Healed at two weeks? Well today I have two weeks. I feel 90% composed, almost to normality. I still need my few little scabs to fall off. Also I had a adenoidectomy and my nose gives off a bad bad breath. Only my nose THANK GOD. But Yes I can say you can eat almost anything in the 2 weeks mark. Except chile & citrus foods. (well me) Hopefully time will pass fast for all of us!
Wishing you ALL the best!

I agree with your statement about being nervous! I'm scheduled to have my tonsils removed 12/12. My question to everyone is what type of procedure did you have, were your tonsils removed with scapel, harmonic blade, laser, etc?

o.O Well, I am a little over 2 weeks out(Nov2) and everything went very well although I got a severe case of "thrush" therefore it put a bit of a kink in the entire process. The thrush is healing well after two rounds of Diflucan, but I have a problem. I don't have any taste! Don't give me anything with sugar-blah-bluk! Oh my, I thought this was due to the thrush and it very well could be. I did some research to help me out on this, and the taste buds replenish every two weeks, we only have 10,000. So I am keeping hopeful about this but was wondering if anyone is having the same "problem" and I mean "problem". Thanks for any response.

I had my tonsils out 3 days ago and am breastfeeding, so am not using any pain meds other than extra strength tylenol. Maybe try two of those every 4 hours and the other thing I love is gargling with Tylenol sore throat medicine (blue). It numbs everything. I try not to swallow much, just swish it around and swallow a tiny bit to coat the back of my throat. For the lady with the son, you might try that (or maybe this post is too late for you, but for someone else it might help.) I definitely did not know how slow and long the recovery was or I never would have done this with two little kids! Oh, well. it will be over soon - just 7 more days of hell to go, I hope! :-)

I had a tonsillectomy on 11/21 (Thanksgiving was taste-less), and I feel fine except for the throat, which hurts to swallow anything, and my stomach, which is what hurts when I get dehydrated. The dehydration landed me in the clinic Friday night for an I.V. of three baggies of saline mixed with an anti-nausea medicine - Zofran, I think. The doc there said the best way to handle the pain/swallowing issue is to literally hold Chloraseptic in one hand & Gatorade in the other...spray, chug...spray, chug.
I checked this with my ENT today; he said to be careful that the throat isn't so numb that something other than clear liquid ends up in my lungs. I laughed - well, more like wheezed - and told him that I'd prefer not to have anything other than air in my lungs. I also told him that I haven't recovered beyond Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup yet, to which his reply was that the noodles can be dangerous. He did say that I have no infections & that my throat is looking good, but the pain is holding on "unusually long."
The most frustrating part about all of this is that I feel like a big wiener for not being able to bounce back from a child's surgery within two weeks. I know it's supposed to be harder on adults, but that offers far less consolation than Chloraseptic. 8-|

>:( Hey everyone, I just had my tonsills and my uvula removed on the fifth and have been pretty miserable to say the least... can't wait till I can look back at all of the this and say it was all worth it. Hardest part right now is knowing that I MUST drink water, but not being able to do so because of the rediculous pain that swallowing puts me in. Hopefully there is someone out there in the middle of their recovery that I can chat with on this forum so we can help eachother through it.

Hi all. I'm on my fifth day of recovery after my tonsillectomy, performed because of chronic tonsillitis and peritonsillar abcesses.
I've read a few posts that talk about thrush in the back of the throat after surgery. What is thrush? What are the symptoms? Is it painful? Since the surgery, the back of my throat has been white and I spit yellow phlegm. The best way to describe it's appearance is that it looks like a seared tuna steak (white on the surface and deep red underneath). Is this normal? Unfortunately, it's the weekend and my surgeon is not in . . .

