The only way to avoid this situation is to avoid alcohol. Switching to a different drink may solve the problem if you’re allergic to a particular ingredient.

I have just read every single post on here and I must say it feels good after all these years to find that I'm not the only one who gets these types of hang overs. I'm a 35 year old male. I started getting hang overs like these in my early twenties and they have got worse and more frequent over the years. I can have a couple of beers and be okay, but now I very rarely drink to get drunk because of this issue. Now I don't even have to feel that drunk the night before to get one of these hangovers and my head can feel cloudy for days. No solutions for you I'm afraid. Personally, I think I'm just going to admit that alcohol doesn't agree with me and give it up. I wish I had done that sooner, but it is harder to do when you're in your twenties. I've had a lifetime's worth of hangovers and the same can be said of binges. Time to stop.

This may a physical reaction to constant low-level anxiety. Most people know of panic attacks in which the adrenal glands gets an instant overload. If the anxiety level are low but constant then the adrenal gland will cope with each incident but might not have time to recover between incidents.

I have the same problem, and I get very emotional, and stay sick for two days. I have decided to quite. I do not want to spend another day feeling that way.

Try taking Allegra or another allergy pill before you drink. I have the exact same reactions the following day and taking an allergy pill seems to have made an incredible difference. I may feel a little tired but haven't thrown up or even had a bad headache. I had read up on why I have the reactions that started just a couple of years ago and I think it the amines in the red wine not the sulfides.

I am stunned by all of the comments here. I'm 47 and have had these "hangovers" for years. They make no sense ... sometimes they are after 2 glasses of wine and sometimes I can drink way too much and wake up feeling fine. I feel like such a loser at times, because I haven't overdone it but am laid up in bed the entire next day throwing up stomach bile every 15 minutes and then have a migraine for the next 48 hours. I wish I understood what caused this. Anyone who learns anything at all, I would LOVE some insight.

I too suffer the same thing and it's been my entire life I am 51.. I go out dancing and I can drink two glasses of wine and be sick the next day until I go to bed. I feel that way now, I did over drink last night and I'm not a big drinker because of it! I just don't know how people deal with hangovers because I've never had a normal one. I get migraines and I can't think about food the entire next day. I have no clue how other people eat or drink with a hangover. I too thought I was the only person on the planet that suffered these horrendous day after hangovers. I always felt it could be an allergy to alcohol, but who knows like everybody says doctors have no time for this nonsense! I just wish I could suffer normal hangovers like my friends, but I feel like the only one :( maybe there something you can eat before going out or drink Gatorade to hydrate who knows it's just speculation. thank you all for posting.

I too suffered like you and had despaired of ever finding the cause. I could never enjoy a few beers with my mates.
6 months ago I gave up bread and dairy to lose some weight and clear my sinuses and guess what? Hangovers have gone, I got drunk last night and woke up feeling a little worse for wear. Normally I'd be sick as a dog and wouldn't even be able to keep down a sip of water. I've just finished a big lunch and had 3 cups of coffee and I feel great.
Might be worth giving it a shot

Hi,
I have the same exact issues! Sometimes I will have one drink and feel sick for a full 12 hours the next day (throwing up every 15 mins, sweating, heart racing, head/stomach pain) it doesn't matter what I drink whether it's beer/wine/hard alcohol. I have had many blood tests and doctors can't seem to find anything wrong and their only tip has been to avoid alcohol all together. I never drink my alcohol with chasers or anything sweet and always drink a ton of water before going to sleep. Have you gotten any updates? I would love to figure out if there is an ingredient in alcohol that is worth avoiding or if there is something to take to avoid the hangovers. :/

I'm a 21 year old female who has been struggling with the same symptoms as everyone on this thread for 4 years now. Like most of you, when I began drinking about 8 years ago I did not have any hangover, AT ALL until I was a freshman in college at the age of 18. From there it has been all downhill. As you all know it is a VERY frustrating situation when doctors tell you that you need to just stop drinking, or when someone calls you an alcoholic (if 2 drinks once a week classifies me as an alcoholic I don't even know what to say) I'm sorry but that just isn't very realistic as a senior in college graduating in 3 months. Watching all my friends go to the bar while I stay in my apartment is beyond frustrating. I find that whether I drink a single beer or glass of wine, or take 10 shots at the bar, the result is the same; I start throwing up 2-4 hours after I stop drinking and CANNOT stop until 6pm the next night. I have tried everything, and when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. Just drinking non-flavored alcohol with club soda, having a glass of water in between drinks, chugging water and Gatorade before I go to bed. I recently started taking Prilosec which has reduced my vomit sessions from 10 hours to 8, so I guess that's some type of progress? The only thing that seems to help in the slightest bit is smoking pot. After throwing up for 5 hours or so I find the energy to smoke a little, which makes me feel a little better. And by that I mean I can take a single sip of water without throwing it up. I then go back to bed for a few more hours, and feel 20% human when I wake up. I have seen a Gastrointestinal doctor for a year now. They have run several tests and they all have come back negative. I recently took part in an upper endoscopy, where there were no stomach ulcers or excess stomach acid found. My doctor's recent advice was to stop drinking for 3 months, and then slowly begin to reintroduce alcohol to my body again. Like I said this just doesn't seem realistic for a 21 year old graduating in 3 months... Come on someone has to have found a solution!!

