I actually set the removable showerhead to a light setting and gently rinse. I do this after using the bathroom so as to be as clean as possible. (Meaning before I leave for the day)
I learned that a good portion of the world uses water to wipe clean and decided to do this as well using paper to get the main junk without harsh wiping and let the water cleanse when i jump in the shower.
I follow this by blotting with tissue what I can't with my towel to catch remaining moisture and apply the cream (pencil eraser sized amount or less) directly to the top and wipe down so it coats the entire crease. Then I remove excess with additional wipe.
You dont need to use the cream all the time because it remains there quite some time.
My advice is to only apply when clean or basically you are trapping germs otherwise maybe.
Works good for the most part but as we know some days are worse than others and some are fine. On the worse days I just shower extra times. I like being clean otherwise I feel uncomfortable.
Hope that helps.

We've seen that probiotics work for some people, but not for everyone. Either antibiotics are not always involved in the cause, or some of us haven't found the right probiotic.
But anyway, this quoted post adds some very relevant info.

my success has been: fold a small portion of toilet paper or papertowel and put it in the crack as close and tight as possible by the anus. now, i just change the toilet paper from my butt every time i poop and replace it with a new one. just think of yourself as having to wear tampons but in our butts. im definitely tired of it but its better than having poop all over the crack getting sweaty and dripping down the legs. ewwww. imma definitely try the garlic and cranberry juice.

After 41 years with an ass leaking mucous, causing me all sorts of hideous problems in relationships, I found this on the net yesterday (follow link). I ordered it yesterday and today it arrived.
I took the first one this morning and was naughty and took another this afternoon. It's 23:07 and my ass is bone dry. Not a bit of mucous. NOTHING. There is still slight irritation from the haemorrhoids, but they're bone dry and don't make me feel I have to dive to the nearest loo to scratch.
Normally, at this time of night, it would be a nightmare down below and I would be stuffing loo roll down there in readiness for the night secretions. Absorbtion, inhibited by the early hours, by me scratching around and dislodging whatever I had stuffed down there.
No-one knows the way this makes you feel and you go round in circles at the doctors. For pitys sake, get this. I'm not kidding. My life changed today.......
Turmeric. High dose. A herb I use for cooking. Who would have thought........

This morning, I haven't itched, I haven't scratched and I could cry. I really think it's over.

It may be well worth your time to do some reading on Curcumin. I consulted Wiki, while it's is not the bible on medicine it is just about the only site that does not try selling one something while providing information. Curcumin can be a double-edged sward, so take care before swollowing this stuff.

I looked at those Bio-Curcumin tabs on Amazon, and a few of the customer reviews (in the US) noted that they were much less potent than advertised. I'm more interested in long-term results. As the poster X noted, sometimes we can perceive a new solution to be effective, but over time it doesn't hold up.
I decided to change two things at once. Probably a bad idea, since that makes it hard to pinpoint what works. I switched from the generic Konsyl fiber (so hard to take since it doesn't really dissolve well in water) to Metamucil powder (so much easier to take, but perhaps less effective unless I take it more often). I also switched from a jock itch paste to Calmoseptine—while some people really like the tingling effect of Calmoseptine, I initially found it distracting, so I've switched back for now.
