I have the same problem, I'm 18 and i get killer hangovers in fact last Saturday I was throwing up every 10 mins for hours, my hangovers (general c**p feeling as opposed to the full scale vomiting) have begun lasting 2 or even 3 days. I also find that the extent of the hangover is not proportional to the extent of my binge, and get bad hangovers without drinking much at all.
My mum in 42 and after a glass of wine she will be hung-over (migraines nausea etc) for 3 or more days, more than a few glasses and she will be violently ill. She told me that she went from having normal ones to bad once gradually and warned me the same may happen to me.
When i first started binge drinking at 13 ish i would get minor hangovers (last til 12noon or so), not a shadow on what i have now but still significantly worse than the hangovers of me peers. By 14/15 they were lasting till 3pm ish and the headaches would be accompanied by nausea. By 16 my hangovers were lasting until 7 or 8 pm , my friend would receive hangovers for a few hours that had them feeling a bit groggy , know one could get they're heads around why i would be so much worse than them , they all thought i was over reacting. By 17 my hangovers would last til mid afternoon 2 days after i stopped drinking. I am now 18 and my hangovers often last a full 3 days , the first day of which will involve being violently ill, occasionally passing out/fainting (which is probably down to dehydration from not being able to keep anything down).
When i am hung-over i am physically incapable of doing anything and not only because of the vomiting , my mind wont work i cant concentrate i shake so badly i can't even roll a cigarette i feel so cold (regardless of temperature) that i can't bring myself to get out from under the duvet, let alone go out and do anything.
Mum always thought it was an alcohol intolerance/allergy but its not, An Allergy/ intolerance to alcohol causes flushing of the skin congested nose etc. while drinking. And is very rare and not typically associated with killer hangovers so i don't think that, that’s it.
A recurring theme in everyone’s posts is that we never used to get hangovers this bad. I'm starting to think that because of the alcohol abuse we have subjected our livers too in the past we are less equipped to deal with it now.
So many of us have the same problem and yet no doctors will help because the easiest answer would be for us to stop drinking. I think that until some scientist actually researches the issue , there will be no help for us. Just be thankful most of you lasted longer than me for this to happen to you , looks like im going to be spending all of university the designated driver. :-( good luck guys , if you find any help be sure to post it on here !

I was really interested to find so many people who experience the hell of post-drinking
I have been having the awful, delibitating, symptoms you all speak of - waking up with a sledgehammer through my head, sensitivity to light, having to lie on the cold floor, shivering and tingling all over the body, horrific migraine and then having to play the waiting game for the vomitting to start as its the only start of the relief, hem vomitting all day an usually getting some let up where i can hold food down by 10pm
Like all of you I have tried not mixing drinks, only having two drinks, not mixing drinks, drinking weak drinks like light beer, not doing shots, eating carbs before going out, eating whilst out, drinking gallons of water, etc etc
But finally, I think I may have found the solution - it has worked for a month now and I just wanted to share it with you
I read somewhere about eggs being the food your liver needs to cope with recovering from consumption of alcohol so the first thing is I have been having 2 boiled eggs when i get in from a night out - i make them before i go and stick them in the fridge and just eat them quick before i crash out. I am continuing with the lots of water before I go to bed too. Then I am making sure when I wake up in the morning that I drink 2 more glasses of water and go back to sleep as was also finding lack of sleep was not helping
BUT the big one is Milk Thistle. Its amazing - I take it every day now with my vitamin supplements and then on a night out I tak an extra does with the meal before I start drinking
I am pretty sure this is the main cure because instead of the hangover what I do get now is that I sweat during the next day instead - dont worry - not smelly sweat - just perspiring a lot from my forehead. Its like the Milk Thistle has firstly kicked my liver into action so that it can deal with the poisons better and therefore the poisons come out through your pores rather than irritating the stomach lining.
I hope this helps someone else and I would love to hear feedback if this is the case for you
Growing up it was normal for us to start drinking at a young age and I think this has not helped our livers and I am hoping what I have found is a way to nurse the liver now that I have the hangover from hell syndrome
Take care

I don't get nearly as bad hangovers as you guys, but the only times I've ever thrown up with a hangover has been when I'm on my period. I always try and drink lighter when I'm on because I hate that feeling the next morning. But as soon as I've been sick I drink a sachet of Ressolve Extra and it normally makes things a little better.

