I have had this sensation for the past month or more. I told my husband it feels like a baby kicking slightly right under my ribs on the right side--exactly the same spot every time. It's almost constant now--absolutely no pain, but a weird fluttering feeling. I am 48, very healthy, and have never had surgery or gall bladder problems. Not sure what it is, but I'm a little relieved I'm not the only one that's experiencing it. I feel strange going to the doctor about it. Any ideas what might be causing it?

After 2 weeks of eating a ton of fruits and vegetables, I'm happy to report that my symptoms have finally disappeared again. I heartily recommend what the above poster said about getting more fibre. Natural fibre, like good foods, is even better.

I'm feeling so much better and no more frightening kicky feeling.

I'm 45 and female, had a hysterectomy 10 years ago so definitely not pregnant. I'm also quite thin. Last routine bloodwork was all normal, even showed low cholesterol so my doctor was very pleased about that. I'm not on any medications at all and have no chronic health issues. I also eat well, very few if any packaged junk foods and plenty of vegetables and lean meats though admittedly I have a weakness for fresh-baked cobblers (especially blackberry or peach, Southern gal that I am) and baked apples with oatmeal topping. I also love guacamole (avocados are good potassium and a source of "good" cholesterol, not much of the "bad kind"). I too had the baby-kicking sensation and I could see and feel a "lump" under the ribcage just left of center. I also had a small bit of discomfort, more like pressure than actual pain, and no nausea.

I also had a lot of gut noise (borborygmus; growling) which tells me that there were peristaltic movements going on. I was fasting from waking time to sundown as part of Lent observations, and hadn't eaten since my late dinner the previous evening; thus, I was pretty hungry at the time. The sensation and lump lasted for about 2 hours. I laid down for a short nap as I usually do in the afternoon, and when I got up, I had a big episode of gas/ flatulence (one big loud "ripper"). No more lump after that, no more kicks, nothing.

I wonder if the sensation and even lumps (especially in those of us who are thinner than average, who can see and feel such things more readily than a meatier person can) is caused by a large volume of swallowed or liberated air that gets trapped, and then eventually it makes its way out in the form of a belch or a "toot" (flatulence). Trapped air can cause the intestines to become distended, and a particularly large bubble might be enough to puff things up to the point of causing a palpable or visible "lump" in someone who isn't very fleshy. The normal peristaltic movements on the gas bubble might also explain the kicking feeling, if the bubble is temporarily stuck in one location. Think about gently pushing a water balloon with your hand... not hard enough to make the balloon roll away, but enough to make it jiggle-- or take a partially inflated balloon in your hand and give it a squeeze, then loosen the grip and see what happens. The air in the balloon will move to an area away from your hand, then snap back as soon as you relax your grip. Your squeezing hand represents a peristaltic wave; the balloon is a trapped air bubble.

Just a theory!

I'm just going to watch this for a bit and see if I detect a pattern.

I have this too! It freaked me out, sometimes it feels like a warm sensation like maybe my muscle is sore... But it happens a lot in the same space and today I noticed blood on my toilet paper after I pooped, though I'm not sure if it was from a fissure or what. The web is freaking me out because I'm reading about intestinal blockage or failed blood delivery to the intestines or blood clots and I don't know if that's me being dramatic or not... Has anyone gotten anything diagnosed?

I have also had this same feeling, mostly under left rib, for the past two months or so. It's freaked me out! I know I'm not pregnant, but the thought still crosses my mind. Plus, I always wonder if it's the aortic thing... I guess I will ask my doc soon, I don't want to be a hypocondriac, but it's creepy! It feels just like when you first feel a baby kick! I'm so relieved to know I'm not the only one!

I am 27, male, lot of sugar in diet but eat healthy other wise. I have been on meds since I was fourteen for narcolepsy. I am putting on a little weight every year. I feel the fluttering in upper stomach. I also noticed if I down a bottle of water I can almost feel something in the same spot as the fluttering as if there is some kind of growth or bend in my stomach. Someone said something about liver exhaustion, that could have me worried. I think it could have something to do with build up in the intestines. does anyone have an idea which road i should had down when talking to my doctor?

Umm....Im a 14 year old male. Same symptoms, no anxiety no meds. Just curious if i need to go to a docctor or not. It goes from a fluttering sensation to somewhat of a beating. I am really skinny, but the beating is way out of tandum with my heart and its even sometimes goes into a mad gurgling like someone is boiling my spleen. Should I go to the doctor?

This may not be the case for everyone, but for some, it may simply be a muscular thing related to the back. I recently got more and more frequent weird feelings in and around the intestines then realised it was probably due to the fact id been sitting on computer alot latley. Ive started doing some stretches and back massages and the feelings seem to be going away. Often the simplest explination is the correct one. Just get off the computer and excercise more.:-D ...otherwise see a doc.

I am having this sensation for weeks now and I am so fed up. I went to a walk in clinic and demanded to have an ultrasound done on my abdomen and the doctor suggested to have a pelvic exam too. So I am going on Monday to get my ultrasound done. I hope somebody can shed light on this.
