My 16 year old daughter is experiencing the same thing for the past three weeks. After reading many of you getting no solid answers from doctors I am going to try to very strong supplements called Serra Enzyme and CurcuminX4000 agressivly for the next few months and see if I get better results than the doctors. I don't want her to be on anti-inflammatories, since that is a natural response the body is trying to fight something, nor do I want steroids in my 16yr old.
Thank you all for sharing so that I can make all efforts before I too get told it's nothing, because it is something.
Concerned mommy.

I am experiencing the same sensations now. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidis and currently have nodules on my thyroid and sometimes my thyroid becomes inflamed which causes the achey sensation in the neck and around the ears. I'm saying this to suggest that you speak with your dr about checking your thyroid for possible inflammation. I also have bulging and herniated disks in my neck which sometimes pinches the nerves and causes these sensations as well. So for me it could be either one of these contributing to my pain.

OMG, I have the same pain on the left side, I have had CAT scan for my head, left neck, and my shoulder, no one seems to know the cause for the pain. My head gets very heavy and the vain on my left arm down to my wedding ring finger is so painful.. I don't know what to do. My ear doctor said that it might be TMJ. which I don't think it is. The lymph node on the left side of my neck is a little bit bigger than normal.

You may want to get an xray. My dentist found that I have a condition call Eagle Syndrom. Look up Eagle Syndrom to see if your symptoms match

I don't want to scare anybody but don't give up make the doctors run test until they find out what is wrong doctors may misdiagnose or miss something because they usually only focus on the main symtpoms and diagnoses they are use to i have the same problem but i have hyperthyroidism so to answer one of your questions there are lymph nodes deep in your neck but we also have the thyroids, tonsils, parathyroids, trachea, larynx, one of our major arteries there are numerous things in your neck that can be causing a problem. For others it could be something as simple as a muscle strain. So the best advice i can give is go to the doctor when it hurts the most more than likely when it hurts most it will be most inflamed that might help the doctor find the problem.

Yes, I had the same symptoms and I went for Lymphatic Massage and I no longer have the pain. Worth a try! It only took 2 visits and some easy, easy things to do at home and no more pain!! It may work for you. At least start there and then go medical.

I started having this same pain on the left side of my neck and it seems to travel down to the left collarbone. It seems to come and go and when it comes back, it makes me think I'm having some sort of heart problem since the heart is on the left side. I'm relieved that I'm not the only one whose had this and that other doctors haven't diagnosed this as anything cancer or heart related.

eeks! me too...I've posted elsewhere but this topic seems to be right on...for over 10 years (and I'm not dead yet) I've had a very small red spot on the left side of my neck which hurts in the morning and when I touch it...it hasn't spread but I don't know what it is.. just watching to see if anyone knows... Could it be a shingles spot? I figured in the whole scheme of things it wasn't important but I'd like to know what it is and it seems stupid to go to the doctor over such a small thing...thanks!

Have you been to the dentist to see if you have an impaction or an absess in your jaw and gum line. Sometimes the slightest infection in your mouth can cause lymph nodes to flair up.

Have any of you had surgery on your parotid gland? I did and most of you are describing my symptoms to a tee.
