I use to have this happen- everything is fast, loud, extreme sensitivity. Yet I felt like I was moving slowly. It was very scary! When I was 16 I had one that wouldn't go away and almost called an ambulance. The last episode I had was at 21. I'm now 25. When I was very young I'd have them weekly. I also had frequent dejavu and jamaisvu (which I no longer have) as well as seeing "shadows" out of the corners of my eyes (I have none of these now). After speaking with professionals I was told it was either an atypical migraine or seizure (but it lasted 10ish minutes each, so I'm not sure it was a seizure as they are shorter) but if it was infrequent not to worry. I think it probably has the same mechanism as Alice and wonderland syndrome dies, I had abnormal spikes on an EEG, but no definitive epilepsy. Anyway, for me at least it went away. My mom reported feeling similar when she was young, so I suspect it is hereditary. I am surprised there isn't a name for the condition as I've found people with it (online) in the past.

I am amazed, this occurs to me too. where everything seems to be moving very fast and noises seem very loud. it used to occur to me a lot more in my teens but I haven't had an episode in years until tonight. I am 34 now, what triggered it off? So I thought I would google it and feel much better to have found this. I remember it used to last anywhere up to 15 mins but tonight's episode would have been about 5.

ive had this as well. it used to happen to me more when i was i was younger and it started to become rare episodes when i started going through my teens. my last episode was after playing Zelda on the train. everything seems louder than normal, i am more aware of every sound that was happening even the train wheels on the tracks.
i have no idea what this really is. it might be alice in wonderland syndrome, it might be something else.
i have read alot of peoples posts and they would say these episodes scared them, it never scared me. i would almost be excited that its happening again.
this is not related to marijuana whatsoever, because ive never done drugs. just wondering what sets it off, seems random to me.

i can't believe there is others with this sensation too, i've been having them for as long as i can remember, but not so many now i'm in my 20's (i'm now 27) i've been trying to search for information on this for ages and never really got anywhere till now.  I've only just had one, it lasted about 10 -15 mins.  i find them a little scary sometime because i can't control it. it really is a strange sensations everything moving fast, my voice sounding urgent in my head, sounds slightly louder even thou none of it is.  I have no idea what sets them off for me.  This one happened just as i was laying down to sleep and others have happened in the middle of the day.     I will definitely be coming back here to see if anyone has found any new information, and it is really nice to know that i'm not the only one suffering from this.

I want to cry, I'm so glad it's not just me.  I too got these when I was little and would feel the clock ticking faster and a rushing noise in my head and feel like everyone and myself was talking just too fast.  I have distinct memories of being very young and sobbing to my dad to please just slow down.

I just had a moment and decided to google it for the first time.  I'm so glad something came up!  More research!

I am very relieved to read these posts as my son who is now 15 has been having these occurrences for some years.  Its good to hear that it is much more common than I thought it would be and does not appear to be allied with anything sinister and that he will probably " grow out " of it.

He had an instance last night so I made an appointment for him to see his doctor before I saw this forum.

I will still take him to see his doctor about this and I will post anything he says which might be of interest.

Hello everyone,

I've experienced this as well.  It's like everything is going twice as fast, and even the things you hear are amplified.  If you try talking in what seems to you like the normal speed, for other people it sounds like you're talking slower than usual.  And another thing I noticed is that if the feeling starts, and you just stay still, it gets worse.  Things keep going faster and faster and faster, although as for the level of hearing, I think it just stays at the same loud level.

It would occur only a few times in a year.  I'd search online for anything about it but couldn't find anything.  It was only a few weeks ago when I found a trick that sort of kicks me out the feeling.  Apparantly, my brother also gets the same feeling, but whenever he would feel it coming, he would blow air out his nose and shake his head from left to right for around 1 second.  It's like you're trying to stop a bug from flying up your nose.

Anyway, I've just experienced the "fast feeling" now, and I did what my brother does, and It works.  It's most effective if you do it early on, when you feel it's just about to happen.  If you're a few minutes into the feeling already, you'll have to blow your nose and shake your head a few more times.  I've done this for the past two times that I've experienced the feeling, and in both times, it took me out the the weird feeling.  Although, I still don't know what's causing it.

I hope this works for you guys out there too.

