Success! That is how I feel about my surgery with Dr. Hovanesian. (Dr. H for short). It has now been 75 days since my ping removals. 2 nasal pings were removed. Are my eyes perfect now? It depends on the day. Some days my eyes look great and others my eyes look okay. It seems as though when I get more sleep my eyes look better. Anyway, there is still a slight pinkish color on the nasal sides with a few veins but that is to be expected. It seems as though my eyes get better and better every day. There are days though, when I look in the mirror, and I can't believe how good my eyes look! You could never tell that I had this kind of surgery. I would recommend the auto graft surgery to anyone. Dr H is awesome and has been doing the surgeries for over a decade. He has done thousands of these surgeries! I completely trust him.
I am so glad I drove down to California and got this done. I hardly even think about my eyes anymore. Yes, they are not perfect all the time at this point, but its so much better than super red, stinging, blood shot eyes. Oh and yes the pain is gone.
By the way, I appealed this surgery to my insurance twice and they said they would cover 60% of the surgery! You have to battle it out with these companies!
On the subject of recovery, I am not going to lie, your eyes will be very red the first few weeks. So plan on taking some time off of work. But slowly and surely your eyes heal and life goes on.....
For those scared to do the surgery, don't be! It was a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Frustrated girl, I would be totally cool with sending you pictures of before and after. If anyone else would like to know details of the surgery and more info. Just contact me. Thanks everyone, I will continue to post comments.

Thats great, that it is so much better for you now. Pinkish is better than yellow I think. When you have yellow eyes you look so sick i think.

Update: I have RE-scheduled my surgery (both eyes same day) for next Wednesday 6/17/09. I chickened out last year but am having so much discomfort with the pings now that it just can't wait. The previous posts are so helpful - I only wish, like everyone else, that there were before and after pix posted at specific time intervals. Harvard Eye will send photographs if you ask for them after your consultation. Sometimes after the surgery, the graft bubbles temporarily, so I asked for a photo of that situation and received a photo quickly. I asked them why they don't publish more before and after photographs in a brochure or on a website. Apparently they don't see most patients except once post-surgery and it is usually only after 1 week. I can be reached at **** post-surgery to share my experiences and results.

I am from Ontario Canada and I am schedule to have surgery done on both eyes July 16th 2009. I am scared as heck but I know I need it done. My doctor is from Chatham , Ontario Dr. Anjema. He does cosmetic work as well as other stuff. I have researched this alot and still have decided to get it done. Have sore eyes that feel like there is something sharp in the eye poking it all the time is no fun. I was told by my doctor that not only from dry areas it can be cause because of too much reading or time on the computer as when you are doing either of those you do not blink that much and if something small gets in the eye and it does not get blinked away it can embed into the eye causing the pingecula's .. I do both way to much also to much exposure to UV rays can cause it ( again with the whole eye drying out thing ) I will post back once my surger is done. I have a regular sized ping in the left eye and a very small one in the right eye. I am hoping to take pictures before and after so if some one wants they can let me know and i can send them to you.
I would like to hear from someone whos had 2 eyes done at the same time and has had the stitches done ( that is apparently how mine is being done ) Do you have patches on eyes afterwards if so for how long .. how long is the healing process.. etc..

How big are your Pings? What problems do you have now? Are your eyes always red? My problem is that they look yellow and ugly and the feeling of all the time having something in my eyes. I hate it! The doctor will remove the small ping aswell? I guess it is better to remove a small one than a big. I mean you will not have a big scar right? Not many doctors wants to do that though.
Would love to see before and after pictures but i do not know if i can write my email here.

I got lasek done last year my ping don't look as inflammed but i still have 2 yellow spots on the sclera of the eye. I am going to see an eye surgon in August and he said if I really want it done, he'll do it but i might be left with a scar.. which he said could look worse...dont know what to do?? would you mind sending me your b4 and after pic's. did you get stiches in the end? I recently discovered I was misdiagnosed and urge everyone to see another ophthalmologist.
In March 2008, I was diagnosed with a pinguecula in my right eye. Approx 6 weeks later, I went back to the same ophthalmologist who said now I had a ping in my left eye. The bumps were white, not colored. They were in the classic ping spot. Looking at photos online, I thought I was lucky my pings were white.
I wore contacts at the time, and I stopped wearing them due to the discomfort created by the "pings" and not wanting to make them worse. I started using high-potency allergy eyedrops and eye lubricant religiously.
After 18 months of being forced to wear glasses instead of contacts, I decided to look into Lasik. Would it be possible with pings? So I went to see another opthalmologist who does Lasik. (Doing research on Lasik and pings, I found this site and all the posts with great info. Thank you!)
The second ophthalm looked at my eye and told me that my ping was not a ping. He said it was a cyst/lymph bump that would be easily dealt with using an incision. It never had been a ping. (The other eye had cleared up on its own.) Not wanting to just take this because it was what I was happy to hear, I went to another ophthalm. She confirmed it was a cyst and not a ping.
The first ophthalm was not a kid fresh out of residency. He was in his 50s or 60s. Still, he misdiagnosed my condition and caused me 18 months of unpleasantness.
The ophthalm who correctly diagnosed me did my procedure 2 weeks ago, and I just went back for my follow-up visit. My eye is now completely flat, and the unpleasant something-in-my-eye sensation is gone. I put my contacts back on the day after my follow-up visit.
If you've been told you have a ping, please get a second opinion. I am angry at myself for not having done it sooner.

So sorry to hear that but happy for you, that you do not have this damn thing. My eyedoctor did not evan see that i had a ping in the first place i had to tell him to use glasses if he has a problem with his vision. That is the thing with a doctor in his 50´s or 60´s He probably need glasses. It is kind of strange he could not see that it was a cyst/lymph anyway
That is very disturbing! Can you explain to me--why would you continue to see that doctor if he misdiagnosed you? I would recommend finding a new one if that's the case. What do you think?

of course i am not seeing that doctor anymore if he can not use glasses. Exactly, a very good point. I don't know--some people do still go to doctors even after that sort of thing. Are you considering a malpractice suit or anything? It might not be a bad idea...
