Like many others on this forum, I have enjoyed living with a retracted foreskin for around 25 years. It was never tight and took some persistence in 'training', however it stays back unrestrained, almost permanently. In addition, around 8 years ago, I tied off the frenulum, so that my foreskin now retracts almost two thirds of the way down my shaft when pulled right back, without tugging at the underside of my glans. My wife has become used to the look and has no complaints!

I started retracting when i was in high school. i think at age 11. it was not easy to begin with especially overnight. a friend suggested tight speedos and this worked. a few years later i was swimming with dolphins on holiday, not a clue what happened but i noticed blood in the water around me. and closer inspection the foreskin was further back than normal. the bleed did not last long and when i returned to my family on the beach it had stopped but very painful with the stinging of the salty sea water. but that did seem to help and from then on i had no problems keeping the skin retracted.

my parent never knew i did this, or if they did they never mentioned it. i have a wife she likes it the way it is. we have 2 boys 11 and 7yrs. both are now retracted fully 24/7. the youngest says he likes it as it makes him look bigger?. sure i never thought like that at 7. but he is happy and i think it is cleaner for them.

i noticed myself in my teens that i had less smelly smegma and as time has passed i am sure the skin has shrunk or stayed the same size as it was when i first retracted 20 years ago. this method seems a good alternative to getting an operation. and if you dont like it you always have the option to go back to a full foreskin?.

I started retracting about 10 years ago, and I love it. I do have a short foreskin, it only covers about 3/4 of the head. I remembered when I first stated, for about 3 weeks, in the morning it would be rolled forward. But this only lasted about 3 weeks. Now it never comes forward on it's own. I think that the foreskin has become a little bit shorter because it only covers about 1/2 of the head now. About looking bigger, I think the back part of the head is larger than it was during an erection. Larry

This doesn’t mean he was circumcised. I had something similar. I suspect it’s genetic my dad and brother were the same. Not sure if it’s because of naturally short foreskin (never covered it all like ones I’ve seen) or large knobs (or both) but within a few years of puberty my penis head had completely grown out of my foreskin. I asked a urologist about this and he basically chalked it up to human variation and to having a large glans but that it’s not a problem if it doesn’t cause pain.

This is actually true and i learned about this just a couple years ago an embarrassing but funny incident. I had no idea about this until traveling with a Japanese friend and visiting an onsen (Japanese public bath) where everyone is naked. I’m not prude; I’m still fit and quickly change and shower at the gym regularly. Still, after stripping in the changing area of the onsen, from the get I stood out like a sore thumb amongst a room full of Asian men; I’m already 6’1, somewhat hairy and stout and (not to brag) blessed with what my college roommate nicknamed “Thorskin’s Hammer” lol. But within minutes I also realized I was the only uncircumcised guy there, which I’m used to from living in the states. When I mentioned to my friend that I didn’t know they practiced circumcision in Japan like they did in the US, he said he wasn’t circumcised and that most men there weren’t either. Apparently it’s not uncommon for dads to teach their sons to retract their foreskin around puberty as a sign of maturity and manhood. (I got some yelling as a kid about not spraying all over the toilet and an embarrassing lecture/tutorial about keeping my penis clean as a teenager and that was about it lol.) And while it’s not official, unspoken rule was that it’s essentially good manners to keep your foreskin back in public places like the onsen (just like some prohibited tattoos) but that it’s prob more of a thing for older generations. It was random and funny but I try to go with the flow when I encounter new customers. I actually asked if I should pull my foreskin back and he said it wasn’t a hard policy and only if I wanted to and the only person we’d know there anyway was his grandfather.

So of course, What else could I do but totally blew this subtle cultural practice out of proportion and embarrassed myself. When his grandfather arrived (how often do you meet someone for the first time naked?) I got up to shake his hand and made an intentional gesture of pulling my foreskin back behind my penis head as a sign of respect with a smile on my face like I had just made a flower magically bloom as magic trick. He looked at me as confused but politely as you can at someone who just did something completely insane and my friend just started speaking to him rapidly in Japanese to distract him. Suffice it to say, my friend let me know I could’ve just done it underwater without drawing attention and ended up giving me sh*t the rest of the trip for “dropping the hammer” on his grandfather for no reason at all.

