Greg-

I absolutely feel for you. I am now on day 5 of my suboxone detox. A little history, I started Suboxone 5 years ago, coming off a 2 year bender on oxy due to spine surgery, same story over and over I'm sure... Anyway, about 2 years ago I took a sucide plunge off 24mg of sub only to end up in the emergency room for 2 days. This stuff is bad, bad, bad!!

Long story short, after 4 years of 32mg, to 24mg I finally found a doctor who decided it was time to taper instead of continuing to prescribe it at such a high dose. I did a 14 month taper down to approx 1mg and just kind of hit a maintenance brick wall. I decided to get into a 28 day treatment program and find an adictionologist. The difference between someone who prescribes suboxone and an adictionologist are about a billion miles apart. Seeing your sub doc to get off this drug is like asking a hooker to give you a history lesson! Find an adictionologist!! She/he will get you on about 6 different non-addictive drugs to help with everything from sweats, to cramps to restless legs and arms and chills.

I seriously was scared sh*tless! If you met me, that would give you a fairly good laugh, coming out of my mouth. When it comes down to it bro, the only other advice I can give you is DO NOT DO IT ALONE!!

Other than just having lower than normal energy, probably due to being on this stuff so long messing with my testosterone which I hope will eventually go back to normal, I didn't have the pleasure of suffering really any withdrawals this time. Here is exactly what I did.

1. Get to an adictionologist. Need help, reply here and I'll help you.

2. Get like 10-15 phone numbers of people you can just call and talk about how you are feeling. Don't have that many friends, hit an NA meeting or an AA meeting, you'll walk out the most popular guy in the room, trust me. Then start blowin those fools up!

3. Stop your crappy diet! Eat and drink water all day. Wake up, have a banana, then have an apple an hour later, yogurt 2 hours later, eat lunch, have another apple, etc etc, then dinner and just pound water until your pee looks like platinum.

4. PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT! Drag your azz out of bed in the morning and go for a run or power walk, bike ride, swim, lift weights, whatever. Continue to do this for the next 10 days and it will not only be a new habit that you probably won't wanna stop it will help you get those endorphins going early in the day. So important! Hell man, I'm doing a damn triathlon tomorrow on day 6 of my detox! So I don't wanna hear how tired everyone is. I'm freaking tired too! But damn if I'm going to allow this c**p to dictate my body!

5. Grab the most angry songs off iTunes and load them onto your iPod. Listen to that all day long. While your cleaning house, having lunch, working out, whatever and wherever. Music has an effect on people that just gets them motivated.

Most of everything I told you to do is free or the cost is your normal grocery bill, other then the adictionologist. Usually if you have no insurance and pay cash, they run about $300 for first visit and a followup and will give you all the meds in the office.

Good luck brother, please lemme know how your doing.

Just so u know suboxone has naloxone which will cause birth defects. U need to at least take subutex. Without the naloxone. I actually just today talked to my dr about suboxone and pregnancy and this is what he told me

I agree with your post, I have been on suboxone for 2 years. I started at 4mg, taking it the same time every morning. The last two months i have been detoxing and am now at .5.mg. I have cold.hot sweats basically 24 hrs. a day (Which i believe is partly caused by anxiety [thinking about the detox and putting myself into withdraw quicker]) I have been keeping a video log of my detox (to show the effects of the horrible withdrawal from long term use, that in some cases doc. "forget" or just don't tell you what your going to go through if and when you decide to stop) I have a hard time staying asleep (i was given 2mg Xanax to help with that and the anxiety [which was given to me when i started on the suboxone 2 years ago) This past week since i told him i was having trouble staying asleep (which i should mention, its crucial you get sleep in your REM cycle, yes you feel deloris, foggy, lack of energy if you don't get this) Im basically a mess (when im not at the gym or biking [SWEAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN] I know when feeling like sh*t you don't have motivation to do much, but I'm confident if you go work out (get on a cardio machine, sit in the steam room) YOU WILL FEEL BETTER) After doing 1-1 1/2 hr work out I feel no effects what so ever of withdraw (no im not kidding) take a luke warm shower (dont take hot baths [where your skin gets red] that will mess with your body temperature and when you get out you will feel worse cold/hot sweats. Also there is no such thing as a fast detox (unless your rich and can afford the $400-$20,00 rapid detox's, which i would like info on if you have actually purchased/gone through a rapid detox) Your mind also needs to me in a state where your positive you can handle/want to get off the suboxne, positive thoughts/energy will make this a lot easier. I also take a lot of vitamins (to help with the nutrition that im not getting from lack of appetite) STAY HYDRATED (juice, water, OJ helps, antioxidant drinks) if you have health foods GO TO IT & ask the ppl working in the vitamin/herbal supplements, let them know what your going through (dont feel weird they are actually very helpful/supportive) TRY HARD NOT TO GET ON ANY OTHER, BENZO "Helpers" unless you absolutely have to. I can answer questions, and hope a few of mine will get answered, im DONE with this drug and dont think it should be used long term because of the effects is has on your body/mental state. PLEASE ANY ADVICE IS WANTED.