:-D Yay it's not just me!! I'm currently suffering, had two wines on Saturday night at a house warming party, drunk heaps of water and now it's Tuesday and still have a nausaous stomach, no vomiting this time luckily.
I've tried everything, and I really get annoyed when people say "it's okay, one won't hurt" , yeah you're not the one puking your guts out mate! I'm 40 and been this way since my early 20's, so sorry guys and girls, it gets no better. One drink and puking, really embarrassing when your staying at friends places, no one understands! I just say it's like poison to me, and if I partake this is what will happen, funnily they don't believe me until the next morning! LOL! Mostly now I just stay home, or am, like those above, the designated driver...well I suppose someone has to be %-)

I too am so happy to find others like me. My boyfriend just thinks I'm a cry baby, but I know these are not normal hangovers. I have the same symptoms as most of you. The weird part is they seem to get worse throughout the day-sometimes I wake up with a little headache or none at all, but then it just grows, hitting a peak around 2 or 3 pm and sometimes lasting until I wake up the next morning. The headaches seem to settle in my sinuses and the nausea and chills last all day. I can't concentrate, can't look at bright lights so working on a computer is impossible.
I am 31. I also used to drink A LOT. Then, I did a 6 month liver detox where I didn't drink, didn't eat processed foods and didn't take any over the counter or prescription meds for the entire time and I was never the same after. Now, 1 glass of white wine with dinner will RUIN the next day. Oddly enough, I seem to have the best shot with Whisky and heavy, dark beers like Guinness. I really believe it has everything to do with our livers because I know exactly when it started- after my detox.
Also, kirsty1010, milk thistle was one of the main ingredients of the herbal detox pills I was taking while on the plan, so you may have something going there. Sometimes I really think I gave my liver a taste of a clean healthy life so now it's determined to not ever let me go back to the way I was. My partying days are over and have been for a while, but it's so embarrassing to take a client out to dinner and not be able to have a drink with them OR risk having to call out the next day. I don't think my co-workers believe me when I tell them I "only had one." They all think I'm still partying. It's really depressing.
I'm trying the milk thistle. I'll show that liver who's boss! Thanks, kirsty1010!

Hi I'm 28 yrs old the only thing I am on is birth control which I have been taking long before these symptoms started. I really don't know what is going on I cant keep anything down, my sinuses are killing me, I have a migraine, and entire body is in pain, my heart is having palpitations to the point that I feel like I am having a heart attack.
This only started about a year or 2 ago and I thought it was just because I had too much to drink one night. But this now lasts about 2 days if not more. I have a family history of diabetes with one severe case is my uncle who when he was younger drank a lot.
I have done several internet searches and found that people can have an allergic reaction to alcohol that causes similar symptoms to what everyone on here has mentioned. There is also an possibility it is an intolerance to alcohol. Key ingredients found in alcohol could be what is causing this not just the alcohol itself.
Intolerance is were the body lacks an enzyme used to process the alcohol. And you all know what an allergy is so I don't need to explain that.
I have not yet been able to pin point my issue if it is an allergy or intolerance but considering my family history of diabetes and how alcohol being high in sugars I would not doubt that is a sign that I may be at risk for diabetes later in life and maybe my body suggesting I ease up on the unnecessary sugars.
I am not a doctor but I am very good and coming to conclusion by looking at my family history and the life style that leads to it.
Additional research I have done in regards to diabetes is that it can occur in people that are NOT over weight and are active and lead what we think are healthy lives. When my father was diagnosed with diabetes I was shocked he is one of the healthiest people I know and to find that he is a diabetic made me curious to find out how this could happen.
Again I am not a doctor but look into your family history - heart conditions, diabetes, liver disease, brain aneurysm, etc. Alcohol intolerance and allergies are inherited but obviously there could be other health conditions that are triggered by alcohol just like migraines.
I hope this was helpful I am not saying I have all the answers but today was a bad reminder as I am curled up on the sofa regretting even taking that first sip last night and realize my entire week is shot as I try to recover.
If anyone wants to talk about this feel free to email me - - no spam please.

