I'm having these symptoms as well about a month after UTI. Did anyone figure out what it is or has it gone away on its own for any of you? I've changed my diet and eliminated alcohol and coffee. I'm just wondering how much longer I might have to deal with this. I am on Uribel, which I would recommend for anyone having urgency/frequency/pain. I will also say that this sensation started after taking cipro. Has anyone else had that experience?

Hi everyone,

I have been suffering from the same symptoms on and off for nearly three years now, however I have had it managed for almost a year now. My anxiety is finally wearing off and I am beginning to be a little more care free again when it comes to intercourse.

For me this started with one UTI 3 years ago, that went undiagnosed for 9 months. I went to several doctors, but since my UA's always came back negative they never prescribed me antibiotics. Finally I went to a Gyno Urologist who was able to culture the urine and find I had a bladder infection. I did the 3 day high dose antibiotics and then she put me on Nitrofuranatoin 50mg antibiotic to take after intercourse. Since longterm antibiotic consumption can lead to negative side effects I started to look for other options event though this worked well for me. I began taking D-Mannose powder twice a day (one teaspoon in 1/2 a cup of water) and an additional dose after intercourse. Then I also always have my low dose antibiotics for when I have a debilitating bladder infection.

Although I still have the occasional UTI, I am slowly becoming myself again and I have been able to reduce them to twice a year with little to no problems in between. You can buy D-Mannose on Amazon for 14.99 and it lasts about a month.

However, my low dose antibiotics have just recently failed me and I am open to other solutions if people have any because I would really like to feel human again, and not plan my life based on when I believe I will suffer from this. But in the meantime I hope this helps other people.

I would recommend the Uribel pill for some relief in the meantime as you figure out your antibiotics. Do you have any info on why your UA always came back negative? I am in the same position right now. I am convinced that I was suffering from an infection but three different cultures have now come back with no bacteria growth at all. My urogynecologist says it might be interstitial cystitis and she doesn't believe I ever had an infection in the first place, despite my first UA having blood, protein and leukocytes. I think it was an infection for sure because it came on the day after I had sex with husband but wasnt careful about peeing/showering after. I've only gotten UTIs in the past from sex. I have taken Cipro and Macrobid but still have the symptoms. If your doctor offered you a reason for why your urine cultures would come back negative for so long even though you had an infection i would love to hear it.

I have had these same symptoms recently. UTI, two different antibiotics, strange throbbing/pulsing bladder and vaginal pain. The only thing that helped me was drinking tons of water and water with fresh squeezed lemon juice in it.. NO SUGAR! LEMON WATER HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP, and has possibly cured me for good of these terrible issues. Also try parsley tea if you cannot pee. Boil fresh parsley in a pot of water and drink up. Helped me immensely at one point. One more thing. Lie a heating pad in your bladder when you go to bed at night. Helps tremendously! I hope you find some comfort from your ailments.

Hi all, I know exactly how you feel. It started about 4 or so years ago, on and off after my first UTI. I just finished my antibiotics for a UTI two wees ago and this feeling is back. I can't describe it to my doctor, he doesn't know what I mean. How can you describe it? I guess it's kind of like a feeling of arousal but not psychologically.... I dunno. I describe it as an extreme awareness of my vagina. I know that sounds super weird but it seems to be the only way to describe it. Anyway, I get it so bad that I can't sleep. I can't fall asleep until I pretty much just pass out. Then I'm awake again in a few hours because of this feeling. Sometimes it gets so bad and uncomfortable that I literally can not do anything but get into squatting position until it goes away... my legs will go numb, maybe I haven't eaten all day... but I can't get up. I just can not move or this feeling will come back. I had chlamydia a while back thanks to my no-good cheating previous sexual partner... it's possible I've had it since soon after meeting him, so for four or so years. When I finally got treated I guess I felt better, I don't remember feeling this way and I would remember it if I did. Anyway we discovered my new partner may have caught it from me so when I got treated, he just gave it straight back. I was praying that was it. It would have all made sense through the time-line... it would have explained everything perfectly and I could take some quick anti-biotics and it would go away forever! But... my urine test came back negative. I'm going to get a swab test done to be 100% sure but I will keep you all updated because I know how utterly horrible this feeling can be. You tell people it's not painful and think you're just being a princess. Thing is, I'd rather be in pain than have this feeling.

I have found relief from mine. It turns out I have a pH imbalance. My mother told me to try this drink and I was 2 months into this mess and would try anything- 8oz water, 2tsp lemon juice, 1/2tsp baking powder. mix it up and let it fizz then drink it every 6 hours. It will neutralize your pH and get rid of the irritation. I hope it works for you.

They never told me why, I just assumed it was incompetence on their part because I went to see a urologist after a year of suffering and the initial results were negative then they cultured it and it did show bacterial growth. I have began a regimen of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a day and honestly I have never felt better. I have been off antibiotics since July, and I have been able to have sex without being paranoid about having a problem. I am going to another doctors appt tomorrow to have a cystoscope done and rule out any damage to my urinary tract. I will let you know if they have any other suggestions.

I would also recommend to limit antibiotic use if possible, besides creating super bugs and suppressing your immune system, they are extremely hard on the liver and cartilage in your body.

All - check out pelvic floor dysfunction. After visiting three doctors, having a Cytoscopy and all finding nothing wrong I tried pelvic floor physical therapy and am feeling much better. The muscle dysfunction can cause urinary symptoms or the feeling of urinary symptoms. There's a good article on Elle about this. Highly recommend anyone who has been dealing with this and not getting answers from doctors to look into physical therapy. It was a life saver for me.

If it's in your vaginal area it sounds like a yeast infection. They come on after rounds and rounds of antibiotics which kill good and bad bacteria, allowing yeast to run rampant in the vagina.
