I had my gb out about a week and ahalf now, I lost weight to fast and bam my gull bladder said "I dont think so" anyways...I am great now and still loosing weight. You aren't gaining weight by going to the gym. The lb you gained was MUSSLE. When I started dieting, (lifestyle change) I hate the word diet, the scale did not change for 1 month. I stayed at 170 and at times it read 175 (now I am 126) (yah it's discouraging but it's the truth) but I also noticed my clothes didn't fit anymore (were a lot looser) after a month the scale came down. You gain mussle when you first start, mussle weighs as much as fat does. I have had no problems since my gb came out, and I am really confussed because I have read that people have had all these problems. (I read it everywhere) I go to Mcdonnalds and I auto know if I eat there, I better know where the bathroom is about 20 min into it. (I know this in advance though) Don't want to have to use the bathroom every 30 min don't eat the fat. Plain and simple. If I want it I know what's ganna happen, then I choose. I've had NO pain since it was taken out, I feel great.. and I guess I should write this here because my mom and sister had theirs out too and they have no problems at all. NONE...So I am really confussed and wonder if there isn't other things going on with those of you that are having problems that aren't related to the surgery. Also if you start out with a liquid diet I wonder about that too, because right after sugery they brought me hospital food (normal diet) and my husband brought me a ham and cheese and muffin. I was starving so I ate both LOL... Maybe its different for those that don't start out "liquid" and just eat as they normally do...

I had my gallbladder removed 30 years ago. I weighed 250 pounds then and was very fit and strong. I now weigh 440 poounds and am disabled with many weight related problems. My weight has steadily increased since the operation and for 30 years no-one has been able to explain why until now, so a big thank you to you, Cranistan.

I need serious help. I have been the same weight for 15 years...within 2-3 lbs, but since having my gallbladder removed, I have gained weight too. I eat the same way I always have but to battle my weight gain, I have started exercising more than I did. I run 3 miles several times a week and go to the gym almost every day. I know this is the reason for my weight gain, Nothing else has changed in my life. I am still young, take no medicines, sleep well, etc. Does anyone have a dr. they could recommend or supplements I should take?

I too have been gaining weight slowly since my GB was removed. I was overweight at 119kg before the surgery and due to anatomical abnormalities (WTF???) they have to cut me open to remove the GB. BTW i still get the same pain (on the left side of abdomen (although not as severe)) and end up opening bowels 3 - 6 times a day. as apposed to 1 - 2 times daily prior to surgery. I mainly eat low cal/low-fat. Do not drink Milk (Fat Free Soy milk only) and get plenty of excercise. (1 hour walk to work and back each day).

Currently I am at 123.6kg. I eat healthily, although largish portions (need to cut back).

Things to try:
Table spoon of Lecithin with cereal in the morning (Lecithin aids in emulsifying fats, strange as its is virtually fat itself). Bile salts and acidophilus bifidus (Yakult) on a regular basis. I will also try fish oil as well

I was in an automobile accident in August of this year and within a 2 month time frame lost over 30 lbs. during this time the medication they put me on caused my galbladder to become diseased so they took it out. it has been almost 2 months since the surgey now and though i find it somewhat easier to eat more and more foods but still get the nausea all the time and don't eat as much as i use to. i find ginger ale is best to drink and helps with the nausea most but i fear when will i start gaining weight and will it happen? i have not gained a pound since my surgery and this bothers me as i have always struggled with my weight. true i do find myself in the bathroom sooner than before and have diarrhea constantly but this just concerns me. i have also heard lot of people get IBS after having the galbladder removed and that the galbladder can grow back. is this true?

I am having gallbladder out tuesday, I have a blockage in my cystic duct and my gallbladder is functioning at 0%. I had diarrhea for 3 months straight over the summer and didn't lose one single pound. I couldn't drink water- it would give me violent cramps and send me straight to the bathroom so I avoided eating. I think I gained weight actually- very depressing. I now eat alot more carbs than I used to and eat more frequently in general- I think it helps to soak up the bile and bind everything in my gut. I think my stomach will pretty much be the same after I get my gallbladder out since the duct is completly blocked now anyway. I don't want to eat so much but I feel like I have to or else I am sick if I wait too long to eat. I take my probiotics and hopefully that will help protect my gut. I am bummed I have so much weight to lose and now it looks like it will be ten times harder to get it off and keep it off. All of the women on my moms side have had their gallbladder out, my great great grand mother down- I guess I couldn't avoid it. I am surprised that doctors don't really educate their patients about what can happen afterwards and how to best manage. I almost cried when my doctor said it had to come out and I told him I was afraid that I might not be better afterwards but he said I will be fine and I'm young. I hope that everyone here can feel better- this is a miserable way to live! I feel like a leper, never eating out in public and always running to the restroom dragging my 2 year screaming son. He knows the drill, he just stands there looking at me in pain the poor guy.

