i just had a tonsilectomy, andenoidectomy, turbonate reduction surgery about 4 days ago. The recovery is pretty horrible. Im on tylenol with codine and all it seems to do it put me to sleep which kills my throat when i wake up. I've been drinking plenty of water which seems to help and eaten lemon ice. I have no appetite to eat but i do feel very hungry at times. Im really afraid of the scabs coming off... what should i expect?
My major concern is that i will being going away in about 3 weeks on a singing competition.....im worried i wont be able to sing and have my voice back.... i can barely speak now... im soo worried. how long does it take for people to be able to sing again.... or even speak normally?
i had my tonsilectomy about 2 weeks ago, i'm fine now, but i was freaking out as well cos the whole recovery process kept dragging on and on and i was in so much pain. it does get better. for me it got better on day 10. it was very sudden too, out of no where, i didn't NEED painkillers. good luck with your recovery, when you feel that you can eat, EAT, will help to clear the "scabs" that in your throat. good luck

o.O I'm on day 7 post tonsillectomy! Argh! After having my tonsils out last week - after coming around the nurse gave me 3 lots of morphine which took the pain away for most of the day- but knocked me right dizzy when i wanted to go home! I stayed in over night in hospital and got home the next day- it wasn't until day 3 the pain hit and has been getting worse ever since. The pain comes and goes but is worse at 3.00am- having read other posts- its likely that my throat is not got enough fluid/salvia in it and gets dry and aggravated. I do hope that today is the worse day and its going to get better from here on in- the area of my throat where the tonsils were was very white when the op was first done- I can see it gradually healing but the pain gets worse. I am eating as normal and drinking lots- pain killers are my best friend but I do hope that today is a turning point and its going to get better. smoothies and fruit juice are not good to have - the stinging pain it brings it not worth it!

I was slightly relieved to hear from a colleague from my wife's work that having your tonsils out is on a parr with having a baby!! least having a baby is not a long ordeal of 7 days!!!

I've lost some weight by not eating the usual junk food that I normally have! Ice cream has been great and also milk which cools the throat and smoothes the pain in the throat. I have pain in my ears and I know its not ear ache its referred pain from the tonsil areas- the left side seems to be worse than the right.

I know what is on TV now early morning- but recommended that you get some DVDs that you haven't watched and a book that you haven't read. I've completed call of duty, read a book, and watched lots of TV- here's to actually getting to day 10 and HOPEFULLY being better enough to go out and get my new iphone!!
