Hi There,
I also have throat and chest flutters. I'm 30 years old, healthy and active. I don't suffer from anxiety or panic attacks so I don't believe it's associated with stress. I think I'm a little stressed out some of the time but nothing that requires medication. The flutters happen at the random times but lately it's been happening consistently and more frequent. It is scary but I've come to realize that I have no other symptoms besides the flutters. I would like to know why this is happening though. I'm not sure what to do. I've had an EKG, my thyriod checked and some blood work which are all normal. I do have sinus problems, allergies and I used to have asthma. It does seem like it could be my heart but I'm just not sure.
There has to be some other factor contributing to this like food or allergies, something. If anyone has ideas for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Hello to everyone and reading the post on here is very informative. I am a 36yr old female and I have suffered from anxiety since the age of 14.
I have never been on medication for my anxiety until the age of 36 and my experience with the meds was not good. I was put on Paxil and it only
worsen my anxiety. I have been on Lexapro10mg and Atavan5mg since March of 2009. I do visit a therapist once a week and it seems to help
me. I have for the past 5yrs, been having irregular heartbeats and major fluttering in my chest area and under left side of breast. I takes my
breath away when it does happen, i get a repitition of the episodes at least 8 or 10 times within an hour of the first episode. I feel like my heart
stops for at least a second and after the episode i will constantly check my pulse. I have had stress test, echo cardiogram, 24hr halter, 7 day
halter monitor, hormone test, and everything came back normal. I do notice that if i have not had enough sleep, poor eating habits, and on the move, I will tend to get the flutters in my chest.
It realy scares me so i will go into a state of panic!!! Although the flutters come and go, they tend to be more intense as I get older in age.
Does anyone feel what i feel? Are you afraid you are going to get a heart attack?? Please reply to this post as i am desperate for some help.

Although, no matter what any one say's you can't believe its anxiety it is. I know it is and I still can't believe what it does, it is a dreadful misunderstood subject, anxiety can cause every single thing that you can feel with no apparent reason.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this. It feels like there's a lump in my throat, and even though nothing's there i can feel it go down and come back up when I swallow, and when it comes back up my heart flutters and I feel like I can't breathe. I hate this feeling, and I just needed to know what to expect to hear when I go to the doctor.
That is crazy because I am 30 on Lexapro and lorazepam for panic disorder/and anxiety and I experience the same things that's why I'm on the computer right now to get answers. So I might not have the answer for you but know your not alone I hope that gives you some comfort because knowing your out there going through the same things as me gives me some comfort and I don't feel so crazy. I too get the flutter in my chest, the gasping for air and I've done MRI's ekgs and it all come up normal.
I am currently under a cardiologist here in london. I have had all the usual stuff, pangs, aches, breathing difficulties, flutters in the throat and all seem to coincide with anxiety.
It is so easy to dispel anxiety as it is considered a non physical phenomenom, well that is rubbish.
Let me assure all of you that anxiety causes real physical symptoms through chemical imbalances, it can cause globus (lump in throat caused by tightened muscles) and 'doom' feelings.
Please be assured that i have had echo's, stress tests, ECG's (EKG's for resident Americans) and just waiting for my holter results, but for f**ks sake we all need to get a grip, once we do that many of our symptoms will subside and those left will be as a result of underlying panic which arent real, but convincing ourselves is difficult, so good luck people, bear with it and realise that although you feel alone MILLIONS are feeling exactly the same.

I had anxiety for months, been to doctors, hospital, and was introduced to hypnotherepy and wow now I feel great, it was heaven sent to me. I never beleived in hypnosis but it took all the systomps away, I can drive, be in large crowds, and feel great about myself and do things I never did before, it did wonders for me and my relationship. I go to open meetings at for hypnosis and it is fun and you meet other people just like you.
I am a 37 year old female with chest fluttering as well. Mine started at age 30. I have had 2 EKGs and a halter monitor, thyroid check and bloodwork. The first doc said I was having panic attacks and shoved a perscription in my face for zoloft. After a half of a pill, I thought I was going crazy. Pharmacist said I was allergic to it, stop taking it. Second doc ran a test for heliopolori bacteria, which came back negative. After 2 days, the fluttering continued constantly. He perscribed the pills to treat the stomach bacteria. I felt like a million bucks. A year later, the fluttering came back. I was home alone when my heart started racing and the fluttering was nonstop. I called the ambulance. They hooked me up to another monitor, which said I was fine too. Since then, I have them around the same time as PMS. About a weeks worth, then no fluttering until the next month. I started going to a chiropractor 3 times a week and the fluttering stopped. I moved out of state and it all started again. I have the hard thump at times, and then the fluttering. I'm wondering if it's a hiatal hernia, because if you bend over, they cause fluttering or pressure, which I have. Most times my heart rate is fine, when the fluttering starts, but it does take your breath away. Just be sure to go to more than one doctor, although I've been to three and they all say Im fine. I haven't been to the chiropractor to see if it helps, but I have alot of back problems too, which triggers nerves in your chest. Good luck to you all.
HI;
Dont worry; if you really worry it could be a deadly disease; i suggest you meet your doctor and tell him about your worry.
He could suggested certain tests like MRI or CT scan to completely rule out any fatal disease.
I am sure once these tests come up negative your anxiety will automatically go away!

