Hey man did your chest pain ever got better from the pneumonia? What was your treatments

I feel you. I'm on day 5 and I feel like I've gotten better, because the pain was so intense Day 3 and 4. I've questioned life several times these last few days and I cannot wait for this ordeal to be over. My biggest problem is the swelling of my tongue because it hurts to talk, swallow and even move my mouth and tongue!

It was worth it in the end. The tongue pain was horrific and I felt like it would never go away. Taste eventually comes back and so does your appetite. Long term the 2 weeks of pain is better than the rest of your life suffering from one thing or another.

I am currently day 7 post-op, and I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to share my experience (since I basically read for 3 straight days prior to my surgetry and appreciated everyone's experiences). I am a 42 yo male.
Surgery Day: Everything went as expected. In to my room at 12:30, back home in bed at 3:30. Started on my pain medications immediately to stay ahead of the pain. Set up alarms on my phone for the narcotics and ibuprofen schedules (make sure you wake up in the middle of the night to take your meds...iF you can sleep). I was able to eat some applesauce and chicken broth, then laid down in bed with my ice water. Rest of the night wasn't bad. I wear a CPAP, and was able to turn the humidifier on it all the way up hoping it would help with dryness in the throat. It lulled me into a false sense of security.....
Post-op Day 1: Wake up on the morning, still not too bad. About the same pain level as yesterday. Switched from ice water to making a water/ice slurree with the ninja blender. Best. Idea. Ever. I pretty much lived on these days 3-6. Had 1 bowl of Campbell's chicken noodle soup that day. This is where I learned that soft noodles like to get stuck in the pockets where your tonsils used to be, and are a pain to get out. This is also what cause me to do some more reading and start gargling luke-warm salt water 6 times a day. Pretty uneventful day. Most of these days I pretty much only slept from 1-2PM in the afternoon and then from 2AM-6AM. I'm not getting much sleep.
Post-op Day 2: Holy hell. I wake up to pain so intense, I expected to see exploded firecrackers all over the bed, because I assumed that was the only thing that cold make my mouth/tongue/throat/ears/teeth hurt that bad. Ice packs, constant ice slurrees, meds. Over and over. It wasn't until 4PM that I was able to start managing the pain. At this time, I called my Dr and requested to be switched off the liquid hydrocodone (7.5/375) to something stronger. He put me on Hydromorphone 7.5 tabs. I preferred these better because there's no acetaminophen in them, so there's less a worry with your liver. By about midnight, I had the pain fully under control, and got a couple hours of sleep. No food was eaten this day.
Post-op Day 3: Pretty much day 2 on repeat. Similar pain in the morning, took until about 10AM to get the pain under control. No food was eaten this day.
Post-op Day 4: Remember day 2, the firecracker in the mouth pain morning? Day 4 morning pain made day 2 feel like a warm hug. I can't even explain the pain. The top of my tongue was completely solid, which was strange since I'm drinking 300+oz of water (my ice slurrees) every day. I couldn't open or close my jaw. I couldn't swallow. My only guess is that my CPAP machine wasn't blowing humidified air for some reason that night, and instead was blowig straight dry air down my throat all night. Not good. It took a good hour of gargling with salt water to moisten up my mouth to even be able to take my first sip of water of the day (and my pain meds). And again, it took until abuot 3PM before I was able to manage the pain. No food was eaten this day.
Post-op Day 5: Not as bad as day 4, but pain still worse than days 1-3. Nothing eventful this day, other than pain. No food was eaten this day.
Post-op Day 6: Pretty much the same as day 5. No food was eaten this day. Weakness was really starting to set in after not eating food for ~5 days.
Post-op Day 7: I'm hoping that's a light at the end of the tunnel I'm seeing, because the pain this morning was SIGNIFICANTLY less than day 6. Still a lot of pain, especially in the tongue, but nothing compared to the past week. Ate chicken noodle soup again (I forgot about the noodles that like to play hide 'n go seek in your tonsil holes...), and am drinking Earl Grey tea with honey, cooled down to luke-warm.
Well, that's where I sit as of today. I actually thought I would be able to return to work tomorrow, but there's not a chance that will happen. Maybe in another day or 2 (at least after I'm off the narcotics).
Hope you enjoyed!

Question? I have not been able to eat nothing not even hello or Popsicle, water makes my ears hurt really bad but IT'S the only thing I've been able to consume. Why does everything burn when I eat it?