I had my gall bladder removed in November 2008. At the time of removal I weighed 187 lbs. It is now 2 months later and I have been working out rigorously, eating 1500 calories a day. walking, going to the gym 6 x a week and not eating too much fat and i even take a pill called Alli which supposed to help with weight loss but i am still 197, i even got up to 208 in December because i was eating a lot. Im going to try the bile salts everyone is suggesting to lose weight. I think its going to work, something has got to give. I am at my wits end with this too! I hope someone can tell us how the bile salts worked to help you lose weight. Im going to bookmark this page, take the bile salts for 2 weeks and then post a response on how it worked for me. Thanks for reading.

Thank you Thank you Thank you All of you wonderful people! I've telling people for years that my gallbladder surgery is what has led to my uncontrollable weight gain and no one especially doctors truly believe me. I had mine removed almost 14 years ago a month after my son was born. I had never been skinny but I was always in control when I chose to take control and lose weight. After the surgery I started gaining at such an alarming rate and I tried to eat perfectly and exercise and I just kept gaining. Within 5 years I was up 120 lbs. I finally got desperate (after a doctor actually said I had hand to mouth disease!!) and got some diet pills at the vitamin shop that contained ephedra. Well I felt fantastic because I was on SPEED! I walked, danced, yoga, tai bo all day long. I didn't have an appetite and I sometimes couldn't sleep so I'd walk a few miles in the middle of the night. I lost 100lbs over 2 years time. Then they took it off the market. I was so ANGRY! That was about 6 years ago and I have trained for 2 half marathons and walked 13.1 miles in each of them and I am a gardener so my job has my body working all the time. I eat loads of veggies and hardly any bad stuff. And I have gained 60lbs. back. I have asked countless doctors to help and they look at me like they expect me to binge on 5 hamburgers on the way home. They don't have any respect for my problem. And now because of you I know I'm not alone. I am going to try bile salts and I'm going to take these messages to my doctor and shove them down her throat! Thanks!

I had my gall bladder removed in 2004. it was literally killing me, if i had not had it removed i would have died within the next 2 weeks(my gall bladder at mutated and attached itself to my intestines, kidney in between my ribs,, it was the length of my right side abdomen, and extremely diseased). i dropped 50 pds in 2 months. i wasnt healthy but i was around 190, but im also 5'11''. now i weigh almost 280pds. the doctors have not been helpful. im always tired, sick, and in pain. the added weight has caused problems with my joints. i have tried everything from a to z except plastic surgery and they doctors look at me like im crazy. im sorry that everyone one on here is experiencing these problems, but its nice to know im not crazy or alone.

No you are not crazy nor alone,, I too had mine out in Feb 2004 and Ill never be the same again. like you I had to have mine out or I would have died shortly .. very infected my injection refractory was 3% and it was really HUGE like 7 in long ... plus we had no health insurance and here in Texas took 90 days to finds someone willing to help me.. I have classic post-cholecystectomy syndrome in all it's incarnations.. Cant have much more than a liquid diet . although I will occasionaly eat but I am bloated in right side pain , will have shortness of breath, full belly after two bites etc ,,etc,, plus lots of abdominal adheasions ( scar tissue ) I have had many surgeries to fix duct work, take out scar tissue off the liver and other places ,,my right side of my back hurts constantly,, CANNOT sleep on my right side at all period ,very VERY tired all the time . I am 46 had 6 kids am usually about 135 at 5'7 ,, I am about that now but have a very hard time just living each day .

It affects us all differently but I do wish the Dr's would acknowledge post-cholecystectomy syndrome and not dismiss us . Not that they can cure it because it comes in so many ways but that they could maybe help us manage it somewhat ..

I had the lap procedure which I am now understanding shouldnt have been done on someone as sick as I was that it can make post-cholecystectomy syndrome worse.

This is not very reassuring to me especially having gone from 400 lbs to 180, but the pain is unbearable. What to do...I hope the gastric bypass

holds on, besides I hope my 1 meal a day cut into 2 will help.

Thanks

Connie :(
