I had a sore tongue at the back (a bit like a bad sore throat)and earache mainly in the right ear then, what looked and felt like ulcers on the back/rightside of my tongue (treated wrongly for oral thrush,) then over a week numbness to my tongue and lips and a further week on loss of taste buds on my tongue, all this eventually which over another week lead to loss of right side facial muscles and feeling, speaking and looking like I had just come out of the dentist having loads of local (which I hadn't!) I couldn't talk without slurring my words spitting everywhere and having unexplained dizziness when I got up and down or moved around suddenly!
After backwards and forwards to my surgery I finally saw my GP who immediately sent me to an ENT doctor at hospital.
They diagnosed Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, put me on a course of anti viral medication and then a week later a 5 day course of steriods.
Truly amazing the steriods did most of the trick for me, I still have some recurring tongue numbness and loss of taste and slight muscle facial loss, but, most earache has gone, including most of the facial paralysis.
I am awaiting outcome of MRI results next week and hope that some more short course of steriods make knock it into touch.
Will let you know in a week if they decide on anymore treatment of action

Thank you very much for posting about your diagnosis and treatment. I personally find it very interesting and helpful to hear about others' health problems because they do crop up--sometimes hearing about one person's problem helps offer insight into another's issues, so I think it's very helpful what you're doing. How has recovery gone for you? It looks like the steroids have mostly blown away the issues, but it would be helpful to hear some more details on that. Glad to hear you're doing better!