I am 34 and just had them taken out may 25th 1 & 2day was all sleep n jello but as the days got more into it ,it got worse, day 3 I woke up ear sores so bad it was pain meds , nausea med and sleep, I tried to eat and felt like I was eating glass and felt like the scab was ripping off my throat anytime I ate or drank something. I'm now on day 6 and I have starved my self for 3 days cause I can not handle pain nor deal with the thought of a scab coming up with the food. Day 4 I was up all night choking on scabs that was trying to come up but wouldn't cause I couldn't drink so my throat was dry. I recommend water water water, it is worse when u can't eat or drink. Anyone that's going to do this prepare yourself for allot of pain and discomfort. I feel like its worse than child birth . have a blessed day

Hi, I'm 22 and just had my tonsils out 5 days ago. I have a very low pain tolerance so I was terrified. The first 2 days were a breeze, just felt like I has strep (which I'm very used to). I am on liquid hydrocodone and it has been working well for me. My doctor told me to start on liquid Tylenol every 6 hours yesterday (day 4) in place of one of my hydro treatments. I, trying to get off prescription pain meds so I could get back to school, went off the hydro cold turkey instead. I had never been in so much pain than about 20 min ago. DON'T GO OFF YOUR PRESCRIBED PAIN MEDS. I have found that keeping a "spit cup" has been the best thing for all of the extra phlegm and mucus I'm producing. Not going to lie, it's nasty sometimes because you will spit up some scabs with the spit. It helps with the pain at night though. I have no appetite but need to eat to take my hydro. Ramen, butter noodles, cut up shrimp, jello, pudding, milkshakes, applesause, and popsicles habe all helped. Eating shaved ice or a popsicle before bed helps numb the pain long enough for me to fall asleep. I have only been able to sleep about 2 hours at a time, but any sleep is good sleep for me. Hope this helps someone. Also, not talking literally at all has helped me tons! It's not worth the extra strain. The pain is NOT too much, just very annoying and disheartening considering I have to be in class no later than Wed (in 3 days). Hoping it goes away by then so I can speak to my professors. Good luck everyone, it will all be worth it!!

Not a good way to loose weight. Proper diet and exercise are the only thing that safely works. After having procedures try to resume healthy eating habits unless you need a special diet.

22 F on day 6 here. My tongue is swollen and is still sore. It was actually black and blue in the middle the first couple days after surgery. I have been brushing my teeth carefully and tried to get the white stuff off my tongue. That hurt as there were bumps underneath. I decided to use mouthwash today as I can't stand having foul breath, but I did not gargle it in the back of my throat. In addition to drinking tons of water, I called my doctor and was able to get magic mouthwash that I can use every 4-6 hrs as needed to numb my entire mouth. That has been helpful for me. As far as the tongue pain, I guess it is common but I was not made aware of this pre-tonsillectomy. Apparently hurting your tongue is not a concern for the surgeon. So looking forward to the end of recovery!
PS. Anyone else that has had problems with building up a tolerance to the pain meds? I'm taking percocet and it is becoming less efficient

I"m so glad to read all the comments here. I was in such a great pain and everybody dismissed me like I'm just a complainer. After 2 weeks I was still not able to eat right. Now at week 4, I read all of these comment about the tongue, I have the same experience. Tongue is white, swollen and very painful, like someone tried to pull it out .

I’d like to start off by thanking everyone for their comments. I don’t know how I would cope without reading other peoples similar experiences.
I am on day 5 after my tonsillectomy. I am female, 26 years old. This has been the worst experience of my life!! The day of the surgery was pretty decent, i guess it was the Anathesia.
Day 2-3 the throat pain was excruciating! Swallowing was the scariest feeling. I had a ton of saliva and phlegm. To the point where I was wheezing when I breathed. But was so scared to cough so I didn’t provoke bleading.
Till today, my tongue, gums and jaw are in agony. I cannot open my mouth more than about 1inch. I can’t speak. My tongue feels like one big canker sore towards the back and on the sides. I can’t even open my mouth to see my scabs.
Forget sleep, I haven’t slept longer than 1.5 hours in a row. Every time I wake up the pain is 10 x worse. This is the worst experience of my life. I’ve been taking morphine (liquid, thank god) every 4 hours, but it only takes the edge off. I am praying I see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.
This whole experience is more frustrating than anything.
As for my diet, it’s been cold broth, tons of sorbet, and cold vitamin water.
Does anyone have any remedies for the tongue pain or stiff jaw? So far for the jaw I’ve been massaging it with natural oils and tried chewing gum.
