I had a complicated abdominal surgery when over 50 tumors were removed and my ovaries that had ruptured were taken out..tiny piece by tiny piece. Literally, it almost killed me and took a good year to get over it. I have constant pain in my stomach area and fight through it to work out on a somewhat regular basis. I have gained 40 pounds in a year!!!! And am in the process of starving myself to get the weight off.....extra weight also makes me feel bad... and now my abdominal muscles will never be the same. I gave birth to 2 children and never had this problem before!! I am only 39 and am starting to have frequent bathroom urges as well.....good news is my hair is growing back and so are my fingernails since most of both fell out or off before I ever figured out what was wrong with me in the first place. I have an excellent doctor that I absolutely love!!! By the big question is..WHY IN THE HELL DOES INSURANCE AND THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY THINK IT IS A PRIORITY TO GIVE AN 80 YEAR OLD MAN AN ERECTION THAT CAN LAST 4 HOURS BUT CONSIDERS IT COSMETIC WHEN A PATIENT'S ABDOMINAL MUSCLES SEPARATE DUE TO HEALTH REASONS OR CHILD BIRTH OR OTHER SURGERIES AND EVENTUALLY YOU ARE PEEING ON YOURSELF AND IN PAIN AND AT AN UNHEALTHY WEIGHT AND UNUSUAL BODY PROPORTION (that makes all the other symptoms worse) IT'S FREAKING RIDICULOUS TO CONSIDER A HARD ON AS MEDICAL ISSUE BUT THIS AND SOME OTHER THINGS...NOT.... LIKE HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?????? Guess we know who makes those types of decisions...and I would also guess they aren't using their hard on pills to have sex with their wives because they are in pain, overweight and feel physically like c**p and emotionally and mentally like c**p....GIVES THEM A GOOD REASON TO GET MEDICINE AND SOMEONE HALF THEIR AGE... I swear people a lot of this stuff that needs fixing in our country is just common sense stuff and you should be as pissed off as I am about it..rectus abdominus diastasis...

Right there with you. The only ones that benefited from my surgery were the Dr. and Hospital that raped my Insurance Company. That is what is wrong with American Medicine!

I had Colon reconstruction, after having the Ostomy bag for 2 years. The wound healed by itself in 6 months. Now I have an Kardashian butt in my stomach. I'm having pain from a Hernia, they will be operating on me to fix the hernia. And fixing the wound and removal of fat on the sides. I have to wear a larger shirt to keep it hidden.

I know how you feel. I'm sure that you have a hernia, talk to you doctor about getting it fixed. They can make it look better.
I just posted on it

Sounds like getting a hernia after this type of surgery is pretty common. I had resection done in 2012 and had complications and in 2015 I found out that I had a hernia. My upper abdomen is sore and tender still.

For the solution to the butt cheek effect, keep reading...
I had Colon cancer in 2009 and had 12" of colon removed so I have the big long scar from upper abdomen to below belly button.
The solution to the butt cheek effect is to lose body fat, i started a diet and fitness program and went from 240lbs to 195lbs and am now sitting at approximately 10% body fat. The butt cheek effect is almost completely invisible. In a way the scar line almost makes your abs look better as it frames the centreline of your muscles.
There you have it, if you are lucky enough to be able to exercise its time to get busy, every pound of body fat you lose will not only make you healthier but will also make your belly look that much better.

Hi. I too had a front bum following 3 bowel ops to stoma formations and eventually reversal. My tummy was split down the middle from the torn muscles and I had ex tensile scarring. I just wanted the old me back to be able to fully move on. I decided to consult a plastic surgeon and I am now 3 days post tummy tuck. I'm hoping when the dressings come off ill see a big difference x

Please do! I had 12 inch colon resection 11/28/16 due to a large mass. It was cancer in situ. So thankful it did not come to life and spread. I'm having severe bloating, gas, diarrhea, some constipation, pain in left side and burning around insiciion. The pain is always there, just as before. I wonder if some is phantom pains and nerve pain. A part of my body is missing, so I don't expect complete normalcy, but I'm just easing past child bearing years and get questioned a lot about how far along I am. Doesn't matter what I eat or if I just sip drinks, I still puff up. Find myself buying over sized shirts to try and hide my belly.

I am 12 weeks out from my open colectomy. I was scheduled to have laparoscopic colon removal, but while I was in surgery, there where several complications leading to a transition to open surgery. a total of 21 inches of my colon was removed. I now have the original lapro scars, as well as an incision that starts about an in about my navel, and travels to my pubis. At one point in time, my belly button was actually detached and sutured back in place. Staples and a mesh sling are holding my intestines together, while dis solvable stitches hold my muscles in place and glue my skin. I was told the glue would assist in healing and give the scar a better overall look and feel, which it has done. I look now as though someone simply drew a straight, 12 inch line down my abdomen with a pink marker. I do however have much less definition in my abdomen, and it remains distended much of the time. I have read it to referred to as a "butt-like" appearance. I must say I am relived I am not the only one with this side-effect. It has been plaguing my self confidence quite a bit. I have always been a curvy woman, but I am not used to looking and feeling pregnant all the time. How can I tighten this area up? Im not even worried about the scar. I know it will fade, and if it doesn't I already have a great idea for a tattoo cover up.

I, too, had colon resection surgery, and one side of my abdomen sticks out. I hate it. But, what's just as bad is that every time that I lean over (specifically when I'm folding clothes and lean over the laundry basket), I can literally FEEL "something" tighten up and "twist," like very bad cramping. As soon as I straighten up, the feeling subsides. Anyone else have the same issue??
