’t officially have reflux). It’s not working to the degree I think it should and I’m still gaining weight. My annual exam is next week and I plan to ask my Dr what I need to do. I swore I wouldn’t go back on birth control for so many reasons...but now I’m seriously considering doing so if it would make me lose this weight and feel “normal” again. I haven’t felt “normal” since last July. I’m also debating on getting on some type of probiotic. I’ve heard really good things about them and particularly to repair the gut, which apparently Yaz is known to cause severe problems with. I’m just so miserable and need all the help I can get!

It is all in the stomach and boobs
It has been horrible. My eating habits have not changed.
People say it’s menopause also, but I really think it’s the pill
