I know I am one in a million that has to have surgery called hysterectomy. My surgeon made me an appointment in few days, so these days I am using to prepare myself. During this time, I read a lot about hysterectomy, because I wanted to know what I am going to do. Something worried me there, because I read it is possible to gain extra weight after this surgery. I want to know if that is true, because I am already overweight, so if I gain more I do not know how this is going to affect on my health.
I had hysterectomy tree years ago and since then I have gained almost 25 pounds. I said that to my doctor, but he did not seem there is any help for me. I have tried changing the dosage of my hormones, as well as the type of those, thinking it might help me. Doctor just told me women could experience some normal symptoms after this type of surgery. He warrants me of hot flashes, weight gain, breast pain, leg pains, and sleeplessness. I have one friend with the same problem; she was speaking with her doctor too about her symptoms and weight gain. He was given little help except the offer of a prescription. She did not want to take it telling me I should resists medication whenever possible. Her doctor was even less helpful about her weight concerns then mine. Therefore, you should accept this side effect of hysterectomy. It could be worse, that your doctor keeps telling you bluntly that anyone can lose weight with just eat less and exercise. As we had not already been doing that, but seems there is no help for our problem.
