Hello, my son is 7 years old and just as all other kids, he is very energetic and dynamic. We have thought that school will tire him a bit, but it looks like he has even more energy now. So we have decided that he should try training some sport or perhaps even martial arts. And he is thrilled with the idea of practicing karate or something similar. So, what illnesses can regular martial arts practice prevent?

Any kind of sport, including martial arts, is excellent for health. It is especially smart to enlist your kid for practicing as early as possible. In that way, he will develop the habit of constantly training something. No matter what that is. As for conditions, regular exercises will prevent heart problems, improve breathing, prevent bone and joint issues and what is also important his self esteem will be high. And that is more than enough...

In addition to your son's martial arts training, you may want to encourage him to live a healthy lifestyle. You can do this by setting a good example as a parent in practices such as no smoking, not drinking excessively, eating healthy foods, and no drugs. Martial artists can get sick just like everybody else. I know of a black belt who had back problems when he was in his forties. There have been reported cases of martial artists who suffered a heart attack during practice. No amounts of martial arts training will clean your arteries of cholesterol buildup if you don't watch what you eat.

Hi Sally, how do you mean discipline?
You can get very strong from kickboxing and you stay fit. The thing about kickboxing is that you work your hole body and not just hands or legs.
I'm interested on how did he improve his discipline. Is it just because he has some responsibility or something else?