Hi All,
I'm 21 and these killer hangovers have been happening for the last few years - i used to be fine with drink and not get hangovers but now i feel like death when i do get one.
As others have said, the amount/type of alcohol that i drink doesn't always determine the severity of the hangover - it's pretty much pot luck which is annoying.
I also have no reaction while drinking, it's just the next day - splitting headache, aching body (generally not being able/wanting to move), not being able to hold water down because of being sick every 15mins, shivers (but with the urge to lie on the coldest floor!?) Basically feeling like you are on the verge of dying
With so many people having these exact same symptoms, surely someone must be able to give us a solution?
I haven't been to the doctors yet, as i know they'll just fob me off with "stop drinking"
I will definately try the egg and milk thistle thing but because the hangovers can be so random, i probably wont know if it works until i have the killer hangover!!
I know his topic has been going for a while now, so has anyone had any luck with pin-pointing the cause or anything that can prevent them?
I hope everyone is ok, i wouldn't wish this type of pain/illness on anyone.
Please write back if you have any suggestions!

Since i turned 23 i have also suffered the worst hangovers in the world, but only when i'm on the first or second day of my period. I'm 25 now and in total I've had about 4 or 5 of these horrible hangovers; vomiting the whole next day and not even being able to keep down water. i know that it is definitely connected to my period because my hangovers are light/normal otherwise!
I don't take any birth control pills so i think the girl who said "Is it possible that something your body uses to clean up your system after drinking is exhausted during your period?" must be on to something!
Does anyone else know anything about this?

I am a 20 year old female, and here I am searching online for what could be the cause of my 'hangovers'. Just like most of you said, I have not always been this SICK after drinking. Sometimes I have 2 drinks and the next day I will vomit every 15 minutes for a few hours, sometimes I will have 8 drinks and be fine. This only started a few months ago, so I am till experimenting trying to find a culprit. At first I thought it was beer, but it happens no matter what I drink. Also, like some of you have mentioned, it happens often (but not always) during my period. I do not take birth control, so that is not the reason for me.
What is interesting though is that the first time it happened, I was taking antibiotics. The pharmacists specifically told me not to drink A DROP while taking these, but I still went ahead and had 2 beers one night. I wasn't even drunk and was able to drive home after, but as soon as I got home, I was reallly drunk out of nowhere. My girlfriend put me to bed, and the next morning, I was puking and puking and puking, not able to keep water down or crackers. So I'm thinking I might have permanently screwed up my liver. It's just really annoying to not know if the next day you will be terribly sick or not, and when you are, you have to call in sick, which makes you seem irresponsible.
I don't think doctors could help, it is not an allergy or else I would be having reactions as soon as I start drinking. I will definitely will try the eggs, anything to stop this.

Hey everyone, this has happened to me twice now and i think I may have an explanation. I am 22 and have had two instances of the nausea vomiting after drinking. I asked my mom, who happens to be a doctor, why that might be happening and she decided that I may have developed pancreatitis from the alcohol. I don't usually drink very much so I was pretty surprised, but supposedly it is caused by severe dehydration... which makes sense, and can be brought on my heavy drinking. But I would suspect if you are already dehydrated before drinking it wouldn't take as much. Anyhow it can be pretty serious so be careful!

Hi guys,
This is a bit late, but I thought I should reply to help other folk with this problem
I am a 34 year old female, and I started getting the horrific all day vomiting hangovers when I hit 30. I was on the verge of giving up drinking altogether until a pharmacist friend of mine recommended taking a ranitidine tablet (a widely available anti-indigestion medicine, available as generic as well as brand name), before starting to drink and another in the morning.
This pill has completely stopped my vomiting. From what I understand, the extreme nausea and vomiting is an acidic reaction to the alcohol, and the ranitidine stops it from forming in the first place. Just make sure you take it BEFORE you drink anything.
My husband calls it my 'license to binge drink'. 8-| I prefer to see as insurance against misery if I decide to occasionally drink a wee bit too much.
Hope this helps.

I have these same exact symptoms and, while I don't know what it is, there are a few ways to help. Staying hydrated is number one make sure you drink plenty of water before and while you're drinking alcohol, I switched to only drinking beer also because the hangovers aren't nearly as bad, and right when I get home from a night of drinking I take something that will help my headache the next morning and eat some toast/bread or crackers to absorb the alcohol in my stomach. Knowing how alcohol affects your body will give you the info on what your body needs for when the alcohol leaves your system!!! I hope this helps!!!

Helle from norway. I've got the same problem, Im 26 years old and I get the same hangover. Throwing up every hour the whole day and feeling really nauseous, so bad that I don't even worry about my headache. Now I haven't been sick like this for over a year and I always go out at least twice a week. The way I do it is to never go to bed drunk and always eat something before i go to sleep, like eggs, bacon, junk food in general, the important thing is not to go to sleep on an empty stomach.