I am on day 7 of my tonsillectomy which was because of chronic tonsllitis and when they went in he found a piritonsillar absess, which is making for a fun recovery. I lost 13 pounds and to add to the misery my 13 y/o son got his removed with me, this was his second removal. He is not fairing as well as he did the first time around at age 4. I hope theses scabs start coming off soon. All I want to be able to do is drink water without feeling like I wish i was dead. 2 days after surgery my son and I took a trip back to the ER because of dehydration, pain and swelling, they gave him a run of anti-inflammatory and a saline IV which helped him turn the corner I on the other hand was admitted for 2 days because I looked like I had elephantitis and was NOT going home to TRY and swallow some stupid pain med which didn't even touch the pain. Bring on the MORPHINE!! And I would suggest that to ANYONE who asked - if you hurt so bad and you CANNOT swallow march your rear right to the ER and tell them you are at a level 10 in pain and you are ready to commit a homicide. Hopefully in a week from now i will be laughing because this all seems surreal. I thought I would be back to work on Wed. not a freakin chance. I work in a school a breeding ground for infections - sorry you can keep em. To everyone on the mend - this is a great forum I am now a little optimistic and I can be realistic about the pain and duration. I will NEVER believe another surgeon again - oh 7 days you'll be back to normal. Up yours.

Hi! I was looking for some posts about using chloraseptic spray post-tonsillectomy and came across this forum. You guys are really scaring me, I hope I am just lucky here. It is now 5 days after my surgery and my biggest complaints so far have been sinus drainage (can't blow, snort, sniff, hock, or cough, what do you do) and jaw pain. I had always had really severe pain with strep throat, so I guess I was expecting worse. I am taking the pain medicine of course, but I feel almost normal now. Am I in for a surprise? Is it going to get a lot worse or am I just lucky? I refuse to eat anything more than soft foods so I don't set myself back. Should I expect a setback anyway? :-D

I am 20 and I am on Day 5 of my recovery. My advice to anyone to anyone considering a T & A is do it...its not that bad. I had my surgery, went home, then got rushed to the ER after I puked up a couple units of blood and blacked out. They took away all of my pain meds at the ER and told me I would have to rough the rest of my recovery. I thought it would be hell but it isn't bad at all. Drink lots of sprite during your recovery (ginger ale left a nasty taste in my mouth) and avoid dairy products (thickens your saliva). Start off eating popsicles and taking lots of fluids. Eat mashed potatoes and step yourself up to soup or macaroni. The more you push yourself and force yourself to chew the easier the healing process seems to be. My only real problem is when I wake up. My throat is dry and painful. I promise you the pain isnt as bad as everyone on here makes it out to be. Just go for it, it will be worth it in the end

Hi everyone, I had my tonsils removed on the 12th of april. today is the 23th. and I still feeling a lot of pain on my throat, specially after waking up. What I do to take the pain away is gargle cool water and after I can handle drinking some water without the terrible pain, I take 2 pills of Oxicodone. After 5 minutes, I feel way better, even able to eat something, like oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bread, or whatever that isn't salty, spicy or to sweet. I really would like to know how others are doing after having theirs tonsils out. Good luck.

Hi
I got my tonsils out yesterday and am home already but have only started hurting now. And i dont mean little pain i mean big ugly pain here.
I didnt mind that the other people in my hospital room kept asking me how i was or the fact that the night nurse was a complete battle axe, its just that nobody told me that this was going to hurt this much!!!!
My tongue is swollen and my face looks like a stung dogs bum.
I have been told that this is only my first hurdle and now i feel like crying.
Someone please tell me this is going to get better.

I'm on day 5 and am at the absolutely-excruciating-ear-and-throat-pain stage.
I hate my ENT. He wants me eating normal food (toast, pizza, lasagne were some suggestions he gave my mum) and my mum is enforcing it.... this is like a living hell.
He also said he didn't want me to be lying around (because apparently "I'm not sick, I'm in pain") so my dear mother has been dragging me out for walks and to the library.
This is seriously ridiculous and I am an emotional basket case. She says that I can't be in that much pain if I don't want to do what the doctor says for a speedy recovery... despite the fact that I point her towards forums like this which suggest my ENT is the only stupid guy who thinks that trying to live normally is possible after a tonsillectomy.
This sucks.
