I had my thermal ablation (no balloon) done two days ago. But before my surgery, my doctor did a biopsy of my uterus to make sure there were no precancerous cells. She said because once you have had the ablation it can give you a false negative. Then I had to have a regular and vaginal ultra sound. And because she thought she saw a thickening of my uterus she had me do a saline ultrasound. Which is where they cut a slit in your uterus wall, insert saline into the lining of your uterus while doing a vaginal ultrasound at the same time. She said she wanted to make sure there were no polyps or anything. If there are polyps or any kind of growths the ablation won't work. I also had to take a hormone pill right after I got off my period up until the night before my surgery. This hormone pill thinned my uterus and kept me from starting my period.
It hasn't been too painful. Basically like severe cramping during my regular periods. Which I am use to. My doctor gave me vicodine with ibprophen. She said that this was a pain pill for the pain and it had ibprophen in it for the cramping. It has really worked. And before my surgery the nurse gave me four different kinds of medicine in my iv for neasua. So I have not felt sick at all. So far, I would recommend this surgery. But I am interested in seeing if it does away with my periods all together.

I am about to have the Novasure proceedure done, but am worried about the bloating that is being mentioned. Also, in a newer relationship and concerned about the quality of sex following the proceedure. Will I need to invest in KY products? Will bloating and flatulance follow me the rest of my days?? I just can't handle being on progesterone until menopause sets in.

Had Ablation done in 2005 after months and months of bleeding. Best thing I ever did!!!!! Had 3 days of spotting a few months after surgery and nothing since that time. No other problems at all.

I just had the proceedure done 3 days ago and I also am in a new relationship so I am concerned about some of the things I'm reading on here as well as the qualit of sex following this. Any advise some veterans can give would really be helpful. (As far as products, I will say Astroglide works the best!! )

I am having the procedure done tomorrow. Reading everyone's experiences has been very helpful. I am a little apprehensive about it, but I realize that everyone is different and there does seem to be a lot of people who have no complications. I have to be back to work Monday, so hopefully that will be ok. My boss is not sympathetic to women at all, we even have to come to work if we are sick, which really sucks. I'm 40 and have had 4 female surgeries, doctor wants to try the ablation rather than going to the extreme of a hysterectomy. I hope he's right.

As is my understanding, I think that onoce you have healed from the surgery that some Astroglide helps more than anything as you've posted. Can you let us know some of your experiences? I'd like to hear about htem!

I had this procedure done about 8 years ago. I had it done because I always had heavy periods and had tried everything else. For the first 5 years I had no periods what so ever, but for the last 3 years I have a regular cycle, my periods only last from 1-3 days.

Initially, I think it triggered BV which would relate to the changes in the PH balance of the vagina, but now all is well.

I am 43 next week and would recommend this procedure to anyone, to be honest I do, it changed my life for the best and if my daughter ever suffered from heavy periods, I would request it instantly instead of waiting 20 odd years.

The only thing was for the first few years, I feel that my uterus was a bit numb and and I wasn't as sensitive sexually, put that has disappeared and once again I have full sensation.

Hope this helped, all the best.

I had the ablasion and D&C proceedure done last Wednesday 3-24-10. The pain following the proceedure was a little more intense then I had anticipated. However, I do not have a high tolerance for pain. By 11:00 p.m. that evening most of the pain was gone. I just past my first week and feeling no pain. I have VERY minimal spotting. I was very bloated for about 5 days but I think that was mainly because of the narcotics that I was given to reduce the pain. The narcotics take up to 6 months to leave your system and typically cause bloating and constipation. I had a lot of narcotics! I still have minimal bloating. I was told to only wait 48 hours after surgery for sex. I waited almost a week. I had one side effect from sex and that was cramping after an orgasm. I believe that is because my uterus contracted. It didn't last long. I returned to my Kick Boxing class 5 days later with minimal cramping. All in all I am so far greatful not to be in pain for 3-5 days delivering clots the size of oranges every month. My period was easily taking 4 days a month out of my life. I would recommend having an ultrasound before the proceedure so you know exactly what you are up against. My ultrasound showed pollups and cysts on my ovaries. We knew recovery would be a little more painful based on that information. Also, make sure your doctor has done the proceedure MANY times before. Alot can go wrong. They can perferate your bowel, etc. My Dr. had done well over 600. Good luck.