Hi Madison,

I have the same exact problem as you. Have you found out anything new ?

Hi all,

Same issue here. 25 yo male. Used to binge drink HEAVILY in college, and hangovers seemed normal. I mean they sucked, but they seemed reasonable compared to my friends' feelings, and given the amount of alcohol I would consume.

Now though, hangovers are debilatating. 1-2 beers and I feel nauseus and slightly clouded the next day. As I creep towards 5-6 drinks, we start to enter the "severe migraine, cloudy thinking, depression/anxiety, can't-even-drink-water-without-puking-my-guts-up" type of a hangover. Usually these last 24-36 hours. If I am drinking to get drunk, I feel as if I should go to the hospital.

Like others, I can't seem to find a pattern. Switching alcohols and drink types has no effect. Classic prevention methods (eat while drinking, greasy food, dairy, proper hydration, vitamins before bed), also have no effect. Additionally, like others it seems to happen at random. But when it happens, my God does it happen with a vengeance. It's currently Sunday am, and I'm still feeling the effects of Thursday night (6-7 high quality IPAs with dinner).

Like others, I don't believe this is caused simply by age. I have friends, both my age and older, who don't seem as affected by alcohol as I am. In fact at Chritsmas our family got into the wine pretty heavily, and I was the only one still wretching at 3 pm the next day. Even my 50 yo parents and aunts/uncles were like, "Wtf is wronf with you?"

Any solution or advice would help us all out. Like others, I've realized the days of binge drinking are over. The days of even getting drunk are probably over, and frankly I'm okay with that. But it's difficult to totally abstain from aclohol altogether. I don't want to rip shots of Fireball anymore, but I would like to be able to have a few beers with friends on special occasions without spending the next day or two hugging a toilet and praying for the sweet release of death.

I HAVE FOUND A CURE!!! After years of completely abnormal and extreme hangovers, I accidentally found a solution. Just like everyone else here, my hangovers were beyond brutal, and the amount, or what I drank didn't seem to matter. It was always followed by 24-hours of straight puking, dry heaving and brain-splitting headaches. I thought I must have suddenly developed an allergy to alcohol. Like, not when I drank it obviously, but perhaps an allergy to whatever my body did to process it afterwards. I still don't know the real reason it happens...but I did find one thing that 100% cures it. And, I've tested this theory. What I do is pound alkalized water before, and after my indulgence. But, not just any alkalized water. Not the stuff from the machines, or what you can buy at the store. Nope. The magic I take is called pHenomenal. And, No, I do not work for that company, or get paid by them. They don't make any claims about curing hangovers-just to be clear. Long story short, a family member caught MRSA from a stay at a hospital. After months of pure hell, we discovered pHenomenal water, and it cured her in days. Not exaggerating. Anyway, the stuff is super good for the body, even if you don't have MRSA. Acidity is linked to almost every damn disease we know. So, I started taking it too. As a result, I discovered, on accident that guzzling this sh*t before I go out, makes ALL the difference in the world. I imagine it has something to do with neutralizing the acid in the alcohol. I feel perfectly fine the next day. I should note that I was on the stuff for a good month before I drank-so maybe my body's pH was more balanced than yours would be. You might have to level the playing field first, then try it. It comes in a concentrate that you mix with water. It's pricy, but it will last a while-and it is soooooo worth it. Your Welcome :)

OMG you are hilarious! Only because i can relate to EVERYTHING you are saying. Please read my other post. I want to share this valuable information with fellow sufferers. My discovery is a total game changer. And, trust me, I have attempted to get drunk without pounding my "magic" water, and it's back to hangovers straight from hell. Your depiction of the aftermath is so dead-on to what I have dealt with for years. But the pHenomenal water stops it from happening. Before I drink I mix up a sports bottle worth and consume it right before I go out. The next morning, I also drink some, but the beforehand amount is the most important. I have even had my friends try it. Although none of them can relate to my extreme reactions, it seems to help them too. If I don't, I pay big-time. I highly suggest ordering some to keep on hand for whenever you plan to drink.
