Once upon a time I could usually Polish off a bottle of wine in a night... I know this is not healthy, however these days I can have a glass and feel ratted and most of the time not really enjoy it i then feel bad with myself for caving into temptation, I am wondering if been suddenly unable to handle it is a sign of an underlying problem as it does seem to depend on situation just sat at home gets boring where as if I was out I could probably carry on as I once did. It's quite hard been mid twenties when many social interaction involve going places where alcohol will be involved but at the same time im scare these are symptons of early Damge

I am in my mid 40s, a mother of teens, and developed similar intolerance about 2 years ago. I've never been a huge drinker, but was always able to enjoy casual drinking without issue. I have done a lot of research and have concluded my problem is leaky gut syndrome, likely caused by candida overgrowth, or candida albicans. I've radically changed my diet and take numerous supplements and feel great. It's been about a month. I'm going to maintain the diet for one more month, then start reintroducing foods and alcohol again. I'll update this post to let you know if it works. Look up leaky gut and see if it fits your situation.

I have had similar experiences. I'm only 20 and I drank very heavily for a year or two. I downed drinks no problems but now, even if someone puts a beer in front of me I have to stop myself from puking just at the thought of it. Whenever I do force drinks down, I immediately feel sick to my stomach and have to try my hardest to keep it down. Even if I have just a few drinks, I am sick for about the next 48 hours but not just a regular hangover. It's 20x worse and I vomit for about 12 hours before I stop. I feel sick every time I even think about drinking. I have cut down to almost nothing but I'm in college ! I want to be able to have fun here and there. Has anyone found solutions to this ??

My brother had same problem after drinking heavy for 20-25 years...he developed this intolerance 4 years back. He went to many doctors and hospitals...nothing came in tests. Recently he got a full kidney daignose and the problem is with kidney.
Now he can't even take a sip of any alcoholic drinks...and become an ass due to this.

I don't have hangover or vomiting issues, but OMG I absolutely hate the taste of everything, now.  I have always deeply enjoyed several varieties of red wine and am even a bit of a collector on a very small scale, but for weeks I cannot even tolerate the "bouquet" or taste.  I have detested every bottle I've opened for the past 6 weeks or so, and I've opened a few of my very favourite brands and grapes. Both the smell and taste are super gross.  I have not suffered a recent hangover or anything else that I think could consciously or unconsciously make me dislike the taste of wine, but it is intense.  I can only guess that there is some physical reason that I'm intuitively drawn away from it, and accept that.  It's pretty weird, though.  It's a bit disappointing as well, because I admit that one or two glasses of red wine made me pretty effing happy.  I guess I'll have to swap vices.

Here's a thought for all of you. This happened to me as well, gradually over years. It finally got really bad right before I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. If you don't know much about this disease, I recommend checking out ILADS.org and watching a film (on iTunes or amazon it's like $4) called "Under Our Skin." This is one of the diseases (maybe the only one) that's political and leaves patients facing denial from medical practitioners, so it's not easy to get good info. That's why I recommend the sources I did. Bottom line for Lyme patients: alcohol brings out all the symptoms of the disease in full force. It's worth getting educated. I hope none of you have it, because it's not fun, but if you do, I hope you can get treated...

Get your liver enzymes checked. They are not working for some reason. All of my research on this points to some kind of liver failure. I also read to get checked for hodgekins lymphoma with these symptoms. I had the same thing happen to me.

It's funny that you mention IBS. I developed alcohol intolerance out of nowhere about 8 years ago. I get very very sick, very quickly. I also have very bad IBS. I wonder if it could be rushing the alcohol through our systems, and it doesn't stop to process, until it hits the colon full force. It may overwhelm the colon and make us sick. That is a big thought.