Please, please, please stop living with your panice attacks. It makes me so sad when I hear all of this because it doesn't have to be this way. I am here to tell you that it is all in your mind. 11 years ago I ended up with panic attacks for no apparent reason. I was brought to the hospital by ambulance and everything. I even had the dizzies for over a month where you feel like you are a little spacey (almost like you are drunk, kind of hard to explain) and it was so horrible.
I am a very healthy person both mentally and physically so I couldn't undersand what was happening to me. Long story short, I couldn't believe that this was how my life was going to be now so I got on the internet and joined a panic attack forum (that no longer exists). It literally saved my life. After reading thousands upon thousands of posts of people that all had my symptoms, I realized that it was only panic attacks. That it was all in my mind and that I could stop it at any moment. Additionally I read a book that everyone who has panic attacks should read, it's called An End To Panic and it takes you through exercises. Once you go through them, you realize that, it's almost impossible "not to breathe" and that you are not going to pass out or die. If you have had a doctor tell you that they can't find anything, you are probaby experiencing panic attacks.
Please get on the internet and find out as much as you can about panic attacks so that you will know that you are not going to die and that it's all in your mind and that you can literally just stop it by taking a deep breath and saying "I'm not going to die, I'm not going to give into this," and then just continue with what you were doing.
I know it's weird because they come on when you are doing things relaxing like watching TV or sleeping but that is what panic attacks are, they come on when there shouldn't be any anxiety.
Please try to get off the drugs now and start doing the above. Within one week, I was over all of this. Believe me, I couldn't even go out of my house, I was so scared and that was totally unlike me. It is a weird thing but once you have it, you will have more sympathy for others. Please pass this along so that others do not have to go through this as well.

i :(
About 6 years ago I was suffering from dizzy spells and shaky limbs, I had tests including a brain scan and all were clear. My doctor insisted it was General Anxiety Disorder. I decided to go on the medication even though I did not consider myself anxious or stressed. I was on Effexor for about a year. The only side effect was an effect on my libido. The symptoms cleared but possibly would have anyway after that amount of time.
After a bout of food poisoning and severe bleeding I now have the same symptoms back again. It could be that my illness has triggered the anxiety but I would rather not go on the med again. It is getting so bad that I may have no choice. I have trawled the internet for other possible causes such as thyroid or inner ear problems but I know what my doc will diagnose. Don't know what to do.
Good luck everyone.

I think it does have to do with food allergys.I have been going threw the same thing for yrs. I'am 44 an have suffered from depressIon an anxiety. So I know what that feels like. But when I eat fast food ' like burger king ' sasage egg biscuit or fast food Mexican or Chinese I get bad headaches and fluttery chest an red flushed face. An I feel like I have a hang over from hell. I have heard its something in the fast food to preserve it. It's gotta be something like this. When I was young I could drink alcohol. But I got allergic to it after the yrs went by. Now I feel like foods are doing it to me now. If anyone would like to talk about this

I have had the same problem for years! Every couple months I convince myself I am dying and force my doctor to see me. (In my imagination) I've diagnosed myself with lymphoma, renal failure, stroke, breast cancer, skin cancer I've had cat scans ekgs bloodwork holter moniters....all normal. Its true that anxiety manifests its self in many forms (heart rythms, numbness in face, vomiting) and until you realize how your anxiety is showing itself it can be very scary! Its helpful for me to take deep breaths and remind myself of that. DON"T LOOK UP YOUR SYMPTOMS ON THE INTERNET!!!! It will only make you panic. When in doubt call your doctor.Perhaps therapy could be helpful? It helps a great deal to have a second party hear how your feeling and keep your emotions in check. You'll be ok ;-) I'm stll here after all.
I'm so glad I found this topic. I have been dealing this for a while. I feel my heart skip a beat, (palpitation) then I feel a pain right in my throat. It's been driving me crazy. I thought I was having a panic attack. I take half a Xanax and I feel better. I had gone to the cardiologist and all they found was that I had a heart murmur. Lately, it's been happening more, so I made another appt. with the cardiologist. This is not a pleasant thing to go through.
