I'm looking and looking for any kind of encouraging sign that its nothing.
How were the doctors axle to determine it was nothing serious?
Years ago I kept a brown vertical line in the center of my thumbnail. I consulted with a healthy food/natural food specialist who looked it up and indicated I was deficient in enzymes. I bought some enzyme tablets and within a couple weeks the streak was gone. FYI, any kind of carbonated beverage (even water) destroys your body's enzymes.
Hope this helps!

I started off with a black line in my right hand thumb 5 years ago and got it tested, the surgeon removed the whole nail and seemed confused at how the line was growing through my nail instead of being on the nail bed as they expected. the biopsy came back negative for malignant melanoma and as the nail grew back so did the black vertical line. about a year later, my toe on the right foot was bleeding from walking to work daily with tight shoes, on looking thoroughly at my toe I discovered it too had a black line running through it and again it was tested and came back negative. recently (about 5 months ago) I noticed a line on my pinky on the right hand has a black line in it also, this time it feels uncomfortable so I mentioned it to the doctor and he asked me if I wanted to do a biopsy on that one also, I declined but now I think I might change my mind. I have one on the pinky on my left hand now, I only discovered that a few days ago (its a lot more faint than the others) I have psoriasis in my elbows and other places on my body and I am under a lot of stress, mainly due to lack of sleep caused by breathing problems. I think I need to get a full check up, something is going on with me that they are not noticing, surely. the strange thing is, the doctors have never told me what it is causing the black lines, they just say its not cancer and leave it at that. I would advise that anyone who has them should get themselves checked out asap. apparently Bob Marley died from cancer and it was from a black line in his toe.
I suddenly had a black line growing up through my nail, by chance i felt my breast and found a lump and have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Nails always tell us if there is something wrong with us, please dont ignore your nails.
what happened? Please reply
I SLAMMED MY FINGER IN MY CAR DOOR A YEAR AGO. WHEN MY NAIL AND NAIL BED GREW BACK AND HEALED. THATS WHEN THE BLACK LINE CAME. WHAT MADE ME NOTICE IT WAS A CO-WORKER SAID TO ME WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT DARK LINE THROUGH YOUR RIGHT THUMB NAIL BECAUSE I HAVE THE SAME THING THROUGH MY LEFT THUMB NAIL. SO I TOLD MY CO-WORKER THAT I WOULD GOOGLE WHAT IT MEAN. AND I GOT ALL KINDS OF THINGS LIKE CANCER, TRAUMA TO THE NAIL, HEART DISEASE AND A FEW OTHER THINGS. WHATS A SURE WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT IT REALLY MEAN?
I have the same issue about that line except that it's on my left thumb. hahaha I'm fed up also with that question.
I have a black line going up and down my left index finger and now have faint black lines lightly appearing on both my left and right thumb. They are very visible if you put a light to my thumbs. The index finger you can clearly see. Pulmonary disease?
