Yes I'm 19 and had a tonsillectomy a week ago now and I experienced the exact same tongue pain. It does get a lot better, although I do experience some aching in the right side of my tongue. Hopefully it will completely disappear soon.

Hello. This is my 3rd day after my tonsilectomy/adenoidectomy. The pain gets WORST day by day. I have excruciating tongue pain...it hurts worst than my throat. It's hurts really bad to swallow. The pain meds help a little bit but can make me feel very nauseated. My ENT doctor said my tonsils were FULLED with tonsil stones. My left ear was hurting on the 2nd day, now today my right ear hurts.

Haha. I am a 15 year old female who quite frankly was wondering the same question. I was 120 at the start of my surgery. It's day 5 and I'm 115. Hopefully this lasts.

i just turned 15 September 4 and September 14th I got my tonsils taken out. I'm on day two and I completely agree with you, I also have a slashed on the left side of my tongue and I feel it's a bit more painful right now then swallowing, yesterday I saw it and it didn't hurt as much but how come today it hurts more, you'd think its because all the drugs from getting the surgery is wearing off but wouldn't my throat be even worst? My throat was pretty bad last night and couldn't sleep, but today it's my tongue and my throat (more so my tongue)

I am six days post op. I never knew that it would hurt so bad everything hurts, and I might smell. I am a 32 year old lady. I am already my ideal weight so after not being able to eat my weight hasn't changed. I had to go to the er twice bc i couldn't drink. I don't think I ever want to deal with this kind of pain again.

Wow. I just had tonsillectomy 6 day ago and I'm so glad for this board. It's after 4am and I'm up with pain. My throat, tongue and ears still hurt a lot. Glad to hear it's normal. I've been threw in up for the past 3 days and light-headed. Is that normal? Wondering if it's normal side effects or if I should visit doc? Please advise.

Just had my surgery December 1st.
THREE THINGS I HAVEN'T SEEN IN ANY TOPIC FORUM I SHOULD GET:
1. Orajel, your tongue is going to do horrible things.
2. Baby tooth brush, you'll thank me for this the first time you have to brush.
3. Chocolate mousse by Jello...I found was much easier to go down than pudding, due it being light and airy.
I've had about 7 or 8 surgeries and about 6 hospital procedures done, ranging from cameras internally to having to walk again with my right knee with a 5 inch scar to removing a breast tumor and having a reduction.
To be honest with you all, I would much rather go through those again, then have this surgery.
I sleep, at most, 3 hours at a time, I usually wake up every 45 mins because I'm CONSTANTLY spitting out phlegm. Builds up and I go through a bottle or glass a day of spit and it's horrible and smells awful.
The headache and ear pain are the WORST days 3-5 then, once the scab falls off, your body will handle it different ways than others. Some will just fall in pieces. Mine was build of up phlegm, so when it felt off my stomach and chest started making weird noises and all of a sudden I just threw up, right where I was, had to have someone come clean it up, thankfully all liquid, because you can't bend over much, because 3-10 they're afraid of hemorrhaging, so then when I got to the bathroom, I started throwing up probably a pint of dark green phlegm in the sink. I was choking on it couldn't breathe and it just would hang out my mouth...so I still have the other scab and I'm fearfully waiting for that to happen again.
OH my taste buds could take up to 3 months to go back to normal from nerve damage, because they have to clamp down your tongue, and maneuver it out of the way. Lately I can kind of control the throat pain, but my tongue is insane. I have had to go buy 2 different kinds of orajel and they only last like 2 hours, the severe kind..because they had to do extra long surgery on my tongue because I threw up in the middle of them operating,it also took 45 mins longer than the usual 30-45 mins.
Make sure the person helping you, understands, and mercifully helps you. You will at times be unapologetically moody. I hope others had a much better time than I did. Just hope the person taking care of you has a tolerance for gross, and a sense of humor, you BOTH need one.

Please tell me if you ever figured out what this was? I'm suffering with it right now, I'm on day 8 post op recovery, my tonsil area is healing well but suddenly this laid on my tongue in unbearable! It's exactly what you've described above!!

I have found day 4 onwards the worst. Im on day 6 and nobody mentioned this ear jaw and tongue pain. My advice stay on top of meds, so much easier to handle when dosed up. it's the lack of sleep that I can't deal with, every time I drop off I feel like I stop breathing and wake up choking. Pain relief on time helps. Slept 4 hours in 6 days. That's in itself is soul destroying. Just keep telling myself be worth it in the long run.

Today is day 11 and my throat is still sore but tollerable. Food that I can eat tastes weird to me. The back sides of my tounge hurt real bad but the worst is my ears. it feels like i have had an ear infection since my tonsillectomy. I know I have lost weight. just in time for bathing suit season (trying to look on the bright side). All i really want is to chug a glass of water and eat a sandwich. So hungry.

Hi, I'm currently experiencing the exact same thing. I'm on day 6 my tonsils healing quite well, I'm still taking my painkillers every 3 hours and would not be able to stop taking them however, there managing the pain for my throat just a little sore to swallow I'm unable to eat ANYTHING just drink. My tongue is by far the wost pain I've ever experienced it has one big yellow/white scar a few dents in the side and the pain is unreal. I've been gargling salt water which gives me 5 min comfort but apart from that I don't know what to do any suggestions??? Pains not getting any easier In fact I'd say each day I wake up it's worse.
I wish I'd done the research online prior to having the tonsillectomy I would of ratherrd have tonsillitis on a monthly basis than be in this pain. Any suggestions to stop the tongue pain plzzz??????
