Hello, I have a question regarding my friend’s health. He is 5 years old and it looks like he has some eye condition called cycloplegia. He has eye sight problems and I am really worried for him. He has started with some therapy and I hope he will be all right. What is this condition anyway? Is it that serious?
That condition is actually a paralysis of ciliary muscles in the eye and that lead to damaged, or a complete loss of accommodation. These muscles are controlling the lens and without them, lenses cannot change their form. There are several drugs that might help with this problem, including homatropine, scopolamine, atropine… These meds are sometimes also used for examination of retina.
