I had mine out last year and I know what you are going through. The pain will go away. I ate nothing but ice cream for a good 2 1/2 weeks, thats all I could eat. And one doctor visit included him sticking a giant needle in my mouth into my throat and then cauterizing some spots. (Not fun). But I highly recommend you don't smoke or do anything that could increase your chance of bleeding. I didn't do anything and I had a blood vessel burst in my throat about a week after surgery. Non stop blood coming out of my nose and mouth. Freaking scary... seriously thought I was going to die. To the point where I can no longer watch tv/movies where people bleed from the mouth without an anxiety attack type reaction. Had to have a second surgery. But trust me. It gets better in time, and it will be better than what it was like before the surgery. I think the only painful part to me still is the huge medical bills :P

hi, I had my tonsils, a uppp, and adenoids out 7 days ago. It hurts to talk or move my tongue. I did not think I would be in so much pain, but my ENT told me it would be excruciating pain and a long recovery. But know I have thrush and no matter how much I brush my teeth, my breath smells like rotting flesh. Its coming from the back of my throat. Is anyone else having this trouble? I am tired of being in pain, I would cry if it didn't make it hurt even worse. Now my ears are starting to hurt a lot.

Will this hell ever end!!!I hope this will be worth it in the end but for know I have my doubts.

Is anyone else feeling like this? I could use some advice or encouragement please??

I saw the earlier post by CarlyP and her ENT is a sadist - I cannot imagine how he recommended pizza, toast, lasagna and all normal foods right away...also how he said there was no need to rest. Worse was her mother enforcing these demonic instructions. I am on day 11 after a tonsillectomy. I had to go back to the ER to be recauterized in a few spots after some bleeding. I have only just managed to swallow luke warm home made ORS solution in the last few days - I tried everything else - GAtorade, Ensure, Pedialyte, apple juice, popsicles..everything burns. I barely managed to swallow a quarter cup of Ramen noodles and another quarter cup of mashed potatoes in the last 11 days. I cannot imagine someone making me eat regular foods. I have had three children including a long and painful twin pregnancy with 20 weeks of pre-term labor, and I would do it million times over compared to this pain. Men on the post, you can truly tell your wives you've felt greater pain when they go through childbirth. At least after labor and delivery you can eat, drink and talk...this is a living hell. I think people who are sadistic become ENTs as mine looked orgasmic when he saw how much pain I was in....well, at least he's better than CarlyP's ENT and the one who refused the boy pain meds. The only decent ENT met was the one in the ER who chemically cauterized my bleeding tonsils.

Hello.. I too.. like just about everyone else here just had my tonsils taken out last week. (actually a week ago yesterday) I am 37 years old and wish I would have had it done a long time ago as they say the older you are the worse it is...Besides the bad sore throat and pain trying to talk I have had some bad ear pain on day 4 & 5.. Lorab has been my best friend. Helps the pain but then I sleep all day. Now that I am eating more solid food my problem is that food gets stuck in the back of my throat and it hurts like hell. :-( other than that I guess it isn't too bad.. best of luck to anyone else who is going to be next in line. :-)

YEP!!!!!!!!!!!! I had mine taken out Sept 15th and it is awful. The pain is not so bad now, but after day two it was TERRIBLE. The ear pain was

awful too. I've never felt so miserable in my life and I wish this would've taken place when I was younger.

I had the full T & A. My voice has changed and even though I have finished all medications, my throat still feels dry and itchy and it hurts to swallow.

I just want it to ALL be done with. I totally feel your pain.

Hey, im on day 3 of having my tonsils removed and this is the worst pain that i have ever experienced. My doctor gave me 300mg of vicodin but i cant take that unless i have something to eat but the problem is im in so much pain when i do eat that its hard for me to get food down. The only thing that i have been able to eat is your typical food ice cream, jello and sometimes some scrambled eggs. I have tried to take the vicodin on just eating the few things ive mentioned and it makes me extremely sick to my stomach to the point im throwing up. Which makes my throat hurt even more. Even having a sip of water is like im swallowing nails. I need some advice because if i have to go 6 more days like this im gonna end up going insane.

This post is a year old, but I must comment. I had a tonsillectomy 5 days ago and this post had me laughing and feeling better. It's good to know I'm not the only one who has gone through but will make it. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I guess everyone really is different. I am on day 2 of a tonsillectomy and thank god I didn't see all these posts before I got it done, yikes! I am 35 and I am doing great, I haven't eaten yet because it does hurt a little to swallow but I am up and around and I feel like I can talk even though I am trying not to. Pain killers have worked beautifully, I have no regrets getting this surgery done. Mine were lasered off and I think it really does make a difference who does your surgery, make sure you find a good doctor. My doctor was amazing and it's really not as bad as I thought it would be at all. I am sorry to all of those people who had a hard time.

I just had my tonsilectomy yesterday, along with a full UPPP.

The pain is insane. Swallowing razor blades. I know I need to stay hydrated, so I'm sipping water and lukewarm tea. But it's awful.

The liquid pain med they gave me BURNS going down. I dread that reminder alarm going off every 4 hours. And, really, I don't think it's making a difference.

I cant sleep because my throat fills up with phlegm and then I have to try to gently cough it out while fighting a choking sensation.

My jaw hurts. My teeth hurt. My ears hurt. Bleh.

Tempted to start refusing liquids so I have to go to the ER and get an IV (and better pain meds)

I'm at the end of day 6. The pain is awful. Especially in the morning those first few sips of water feel like a razor sharp explosion going down my throat and through my ears. It hurts to speak. It REALLY hurts to eat. I'm so hungry but it's painful just swallowing liquids. I don't know why people talk about ice cream. Anything dairy feels like it just clogs my throat. I have been able to fo little bits of soy milk, jello, Popsicles, coconut milk ice cream, top ramen, and very runny fried eggs (those last 2 cooled to room temperature. The pain with food though seems to fluctuate throughout the day. I'm wondering when I can eat more or expect less pain????
