Hello! My friends sister suffers from diabetes. I was spending a weekend at their place when the parents were away. On Saturday afternoon she suddenly started trembling, and crying. Later she explained that she even got dizzy and had tingles around the mouth or tongue. I didn’t want to ask more but would like to know why this is happening.

When the blood level gets too low in people who suffer from diabetes, they experience such symptoms. They can get confused, drowsy, trembly, dizzy and have blurred vision. In that moment they need to take some sugar or a sweet drink immediately, followed by some carbohydrate food such as a meal or snack of fruit or bread. If not treated quickly, they may lose consciousness, in which case an ambulance must be called.
