Sometimes my fingers swell and my skin gets hard.It burns too.Example/If I hold a grocery bag on my fingers they will most likely swell up.It is mainly around the knickle area.Waht in the world could this be?
Does this happen only when you are holding a heavy bag for some time? Because if it does, then it is perfectly normal because it happens to me too and then I have to change hands until I arrive home. I hate that!

What happens is that you cut blood supply with the bag handles on couple of places and you usually cut parts of fingers on two sides, the blood that exists between these two strong pressures accumulates and it gets swollen and the skin may become hard.
The burning and stinging is from putting too much pressure on the skin. This is how I see things.

Anyway, if you happen to experience these problems without anything causing pressure on your fingers, just like that, out of the blue, then you should certainly see a doc and have it checked to see if there’s an underlying condition.

I have this exact problem and its not just when i hold plastic bags, that just makes the problem worse. it also regularly happens when i am walking for more than 15 mins and is especially bad in the cold weather. i have no idea what causes this but would be extremely greatfull if anyone could shed any light on this as it can be painfull, i know i am anemic, could the two be related?

I HAVE HAD THE SAME THING GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. STARTED OUT WITH A FINGER TIP, THEN MULTIPLE FINGERS, THEN PARTS OF A FOOT, THEN INTO BOTH FEET, THEN UP TO MY LEFT PALM, THEN TOP OF RIGHT HAND. NO GUESSING WHERE IT WANTS TO SHOW ITSELF...EXCEPT TO SAY IT'S HANDS AND FEET. ITCH SO BAD THAT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING COARSE ENOUGH TO SCRATCH WITH THEN WITHIN MINUTES TURNS SO RED AND SWOLLEN (IF NOT SWOLLEN BEFORE) THAT I CANNOT TOUCH THE SPOT. BLOOD TESTS: NEGATIVE. ALLERGY TESTS: NEGATIVE. THE FEW DOCTORS I HAVE SEEN OR TALKED TO SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. IT KIND OF MAKES YOU WONDER HOW MUCH WE ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT? ANYWAY, I HAVE READ ALL THE COMMENTS SO FAR ON THIS WEBSITE. IF I WANT TO DIAGNOSE MYSELF I COULD HAVE LUPUS, DIABETES, ARTHRITIS, DRINKING BAD WATER OR ADVERSE REACTION TO WATER OR SOME FORM OF AN ALLERGY THAT KNOW ONE IS AWARE OF. I'D REALLY LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYTHING ELSE HAS COME UP IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.

Hi,

i've been experiencing swelling only in the last day, i've never swelled before so i was extremely irritated. Anyway, it all started when one night i had huge stomach pains, i didn't eat all of the next day and then come the evening the swelling came.

I had a suspicion, since i'd been overseas to some asian countries and eaten really really badly that my body was forcing me/istself to detox. I looked online and so far that's the closest answer i can find. My doctor whom i'd gone to see three times has absolutely no clue. Other symptoms i had after that included: nausea, muscle pains, and really bad skin rashes and itches.

So..maybe it's that, you're swelling up because you're not eating well, the toxins are coming out through swelling. It's different for everyone, one person can get rashes from the toxins whilst the next can experience swelling.

Try eating REALLY good for a week and see if it gets better, or you can do what i somehow involuntarily did: fast ofr 2 days, a juice fast. If your swelling gets REALLY bad then you know its the toxins, if not...then my guess is wrong.

ok, hope that helps

It has something to do with the cells... its a rare disease ..a runner was running 14 miles a day and not drinking enough water.. when your over working your muscles, it tears -tiny tears, which releases something, (I cant remember how it was described to me or the name of it, but it starts with an R) and the byproducts of that tear has a reaction w/not being hydrated.. eats away at the muscle-if left untreated, you lose the feeling & use of your muscle thats affected.
