Hi!
For about a week my left inguinal node has swollen, is red and hurts to the touch. I've noticed an increase in my vaginal discharge as well. Should i be worried?
Look, you should certainly have this checked since the swollen node is a sign of an infection. Not many infection cause painful lymph nodes, so this is another reason to have it checked as soon as possible, even sooner.

There is a sexually transmitted disease that is not so common in USA but occurs mainly in the East and West Africa, India, Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam, South America, and the Caribbean. It is called Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) and it is caused by a specific strains of Chlamydia virus, serotypes L1, L2 and L3.

LGV is actually an infection of lymphatics and lymph nodes. Bacteria gets in through the breaks in the skin, however it can also cross the epithelial cell layer of mucous membranes. Bacteria then travel all the way to the lymphatic channels to multiply within mononuclear phagocytes of the lymph nodes it passes.
The most common symptoms are painful and swollen lymph nodes and there may be some draining from them. The symptoms, however, usually start with a little lump on either penis or vagina.
The infection is treated with antibiotics, it may spontaneously go into remission but you should definitely not wait for this because it may get complicated.
So, if you’ve been on holiday or know someone who has ( and yet you had sex with them), you know what to do. Although this may not be LGV, you should have it checked since you have two signs (the discharge and painful, swollen nodes) of an infection.
