Look at my post. Ditto re wine being the culprit.

I am in the same boat as all of you.  same story, plenty of alcohol for much of life, now it's a killer (or wish I was dead anyway!)

the sad fact is alcohol is a big part of being social in this world.  listening to your body and not drinking alcohol is easy and smart, until it's Saturday night at a party and you are bored...with hours to go before your spouse is done having fun!

this many people with the same problem and no real answer is pretty surprising and also disappointing...hello doctors???  real problem to look into here???

all the tricks like greasy food, antacids, water, etc.  can help, except when they don't and you are hugging the toilet for 12 hours.

good luck fellow sufferers!!!

I also have a similar situation..... when I drink any alcohol (more then one) I get this horrible migraine headache, and usually the next day I throw up continously, until everything is out of my stomach, and only then I feel better. Overnight, the beer or liquor will gel up and turn into some thick liquid that sits at the bottom of my stomach, and only after drinking water and puking it out many times can I get rid of it all.

I never used to have this problem, and could drink just fine before.... I still have no clue what causes this or how to fix it. I have been reading, some say IBS or H pylori infection, or low alcohol dehydrogenase or a problematic liver. I wish I could find a cure!!

I just turned 35 and I have noticed that within the past 4-5 months I cannot tolerate hard liquor. I never have been a heavy drinker. Before I had my daughter at 26 I was more of the party girl, binge drinker and I could handle it, now one drink and its a sudden migraine. So strange

I also developed this issue after years of drinking socially through college at 26 years old I began having reactions to even 1/2 a beer including nausea, migraine, stomach cramps, chills, dizzyness...
What happened to my body all the sudden, I am not on and was not on any medications.

Recently, I recovered from the similar issues. I had been facing bloating, for 9 months and finally become intolerant to alcohol very recently. I see, it has some relation with undue stress and anxiety, that I was going through at my office.
I took a fortnight off from office. Went to my hometown (country side). My mother being a naturopath, she gives with few herbal syrups in the morning, empty stomach, only fruits for dinner, a fair sized lunch without any fried stuffs, and breakfast is primarily idly or dosa.
I did atleast an hour of simple exercises as well, every day.

When I returned, I was 6 kgs down, perfectly back to form in alcohol appetite. However, nowadays, I started taking things lightly and cut down on alcohol as well drastically..

Aha! I have been searching this topic for quite some time since I am a victim of the same evil.

Let me explain. I have been a very alcohol tolerant man for as long as I remember. I could easily consume 360 to even 540 ml of alcohol and still talk sense. Until...about a year ago suddenly...after one drink I started to feel uncomfortable. Slowly I was red all over, my eyes were burning, face was red and the redness spread to my neck, upper chest and back, shoulders. my breathing was loborious, muscles were straining, etc. I stopped drinking and started having my dinner...but my jaws hurt and became exhausted. (by this time you have either related or discarded).
I quit drinking!...for about 3 months. Then I tentatively started again....and to my surprise, I could drink without problems. I continued. Till it came again. Again I stopped. Again I started.
And then the third time I decided...its enough! I have to gt to the root of this problem!
I lunged upon internet! Wverything pointed me to alcohol intolerance and the genetic problem of east asians. I was not convinced! If that was the cause I would not have been a champion drinker earlier!!!
There has to be something else!
And then through a click of luck I found it. IT WAS TO TO BUGS IN MY TUMMY (and most of yours...the people who developed sudden intolerance). Its YEAST INFECTION IN YOUR INTESTINES...CANDIDA!
Like I had done before...I quite drinking. But this time I was determined not to wait 2-3 months to start drinking again. I gave myself 10 days. And in these 10 days I...
- stopped sugar intake
- put my trust on Indian herbs and ancient knowledge. I learned about different herbs which helped cleanse my digestive system, and detoxify my body.
- I went on a detox routine with Indian herbs helping me along
- Kalonji
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Ajwain
- Neem
No sugar, no fried food, controlled diet...early morning couple of garlic cloves, a little garlic, kalonji boiled in water and both the water and kalonji.
Liver tonic twice a day.
Ajwain after every meal
Kayam Churan (an ayurvedic medicine to clear stomach and treat stomach ailments like gas, acidity, constipation, etc))
Yogurt once a day...and much more.
I was determined to kill the yeast in my intestines.
Glad to say that at the end of 10 days I am able to drink alcohol as much as I want with the color of my skin intact. It took me 3 relapses to identify the real problem...thankfully now I know!!!

My issues are a lot more complicated to explain and a long story around it but I tried Lufeneron and was completely well for a year and a half until I accidentally consumed some alcohol that was in my food (this triggered my symptoms again). It is a potent anti-fungal that kills candida. It is hard to keep candida from coming back in my case and something that works once for me (a herb, cleanse etc), doesn't work again unfortunately. But I just wanted to post in case it can help someone permanently or temporarily:) Blessings and wellness to all!

Alconol intolerance....just diagnosed. The enzyme that breaks down the alcohol in the liver is non existent. You cannot get it back. It's mostly with Asian decent. I do not have this background, but sure do have alcohol intolerance. The allergist only siggestion was to try very low alchol beverages ex.some beers. Uugghh

my background is being able to drink anything all night as a teen and young adult, to being someone who gets a headache with one beer, and multiple drinks might lead to 12 hours of vomiting and migraine-like pain....but sometimes it wouldn't happen, and it kept me unwilling to swear off alcohol, as social events are pretty boring when you are the only one not drinking (sad to say, but true).
I have had good luck lately with taking simple antacids and ibuprofen before bed and several time during the night. who knew? generic calcium carbonate from the grocery store is very cheap. a greasy breakfast, if physically possible, also helps a lot.
of course, it doesn't always work, and I pay the price and question my motives...
a cousin was recently diagnosed by a doctor with this issue, and was told that the herbal supplement milkthistle often has good results.
good luck everyone!