I had a ablation a year and a half ago, I was 43 at the time. I had some very light bleeding for a month and then it completely stopped, I have not had any bleeding whatsoever, and none of that yucky discharge either, the ablation was the best thing I could do for myself at the time, I would do it all over again. I had a fibroid tumor and had been bleeding for almost 6 months, I became severely anemic, I needed a blood transfusion because of my heavy bleeding I let go for so long. I would definately get a ablation before losing my uterus.

I had my 2nd child in Feb. 2006 @ the age of 24.
After my 2nd child, I had my tubes tied, ever since I had that surgery, I bled (full on, heavvvy, clots, whole 9 yards) for 2 full years!
My doctor that done my c-section I kept calling and asking, is this normal, what is going on. "Oh yeah, it's normal" is what they would always tell me. I was having to go to the bathroom every 15-30 mins, I was wearing Tampons and Pads, and still leaking through. I could not even go get groceries because I wouldn't make it without bleeding through everything.
Finially in Dec. 2006 I found a different doct. went to the first appointment on dec 22nd, My red blood count was 4. They immediatly addmitted me into the hospital. They did a D&C to try to fix the issue and was given 2 pints of blood.
The D&C seemed to work...until Feb., the bleeding started all over again....
I was horrified, I thought I had a chance at a normal life, Now i was back to bleeding, granted not as heavy as before, but heavy enough to still be required to do same, Tampon/pad/bathroom every 1-2 hours now routine.
After contacting the Doc. and telling her it didn't work, My options were: Nova Sure, or Hysterectomy @ the age of 25.
I chose the Nova Sure.
After the surgery, healing was normal...felt like someone had punched me in the gut for a few days.
But I am happy to say, IT WORKED!
I dont bleed anymore, I do notice that after having sex, I will spot for a couple days, but hardly anything, Pantyliners is all I have to use.
Nova Sure saved my life!!

I had my procedure in Dec 2008. I have spotted about 3-4 times since then for a day at most. I had a fantastic experience and when I asked the nurse how long til they started, I was told they were almost done! I had only local anes as I have a clotting disorder. Because of that disorder, medications were not an option to control my abnormally long periods. My sister had the same procedure, but hers was in the hospital (mine was in the clinic dr. office) and she still gets a period. Most of the information says that you need to use birth control afterwards, but if I am not having any spotting/bleeding for so long, does anyone know if I still need to? Just curious..... I am 46 and supposedly not menopausal but just seems strange that if there isn't any lining left, and the walls are "burned" that pregnancy would still be possible. All the websites say you should be sure you are done with your family.....
As for those of you who are considering the procedure, I would definitely recommend it!!! Best thing I ever did for myself other than the gastric bypass I had.....

I had the procedure done in January 09. I had a great experience after having heavy periods an anemia prior to that. I have no periods and no pain. I checked in because my stomach is huge. I know I am out of shape and should exercise, however, this stomach is out of proportion to my body. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I had the funds I would do lypo.

I am 46years and had the Novasure Ablation procedure done in April, 2010.  The surgery was successful and I did have very light pink discharge for a couple of weeks then I had a follow-up my doctor in May, 2010 and he explained that was expcted and probably I would have no more menstrual periods.  The next month in June, I was period free even when I had sexual intercourse no problem whats ever.  I am very pleased with the outcome of the surgery and I am glad I did not have my uterus removed I had great doctors at Washington Hospital Center in DC.  In 1994 I had the tubal ligation procedure done because I had decided I didn't want any more children a total of 5. My first to 2 children where premature and the other 3 kids was full term that was surprising being dignosed with a bicournate uterus (heart shaped uterus) and lucky to even have kids and I found out with my first child in 1982.  I would recommend anyone who had had any problems with there mentrual period  to have the abalation procedure done and putting me on birth control pills while trying to regulate my period was just terrible and I was sick the whole time.
