Hi everyone,

I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a month. I've noticed that he has difficulties falling asleep, meaning that he has to remain in bed for a few hours until he falls asleep, and then he can't remain asleep for a long time. He sleeps for 3-4 hours in the best situation, and wakes up several times. Also, while falling asleep he does have some sudden shakes which last for a second or two. I talked to him about it, and apparently he notices them himself. They're so strong that can wake me up also. I can tell something is bothering him, I did try to talk to him to make him feel better but he always says that he's happy when I'm around and talking would only make him sad again, so I try not to really push him. I really want to help him, and I'm worried about his shaking/sleeping issues. I begged him to see a doctor, but he says he hates them. Does anyone have any suggestions? :(

He is 22 by the way.

Best,

I used to have this problem and to a degree sometimes still do. It is anxiety related. He needs to address any anxiety issues he has by first visiting a physician for a complete physical and discussing this problem with them. He might need medication/therapy or a combination of both or practice meditative techniques and yoga. Exercise works well for this too although it can be hard for some anxious people to exercise. Exercise increasing the heart rate and this can cause fear in those who have anxiety and panic attacks. First step, visit a doctor.
