In the middle ages, a woman is still a virgin if her hymen is still intact. The hymen is the tissue or membrane that is located around the vagina. Once the hymen is torn or stretched, the woman is simply not a virgin any longer.

if you're stating that the hymen is related to virginity, i'm afraid you're wrong. i have known girls who have ripped their hymens during physical activities, eg horse riding, cycling, sports etc. some girls aren't even born with hymen. so what you're gonna say...they're born without virginity ???? virginity is simply the non-participation in penetrative sexual activites (equation of loss of virginity (male and female): penis enters vagina = loss of virginity.