I'm glad I found this thread, I've been wondering what these feelings were and if other people had experienced them as well. I can't remember the first time I experienced this feeling, but I want to say it was probably 6-12 months ago, but recently they have become much more frequent. I just had an episode less than 15 minutes ago, which is what prompted me to finally look this up. For the past few months I have been getting these feelings almost daily, and sometimes multiple times per day. They make it very hard to concentrate. I feel an extreme sense of urgency, and a "speeding" sensation inside of my head. When I speak, my voice sounds different, like I'm really anxious or feeling impatient or something. When I get this feeling when I'm alone, it isn't so bad, but it feels very awkward when I'm around people and it happens. It's really just an odd feeling, not necessarily scary, but definitely disruptive. Others have said that they feel bigger or smaller, or like the room is growing/shrinking, but I never really get those feelings. Anyway, I'm just curious as to what it could be.

I'm 49 years old and have waited all this time to realise that I was not the only person experiencing these 'fast' episodes. At times that I can only recall were periods of relaxation, normally watching the TV, I'd gradually feel myself moving into tunnel vision with a corner of the room and if I looked outside I'd experience people and cars moving a lot faster than normal although my hearing remained fine. These 'turns' were frequent and initially very scary as a 5 year old, but as I grew older and more used to the feeling I would attempt to write down the feelings so as to pass the information onto my mother. Unfortunately the internet was a lifetime away thus making it virtually impossible to search for an answer. My mother did take me to a child psychologist without any result. I can only guess they put it down to the fact that I was hyperactive.
The period of time between 'fast' episodes grew greater and greater until about the age of 20 when they stopped all together.
My wife did a search tonight because my youngest son of 6 has just expressed similar feelings so I was very pleased and surprised to see this post. My son will get the understanding that I missed out on thanks to all those who have taken the time to express their own experiences which can be embarrassing when trying to explain to others who haven't come across the issue. Many thanks.

My first occurrence of Tempore Turbatio (time disturbance translated into Latin, why not have a fancy word for it?) was at an age of 14. The frequency increased steadily until it reached a top when I was 15/16 years old, when I sometimes had it several times a week. It has gotten better now, and I experience approximately every 4th month.

While some explain it has an interested feeling, I dislike the feeling of losing the 'control' of my own mind. I explained the phenomena to my doctor, and he deemed it necessary to perform a blood test, MRI and EEG... Inconclusive. It seemed like I was healthy with the exception of a minor iron deficiency, which I began to take supplementation for. Although the supplementation gave me more energy, it did not prevent the occurrence of the 'fast feeling'.

It's nice to read a suggestion for preventing this happening, Tristan, and I will try it as soon as I get the sensation of something fuzzy happening. I will report back later.

Here are some observations I have made about the 'feeling':<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

 - May occur when I'm exhausted, but not necessarily

 - Laying down with a blanket over my head helps mitigate the unpleasantness of the feeling, but will not make it disappear faster.

 - The neurologist I talked to said that it may be related to epilepsy, and the reason for my EEG not giving any concise results was because the brain patterns which indicate epilepsy occurs randomly.

 - It lasts for about 5 minutes and I can feel it coming about one minute before. It increases in strength over time.

 - I have never had the feeling of shrinking or anything like that, except when I'm sick and have a fever, and then I sometimes have the feeling that the room becomes much larger.

Nice to see that I'm not alone

Hi,
I`m twelve years old and I`ve been experiencing this "fast feeling" since i was young. This has happens the last few nights and it hasn`t happened in about 6 months. I feel talking to family members help. I`ve always describes this to my mother as the "fast thing" and sometimes noises are amplified in my ear when this happens. My mother took me to a doctor the other day and he says it might be something to do with stress and anxiety. I`m really happy to find out that there are other people who experience this and I am not alone. I hope we can work out the cause of this because it annoys me but also inetrests me.

its quite obvious its a hormonal issue; by looking at our age onset; n has nothing to do with minor things like tv; many of us may have environmental and biological triggers such as high stress presonailities; lack of sleep, hormone imbalances, exposures to certain viruses, ext. I just wanna no what it is exactly; is it "racing thoughts' is it a sign of something more; why does it happen to us when we are kids n resurfaces n our early 20s; does anyone else see this as odd; and the fact that there is soo many of us; why isnt there more information; how do we make it stop