That said, I had to admit the feeling of being completely exposed was a combination of thrilling and self-conscious at first but ultimately freeing. (I don’t think I’d ever intentionally retracted my foreskin in front of another male outside of my dad, brothers or doctor.) I enjoyed the experience so much that I’ve been keeping my foreskin periodically back ever since and it’s pretty awesome. I completely recommend it. (I wish I had some tips on what tools to use but I don’t have a lot of foreskin so the brim of my penis head just seems to keep it back unless I make a lot of movement or get cold.)

1) I think he’s saying that retraction is probably easiest thing to recommend. He mayve gone the route of circumcision but it’s still surgery and permanent and it may not be for everyone. Permanent retraction is generally the best of both worlds.

2) if you’re having trouble staying retracted all the time, have you tried using bands or devices?

3) sex can be sensitive for anyone —including circumcised guys— after multiple rounds of friction. The penis head is always going to be raw right after sex.

4) how is foreskin retraction inappropriate in public but being circumcised is not? Both result in your bare penis head being exposed. I’ve had my foreskin retracted any time I’ve been naked in front of family, friends and strangers at urinals, in locker rooms and saunas, as well as doctors and massage therapists and never once did they treat me like my penis was inappropriate in appearance. (The only people to even bring it up were my father and urologist, and not with any offense taken.)

Congratulations. I envy your success. But I have a question: how did tied off the frenulum? I will appreciate your answer.

I can do both... Kept mine retracted for about 25 years... Just didn't about 2 years keeping it covered to increase sensitivity, but it didn't return. Tried to retraction... Much prefer it!

I agree. I've kept mine retracted for about 30 year since I was 16 as it just felt right and couldn't go back to bring covered. For me, it's totally natural and who I am, so I'm totally cool with it... Just had the snip and the doc didn't mention it and never tried to hide it in front of family, friends or in showers etc.

The foreskin is protective and should be kept forward over the head to protect the glans penis and to keep it moist and sensitive.
Nevertheless, some men like to wear their foreskins permanently retracted. They seem to do okay with it.

The danger is that paraphimosis may develop. Paraphimosis is the name of the condition of a retracted foreskin that is stuck behind the glans penis (head) of the penis and will not go forward. One can read about paraphimosis on the Internet.

If the foreskin is tight enough it can cut off blood circulation to the head and cause edema (swelling due to fluid accumulation). Paraphimosis should be promptly reduced when it occurs. Paraphimosis may be reduced by squeezing the head of the penis really hard to force the blood to leave the head. This will temporarily reduce the size of the head at which time the foreskin may be brought forward.

If attempts to reduce the paraphimosis are unsuccessful, then one should go to the emergency room of a nearby hospital. It is not necessary or advisable to be circumcised although some old-fashioned doctors are likely to recommend it.

Other men, especially those with longer foreskins, are simply unable to keep their foreskins retracted. Their foreskins roll/slide forward when released and recover the glans penis.

Firstly, interesting topic with some very helpful answers, I didn't expect it to be this good
As for me, I'm just starting to try keep it retracted for longer (for example at nights or my free time). I do not do it for very long though, as I'm scared of developing paraphimosis. I just started, so I'll give you more informations soon. But I think the best way is to control everything and never let it get to the point when you will be hurt. I see auto circumcise can be very beneficial, but I need more time to try it.

Hi, Jamesdudd. In reference to your question of "over a year ago", I never read it before but it is very interesting. In my experience I can say that keeping your foreskin retracted 24/7 will be ok, if you don't notice swelling. After you force the skin back the small hole will make like a ring around the the back of the head. If the "ring" if too tight the retracted foreskin and the glans could swelling up due to poor blood flow. You may also have difficulties emptying your bladder completely, wich can cause infection. If neither of these things happen, enjoy your exposed head, and how clean it will be. I hope you will write something about your experience.

I think it’s due to drying of the skin or irritation from unprotected intercourse. Have you ever experienced vaginal dryness? A non medical professional response would be try using lubricant -silicone or oil based like massage oil. Water based lube tends to evaporate naturally.