Just wondering what kind of body cleanse did you do? I have been off of suboxone for 1 week today, and haven't slept since. I have restless legs, but am not fatigued. I am going through acute hot and cold chills also. I appreciate your response.

Wow!

I thought the Subs were the "salvation" in getting off Norco's. Turns out this stuff is harder to wean off of for me than the other. I am ready ot start taking the Vicodin Norco's again. Problem is I can't seem to "tough it out" for 4 days to get the Sub out of the system before I can take a vicodin or soemthing! I'm taking 1.75 of these forsaken strips a day and can't stand it!

Any advice??

Thanks!

There is lots of help my friend so take a deep breath and try to see light. I was on
Subs for 5yrs 3 8mg pills a day, 90 a month. It worked great when it was working for me until i started working them. They made me a shell of my former self but enough about me. This message is for you. My detox at home. Day 8 broke me made appt with my doctor/dealer. He first said go back on subs, i said not a chance. I must express that i was in really bad shape but i made up my mind. I was done with subs. He prescribed me clonidine hcl .1mg for my blood pressure which made me feel.100% better. Hydoxyzine pam 25mg for anxiety and trazodone for sleep. The first two i said above honestly saved me big time. Sleeping is rough so i suggest some type of.benzo for sleep. You can do it. I wish you continued success because your journey begins with wanting to stop the revolving door. Your friend in spirit and in my prayers.

i was on suboxone for two weeks then I stopped. Kept smoking bud (no cigs) and had four days off where I didn't do any physical activity. Day 4 I went to the gym and did about fifteen minutes on stationary bike for cardio (not too intense) and did three sets of bench press and sat in sauna for 10 min-- doing all that gave me energy. Mental is a big part but i totally know how you being tired all the time. I am still struggling but feel like I am starting to get some energy back. The key I think is to in this order; stay WELL hydrated at all times, do light exercise, eat right/healthy ( lots of fruits, not so much OJ). Sleeping is a huge part so you can take something to help you get zzzzz but don't drink alcohol or benzos or any other prescribed meds. You can't look at one day and measure progress--it's a weekly process so you really do have to struggle through it but after two weeks you'll feel much better where you will be to notice the difference in energy and breathing. Stay safe and look forward to seeing you enjoy the real pleasures of life!

I've been on subs for two years straight. I kicked them once but was only on subs for 3 months. If you jump off at a higher dose (8 mgs or more) the withdrawl symptoms can be delayed almost a week. I've been down to 2 mgs a day and notice on day one of not taking it the first symptoms start almost immediately. Fatigue is number one. Sweats and chills follow. But for this guy? Depression and fatigue is by far the worst!!!! Its almost a feeling of being consumed by total darkness and the feelings of sadness and hopelessness are terrible. Today I'm gonna taper down to 1 mg a day for four days then I'm making the jump. I know what will follow will be ugly. But!!! I kicked the methadone clinic in 09'. Not to mention kicking a 2 to 3 gram a day heroin habit several times in my life. Back to methadone, I jumped off at 30 mgs a day. IT WAS UTTERLY TERRIBLE!!! Three weeks of sickness, followed by two months of bad cramps and severe fatigue. In total, it took me one year to get back to normal. If I could make it through that, I can make it through this. And I know for a fact that kicking subs WILL NOT BE NEARLY AS BAD!!!! I am so tired of being the b***h of some kind of substance. I'm getting back in the gym and I plan on a great summer in the NH/VT mountains. Theres no pain-free way out of this. I used Doctors assistance with the methadone withdrawls. Tramadol for the pain and Clonodine and Flexerall for sleep. Helped a lot! If I have to do that for sub wd....I certainly will. Good luck to all. Don't give up. Its not easy but totally do-able. I'll keep you posted on my progress. ~Jimmy ;)
