The only way to avoid this situation is to avoid alcohol. Switching to a different drink may solve the problem if you’re allergic to a particular ingredient.

This may a physical reaction to constant low-level anxiety. Most people know of panic attacks in which the adrenal glands gets an instant overload. If the anxiety level are low but constant then the adrenal gland will cope with each incident but might not have time to recover between incidents.

I am stunned by all of the comments here. I'm 47 and have had these "hangovers" for years. They make no sense ... sometimes they are after 2 glasses of wine and sometimes I can drink way too much and wake up feeling fine. I feel like such a loser at times, because I haven't overdone it but am laid up in bed the entire next day throwing up stomach bile every 15 minutes and then have a migraine for the next 48 hours. I wish I understood what caused this. Anyone who learns anything at all, I would LOVE some insight.

6 months ago I gave up bread and dairy to lose some weight and clear my sinuses and guess what? Hangovers have gone, I got drunk last night and woke up feeling a little worse for wear. Normally I'd be sick as a dog and wouldn't even be able to keep down a sip of water. I've just finished a big lunch and had 3 cups of coffee and I feel great.
Might be worth giving it a shot

I have the same exact issues! Sometimes I will have one drink and feel sick for a full 12 hours the next day (throwing up every 15 mins, sweating, heart racing, head/stomach pain) it doesn't matter what I drink whether it's beer/wine/hard alcohol. I have had many blood tests and doctors can't seem to find anything wrong and their only tip has been to avoid alcohol all together. I never drink my alcohol with chasers or anything sweet and always drink a ton of water before going to sleep. Have you gotten any updates? I would love to figure out if there is an ingredient in alcohol that is worth avoiding or if there is something to take to avoid the hangovers. :/

I have the same exact problem as you. Have you found out anything new ?

Same issue here. 25 yo male. Used to binge drink HEAVILY in college, and hangovers seemed normal. I mean they sucked, but they seemed reasonable compared to my friends' feelings, and given the amount of alcohol I would consume.
Now though, hangovers are debilatating. 1-2 beers and I feel nauseus and slightly clouded the next day. As I creep towards 5-6 drinks, we start to enter the "severe migraine, cloudy thinking, depression/anxiety, can't-even-drink-water-without-puking-my-guts-up" type of a hangover. Usually these last 24-36 hours. If I am drinking to get drunk, I feel as if I should go to the hospital.
Like others, I can't seem to find a pattern. Switching alcohols and drink types has no effect. Classic prevention methods (eat while drinking, greasy food, dairy, proper hydration, vitamins before bed), also have no effect. Additionally, like others it seems to happen at random. But when it happens, my God does it happen with a vengeance. It's currently Sunday am, and I'm still feeling the effects of Thursday night (6-7 high quality IPAs with dinner).
Like others, I don't believe this is caused simply by age. I have friends, both my age and older, who don't seem as affected by alcohol as I am. In fact at Chritsmas our family got into the wine pretty heavily, and I was the only one still wretching at 3 pm the next day. Even my 50 yo parents and aunts/uncles were like, "Wtf is wronf with you?"
Any solution or advice would help us all out. Like others, I've realized the days of binge drinking are over. The days of even getting drunk are probably over, and frankly I'm okay with that. But it's difficult to totally abstain from aclohol altogether. I don't want to rip shots of Fireball anymore, but I would like to be able to have a few beers with friends on special occasions without spending the next day or two hugging a toilet and praying for the sweet release of death.
