Michelle,
I hope you have a doctor who is very familiar with this type of surgery. You need a better explanation of your problem. I have never heard of removing the thyroid because of a calcium problem. It is pretty unusual to have four bad parathyroid glands. Most of the time the problem is caused by just one enlarged parathyroid. Is your parathyroid hormone (PTH) level higher than normal? Have you had a sestamibi scan to try to locate an enlarged parathyroid? You need to have a surgeon with extensive experience with this type of surgery. Choose your surgeon wisely.
