Strange aching, sore area deep in left front neck

Have you tried applying heat and taking ibuprofen? There is a major muscle in front that can be pulled, my PCP told me to treat it this way, will tell you later if it works

These posts are old, but I happened upon them while looking for a solution to the pain in my neck/throat. It was (still is but is finally getting better) on the left side, about halfway between my chin and collarbone, and somehow deep in the neck but not in the throat.. It was exactly as people were describing. I've had it in the past and it would last for a day or two and then disappear. This time it just continued to get worse for weeks and even ibuprofen wouldn't lessen the pain. Sometimes the pain would radiate up my sinuses and left ear, and sometimes down my arm, and it was almost excruciating to touch it. It was starting to interfere with sleeping and the pain never seemed to go away, though it would fluctuate through the day. Sometimes it would even become difficult to swallow or turn my head. But then I found that sometimes if I turned my head a certain direction the pain was lessened so I decided to try stretching the muscles in different areas of my neck. I found if I pressed a spot in between my collarbone and the muscle in my shoulder, into the small muscle, the pain was bad at that spot but lessened considerably the pain in my throat. Then I found if I turned my head to the right and down almost onto my chest to stretch that muscle in the back of my neck, the pain disappeared for a minute or two. I would have sworn the problem was inside my neck/throat, but for me at least, it ended up being a muscle running down the back of my neck into my back, and the muscle next to my throat below my collarbone. I realized it started a couple months after I moved my monitors to the desk on my right and was spending hours a day with my head turned about 70 degrees to the right.

Just stumbled across this post whilst searching neck pain, I know it's an old thread but it's a relief to know I'm not the only one having this sort of pain and felt I must add my experience of it.The pain in my neck is similar to alot of the post's on here left hand side sometimes a general ache/feeling in neck, sometimes almost a sharp pain for literally seconds, sometimes it feels more on Jaw line a pea sized ache when pressed. I don't get ear pain but sometimes my ear feels sort of numb (that's the only way i can describe it). I can go weeks sometimes months with no pain what so ever. I also get a sore tongue on left which is due to an anterior open bite I have which makes me keep biting my tongue. I do wonder if it's connected but they did not start at the same time the tongue biting came first. I also have Polymyalgia and am on steroids I also wonder if this may be a course. Would be interesting to know if anyone else with this neck pain have any of theses problems I have mentioned.

Yes! Me too! Word for word, exactly what you are saying! Especially the "popping it back in place" ! I've had this since I was in high school or college, not often. I'm 42. Last few times this year I could not push it enough to get it to pop back in place and stop hurting. It usually comes on during the night while I'm asleep and wakes me up. Today it just won't let up. It's been hurting all day, I've been massaging and pushing on it but the pain is still there. Crazy!

I found I myself have signs of this, similar to what you are describing. I find when I yawn abruptly, what feels like a gland in the left side of my throat to get stuck in the wrong place. When this happens every time I swallow I feel a sharp pain in the area, with the feeling of it becoming more inflamed every time I swallow. Later I found out that the technique of a forced cough could move whatever became trapped back and the pains when swallowing when away. Try coughing. Also anyone who has any more information or medical knowledge of this phenomena please add and comment on this as I would also like more information

So strange.... my sense of smell has heightened as the same area on my neck has been sore since Feb

Yes it does I have that same problem that's why I'm asking questions about this now. What should I do?

Similar "throat" pain only on one side for two months - ENT diagnosed Thyrohyoid Ligament Syndrome - said to read up on it and steroid injection(s) could be given in a difficult to pinpoint area close to the carotid artery if I wanted. Will probably try massage /non-force directional chiropractic first, then.. not sure.

I've been having very similar problems for 7-8 months now. I'm 36 years old and never had any medical issues before. In January 2017, I had the Paraguard IUD, after 9 months of pain and numerous issues I couldn't take it anymore and I had it removed. It's been about 7 mths now since I had it removed and I haven't felt like myself in over a year.

For the last 8 months I been having neck pain. It's mostly on the left side of my neck and it comes and goes. It's been a week now and the pain has been constant. The pain is sometimes under my jaw or on my left front/side of my neck. The pain shoots up on the left side my head/temple and it feels like pressure/pain. It comes and goes.

I have been back and forth to the doctor. I had 2 CT scans, several blood tests and an ultrasound of my thyroid. The doctors found nothing. Which makes this even more scarey because something is causing this pain in my neck.

After doing some research I learned that several people are suffering with the same or similar symptoms that I am. I'm just wondering if any of y'al got any answers?
I'm making another appt with my doctor today in hopes to get this all resolved.

I got something like this last night. This morning my left side front of neck by juggler vein / lymph node is sore to touch. Hurts when I turn my head or cough. Do not have a sore throat. Feel as if effects my ear as well. Kinda scary. I'm a hypochondriac so I Google it and of course it says deep blood clot in neck

Did anyone get their thyroids tested

I have all of these symptoms on and off for years. I had a normal Neck Ultrasound several months ago along with ENT evaluation and upper endoscopy. Nothing abnormal. Just living with it.
Hurts when driving when I turn my head

I have had this pain three times. The first time it came on I thought I might be having a stroke or something. The pain came on suddenly and was very severe. It felt like there was a stick in my neck that poked me down ward and up ward when I swallowed. Swallowing became almost involuntary because it felt like something was pressing on my throat. It was early in the morning so we called the para medics and the pain completely went away while they were checking my vital signs. The para medic thought it might be a clogged salivary gland. The second time the pain came on early in the morning again so we decided to go the ER. The pain completely went away about half way to the hospital. All that was in 2017. On June 29 this year the pain hit again early in the morning. We went to the ER this time because the pain didn't go away in a short time like I expected. The ER doc did a ct scan and found nothing except a small nodule on the right side of my thyroid. Good news, arteries look great. The pain lasted until 10PM that night and then disappeared completely. I followed up with my GP a couple days later. After he said, "I've never heard of that before" he did some quick research and decided to send me to ENT with a suspicion that I have "Hyoid bone syndrome". This time the area has stayed tender and I have found I can decrease the discomfort with OTC pain med and heat. I am interested to see what the ENT has to say. I am also going to follow up with my chiropractor.
