I wouldn't say EXTREMELY painful. Had mine out at age 54. 2 weeks of more than normal discomfort, but drinking lots and lots of water really got me through. Not one for meds, ditched them after 2 weeks. Best decision I could have made. No more bronchitis or respitory infections. Hacking cough gone and so is the bad breath. Should have done it YEARS ago!

Day 8 after surgery age 51 1/2. PREVIOUS symptoms: Last 5-7 years ear aches/ringing; jaw aches/teeth aching ; low grade sore throat; Last 25 years tonsil stones, sore throats, itchy throat or on rare occasion unable to speak (1-2 times in last 25 years) duration 1-5 minutes.

Pain symptoms after surgery:

Day 1 - no problem feel can go back to work
Day 2 - did not sleep much throat dried out, who fed me a habanero pepper?
Day 3 - can't swallow without feeling razorblades
Day 4 - tried VERY HOT tea one sip at a time RELIEF!! But, can't poop! Due to drugs OMG need stool softner and clear laxative regiment
Day 5 - kind of hungry have lost 8 pounds, drink water and tea all the time. Tried various foods but salty or texture foods is not worth it (like pain of being kicked in the lower stomach)
Day 6 - Cloraseptic spray and non sugar based lozenges help, but nothing including the liquid pain medication takes it away for long) trying biotene mouth wash, but not much help
Day 7 - Scabs? Not sure but still yellow on tonsil area, drink water all time, set alarm if forget at night to take medicines
Day 8 - more of the same not sure if will ever end

Egg soup recipie- two eggs scrambled 1/2 large tortilla, 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth ( low salt ) make soupy. Cook till eggs done and tortilla mushy Very easy to eat and chew

Good luck and good health to all it can be done ( I think )

Current tolerable diet:
Egg soups, vanilla pudding, cream of wheat, HOT tea, ICE COLD water

Current untouchable diet:
Overly salty soups, foods that have texture, Luke warm drinks, citrus foods or drinks, anything I have to chew much.

Taking medication 20 minutes prior to end helps to create less pain,

Waiting for day 10-14 to come, praying that this helps with previous mentioned symptoms

I'm 51 yr old female diabetic. I got my tonsils out on 12/21/16 today I finished day 12 and I still feel horrible !!! I am now starting to get emotional when I see my husband eating this meals lol
I live off of room temperature Water, Protein drink, Egg drop soup, cough drops, over the counter liquid pain meds. Only thing positive is in the past 12 days I have lost 10lbs :)

I still sleep in the living room on a lazy boy chair I can't yet lay down in a bed with out pain. Night time are the worst for me ... the fear of falling asleep because I know when I wake up I will have a dry mouth and the pain will be horrible. I am starting to taste the burnt skin in the back of my throat. (( can't stress enough make sure you are drinking plenty if water.

Must haves ::
Plenty of Water
Pain meds
Cepacol cough drops
Neck Pillow
