i have just lost my german shepard, Thorn, to the above cancer. He was my best friend. So loyal, loving and with such charecter. He was diagnosed this condition just 4-5 weeks ago after i was told firstly he just had a bad infection. he was just 8yrs and 10 months. He was just prescribed daily doses of metacam as steroids messed him up somewhat. I keep torturing myself that there must have been something i could have done to avoid him coming into contact with this cancer and that maybe i could have done more for him or that i let him go too soon. On the 24th of december after 2 days of pain he was bright, enthusiastic, playful and active. Over a few weeks he even put on a few kilo going up to 40 kilo after a period of losing weight going down to 32 kilo. The future didnt look too bleak. however come the 27th of december he was vommiting and breathing heavily and finding it difficult to swallow. I was advised by my vet the kind thing to do was to let him go. When the vet started to administer the drug Thorn moaned so dreadfully and fought to get away, he must have known what was happening. did i do what was right, could he have had extra months to enjoy. Could i have done anything. I am in bits. Thankyou.
