OK guys, please don't laugh at this what I am going to confess you because I think that this is some kind of disorder and when I say disorder - I mean SERIOUS disorder.

Well, when I was a kid I was always eating ice because my mom didn't want to buy me an ice cream. She told me that I can get sick because of it and I was mad because all my friends were eating ice cream. So I was the only one who was eating ice. Well, the problem is because even today I have this ugly habit to eat ice. Everyday, three or four times a day. I am confused because I don't know can this affect my health. What is wrong with me?

What effect does eating ice have on the body?

Let me know.

Sincerely yours.

Hey.

Honestly, I was watching some shows where people had this disorder as well. They were eating ice and they just couldn’t stop eating it.

Well, eating ice can't be that good for you. This is one really bad habit. It is a disorder because ice is not a food. I believe that there is some medical term for your condition, so you really need to consult your doctor. Have you did this?

For example, you can damage your teeth. Also, it means that you don’t have enough nutrients that you need. Eating ice can cause nausea. This also can mean that you are having some social problems.

There are so many bad things about eating ice.

It can mean a few things. Since you've started eating ice as a kid, maybe you just got an addiction, you know, like an addiction towards anything else. It is either that or some sort of a social problem if you ask me, but if I had to choose one out of these two, I think that it is only your habit.

You are eating ice, something very, very cold. It can hurt your teeth and mouth pretty bad, and it can cause you some headaches. Your teeth are probably the things that are mostly in danger here, other than that, it's not such a dangerous habit.

There is a name for your condition, pagophagia is the desire to eat ice all the time. Those who do this are often not aware that they have an issue, as they do not think that this is something to be worried about. So, is eating ice bad for you? It could be, and you should consult your physician to know if this has become an issue or not.

You are doing severe damage to your teeth when eating ice, and this damage is permanent. Those who are addicted to chewing ice will find that their bodies can suffer nutritional problems, and eating ice really can have some social effects on the people who do it.

I have a friend who eats ice. I've never seen anyone else do it but he has this tendency to do it when he is nervous, or around a lot of people. Crowds make him nervous. I never thought that it can be dangerous, to be honest. I thought that it is just his way of fighting his nervousness. I mean, I guessed that it can't be good for his teeth, I know that too cold or too hot food isn't good for teeth, but I didn't think there's more to that than just that. I'm going to show him this topic here.

Hello. Thank you for your replies. Maybe I have an addiction, I don't know. I was reading on the internet, trying to find so many ways to stop this bad habit, but I can't. And the biggest problem of all is that I really don't want to go to visit my doctor, because my husband doesn't know that I am having this kind of problem. It is a shame for me! Yes, when you are now mentioned it, when I went to see my dentist he told me that I have really damaged teeth and that my gums are in bad condition. I couldn't tell him that I am eating ice. Did I made a mistake? Should I consult him anyway? Thank you so much.

Good day there guys.

IceEating, look - you really have serious disorder and bad habit. This is also and addiction. You need to find the way to get rid of it and you need to talk to someone who is an expert. You can see that you damaged your lips, gums and teeth just because you are ashamed to tell the true. That is bad. It can seriously affect your body, not just your teeth and gums, but you can create some nutritional problems or something like that. I am scared that your teeth are completely damaged...

You need to seek for help.

Well, you should definitely talk to your dentist and tell him why your teeth are so damaged, and you gums as well. In your case, this is an addiction. But generally chewing and eating ice is not something new. And I am sure that almost anyone know someone who eats ice. I do, I know three of them.

It is not definitely the worst habit that you can get, but in your case it is because you are eating ice since you were a kid. So obviously – you are having problem  for which you need medical help.

Good luck darling!

Hey. So I went to see my dentist today again. He told me that my teeth are totally destroyed and that he doesn't know what to do with them. Probably I will have to change it completely. He asked me why I have never told anyone who is an expert about my problem. I don't know, I think that this is a shame, a huge shame. I also have a friend who is eating cotton but he was not ashamed to tell that he had problem and he told it to the experts as well. But I don't know why I can't tell anyone. I can see that this can be a huge problem for me....

Look, you really don't have to be ashamed. Everyone have some problems and you are not the only one. OK, you are eating ice and this is a classical disorder, but you can't just let it go. Ask a doctor what to do  because you are not the only one with the problem, trust me.

Chewing ice is really bad for you, that is true. Here is what you need to know. If you are a compulsive ice eater, it is very likely that you have some iron deficiency anemia and it is vitally important for you to check with your doctor to see whether you might need treatment for it or not, but in your case - I believe that you will need to have the treatment since you are eating an ice for a long time.
