I have been a social/regular drinker for many years and enjoyed the taste of alcohol. Although I did have repeat utis and at some point had hepatitus B, I had no aversion to alcohol until about a year ago. I can't stand the taste of it suddenly. It tastes bitter and unpleasant and goes righ thru my body quickly with no pleasant sensation. What do you think is wrong with me???? I have asked many doctors.

I disagree. You can't trick what you want your body to do. I have had this increased sensitivity to alcohol and so, drink no more. I'd love to understand what happened and if there's a way around it, but until then, I do not ever want to feel that way again. The curiosity is that I have always enjoyed a cocktail, but now just can't do it. No new meds. or health issues; it's a puzzle.

Your story really hit home for me, I'be never been as I'll as you describe but have been getting worse and am so nauseous after drinking just one or two drinks. I need to stop burying my head in the sand and stop drinking alcohol ever. Thanks for posting.

Sudden distaste for certain beverages and changes in taste preference is an early sign of pancreatic cancer.

There can me many causes however autoimmunity could very well be one, and you might suffer from one (or more) autoimmune disorders. That is extracted how I discovered I have Hashimoto's disease amongst others just last year. I am an extremely healthy 24 year old female and previously never had a intolerance problem, quite on the contrary. I hope this helps.

I have been searching the internet for what is happening to me! Thank you so much for your post, it is EXACTLY what happened to me. I had done a cleanse not long before the initial spell and thought that I had super scrubbed my liver or something! But it happened again on the same amount of red wine. so a week later I had one glass and the same thing..the next day. we thought maybe it was the sulfites so I tried having 3 beers one night....no vomiting next day but felt like I wanted to. I didn't realize beer also contains sulfites! at this point, I don't care what it is, I just won't drink I guess, beacuse if you have been through this, it is the worst, toxic, unholy vomiting you can imagine and its just not worth it! but on the occasion would be nice, has anyone tried the otc heartburn meds like the last post said? Please let us know, oh you brave ones! also...don't you think its odd that the majority of the posts are women...I'm a 43 yr old female, who could drink some guys under the table. I think perhaps devloping this has something to do with hormones............???

Hello. I can't believe what I'm reading. It's exactly what I'm experiencing right now. I'm 36 drank a good amount in college and business school and over last few years as a banker. One day at a charity auction it kicked in. After a couple of glasses of wine came the violent vomiting and other symptoms mentioned on the post. After trial and error I found that it's more severe with red wine ( bummer as that's my drink of choice ) hope somebody can find a cure fast cause I wanna go back to Merlot.

Ok so everyone seems to have the same problems here but no answers yet :(  I am in the same vote. 40 m and healthy. I have been a heavy drinker since my late teens. And into my middle thirties. I would drink at least 6 beers a day or more and pretty much drank to get drunk. I could go hard at night and wake up feeling like c**p for a couple hours and then by lunch I would be licking my chops thinking of the frosty cold delight waiting for me at home after work. At 38 and out of the blue I started noticing stomach pains severe vomitting and taking days to recover from drinking 3-5 beers. It gradually got so bad that I no longer drink what so ever. I was extremely I'll over the Xmas holidays and ended up in ER. they put me through a load of test including CT Scan, ultra sound, xrays, stool, blood, urine samples. My liver and stomach organs were excellent ultra sound showed no signs of inflammation. urine and stool sample perfect. So now I am really in the dark as to why any alcohol reduces me to the fetal position for hours and feeling like sh*t for days after.

I had same problem with alcohol. Deathly ill, terrible headache after just 1 beer. Followed by fever, joint pain. Turned out I had a tick disease that caused the alcohol intolerance. I was tested, diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease and Erlichiosis. After months on antibiotics I am back to normal. Can drink with no adverse side effects. I have no idea as to how long I had the tick disease before symptoms showed up, but the alcohol intolerance was a sign of something seriously wrong since I have been a social drinker for 20 years. Living in the mid-Atlantic states, ticks are common. I am so thankful my doctor thought to check for tick diseases.

I have the same problem, I am a female 38 years old, use to drink quite a bit in my teens and twentys.  I would always get a hangover but I was tollerable.  In my thirtys I drank less and less but still liked to go out and have a few drinks once in a while. Now for the last several months I can not drink at all if I do I get very sick for 2-3 days (Headache, nausea, extreamly tired).  I tried beer, wine and gin and all made me very sick.  I have not gone to the doctor yet but plan to discuss it with him at my next visit.

I'm with many of you. Socially, I have drank for years (more in college, but hey- that's everyone, right?) but over the last 6 months EVERYTIME I have one drink I become very ill after about an hr. I get a terrible headache that lasts for about 2 days, throw up and have multiple trips to the bathroom where I have horrible diareaha. I do not become flushed, have rashes, etc. so it's hard to think that it is what is being called a normal alcohol intolerance. I mentioned these symptoms to my dr. And she's running a few tests. H pylori, auto immune panel, liver enzymes, and mono. These tests might be a starting place for some of you. Good luck everyone! Hopefully someone will determine what this is soon!

Ditto for me. Drinking even moderate amount causes EXTREME nausea and feeling like I'm going to pass out.
