If your brother is living with his roommate who is being treated with suboxone then I would imagine he would be the only one taking it. You need not worry about your brother taking the suboxone to get high. You simply do not get high from suboxone. I have heard many say they do get high but I think that it is all mental. However, if your brother has no prior opiate use then taking a suboxone would give him some kind of feeling I would imagine due to suboxone is a partial opiate antagonist. This means that it has two ingredients and 8 mg of the medicine is Bubinenorphine which is an opiate. This is a VERY MILD OPIATE. The rest of the medication consists of Naloxone which plays the role of the opiate antagonist. In short, the naloxone is very strong and acts as a blocker to all opiates (pain killers) so that if a person happened to take even a 3 Oxy Contin 80's they wouldn't feel any of the Oxy Contin's effects. However, the person would probably have to be hospitalized due to serious withdrawal. If you take any opiates along with suboxone you A) Can not feel the effects B) more than likely will go in instant withdrawal due to the nature of the the ingredient Naloxone in the medication.
If anyone would feel anything from suboxone it would be from the VERY MILD opiate bubenorphine. I would imagine you would have to be a person that doesn't have a past with opiates or has never even taken them in any way.
Also, Suboxone doesn't have any effect on your weight. In earlier posts the weight gain was in regards to methadone. The reason people were gettting smaller after taking suboxone in the earlier posts was because they had quit taking methadone. What they don't realize is that if you EVER actually stop taking methadone once you start then you will lose most of your weight whether you take suboxone weeks later or not. Methadone completely slows your metobolism down and therefore you gain a lot weight and in most cases you can't lose the weight. Methadone is the all evil of all opiates. It damages everything from A to Z on the inside and the outside of your body.
If you're worried about your brother using then maybe these few signs can help you:
-loss/gain weight
-pupil dialiation
-itching (face, especially the nose, whole body)
-scabs all over body
-mood changes (ex. someone gets very hyper and talks a lot about nothing- almost like a manic depressant would act- and then that person --wakes up the next morning and act worn out and so on.) MOOD CHANGES...I COULD GO ON AND ON...
-criminal activity
-money that is gone and not accounted for
-broke
-in debt
-no apetite
-scabbing around the nose
-signs of using a needle ( bruises inside the elbow, toes)
-showing signs of depression
-problems at work or school
-not working or going to school
There are many more signs and you can find them all over the internet.
I hope this helped and I really hope your brother is just getting skinnier due to a natural reason!
The signs I provided you with that I could think pertain to most drug use but I was keeping in mind looking for signs of someone using opiates or speed.
It sounds like as of now your just seeing him being skinny (skin & bones). You wrote that he had a roommate so I am throwing this idea at you because it happens so often! Since he has a roommate then I assume he is in college. This may not be true; however, consider the drug adderall for ADHD. Adderall is a popular pill that college students use to keep them UP ALL NIGHT to study or so on. Statistically, college students are singled out being the group who abuses the substance adderall more than any other group. Students can sell it for more than a few dollars as well. They sell it to anyone- only college studenst don't abuse it. Anyone can an do abuse it! People who can get their hands on it usually end up taking it for the fake energy and the slight euphoria it feeds your brain and body! The medication almost seems like it won't allow you to have an appetite. I thought I would give you that little bit of information. I just personally know so many people in my life and or around my life that have actually had been addicted to the medicine. I certainly hope this is not the case either but it came to my mind! If you think this then you could just simply ask your brother because most people think it isn't a "big or bad drug" and will tell you. The truth is that it has methamphetamine and three other ampthetamine salts in it. In other words adderall is the cleanest speed you can take.
I believe you said you knew about drugs some and now I hope you know a little more about them. I hope this can help anyone and everyone who reads this.
So, I'm sending this a month later and I hope it helps. If I were you I wouldn't worry as much if he was in fact taking suboxone but that he MAY be taking OPIATES OR SPEED which is much worse.
Good Luck to you!
To everyone: If you are currently abusing any opiates stop now and call a subsoxone location. Your life will be so much better and you won't have ALL THE PROBLEMS you HAVE right now or YOU WILL HAVE!!! If you are choosing between methadone treatment or suboxone treatment then as you have read- GET OFF OF METHADONE!!
PEACE AND BE WELL.
i've been on methadone for 7 yrs now at 170 mg. i've had very good results on it. i've also gained about 30 # which for me was a blessing in disguise as I've always been so skinny. I'm planning on moving in about 3 months and its very hard to find meth clinics the further upstate ny you go. For this reason among others, i'm considering switching to cyboxen. I'm concerned that I'll lose the weight I gained though. I finally look really healthy at this weight and dont want to go back to being skinny. Can anyone tell me if cyboxen causes weight gain? thank you.
I have been on Suboxone now for about 8 months. Prior to even being addicted to oxy I weighed normally 130 pounds.
I decided to get off the oxy and enter a methadone program where they introduced me to suboxone which i had never heard of. I began loosing weight consistantly and my appetite has completely dissapereared.
I'm not over exadurating. Its to the point where my entire family is worried sick about me. People are constantly telling me how skinny I am and how bad it looks. I apparently look very sick. Almost like I'm dying of aids.
I finally went to the doctors to get blood work done and thinking maybe my iron was low, or something was wrong with my thyroid, the doctor told me I was completely healthy and everything was fine. This was today.
I don't understand how I am not putting on weight considering people at my clinic have expressed to me that they have never been as heavy weight as they are now being on the program. My friends who used oxy seem to put on weight and have an appetite.
I find I get hungry and I'll order a big meal thinking I'll finish it or make a big meal and think I'll eat it all only to take a few bites and feel full. Sometimes I find myself trying to force my food down. I have trouble swallowing it and I gag sometimes. Food does not appeal to me after a couple bites of it.
After reading alot on the internet I really believe it could be the suboxone. My doctor believes its anxiety and stress from over the last year. Being on oxy I didn't always eat and I was always throwing up so I may have shrunken my stomach.
My doctor doesn't seem to talk much about the suboxone and kind of shrugs it off. Im not sure family doctors are of aware of it as the clinics are.
Is there a way to get off suboxone? Ive honestly tried cold turkey and everyone knows thats hell.
Thanks.
Hope this helps.
